I know some cats have them removed for medical reasons - ie if they are prone to blockages. Obviously you can only check so much without it being weird  :evillaugh: - we never did see any protrusion of any kind  :evillaugh:
DO NOT BREED OR BUY WHILE SHELTER ANIMALS DIE

I believe I am not interested to know whether Vivisection produces results that are profitable to the human race or doesn't. To know that the results are profitable to the race would not remove my hostility to it.  Mark Twain

Netuering removes the testes of the scrotum not the 'pink lipstick'  ;)

I am very well aware of that but thanks   ;)

However, there was never any sign of any  :P with Clapton  :evillaugh:

Aaah, but you said "we are certain that Clapton didn't have one". That will be where the confusion has come about  ;) :evillaugh:

On a similar note as an innocent 10 year old my childhood cat exposed his pink lipstick while having a wash down below, I screamed out to my Mum that Benji was bleeding from his bottom  :evillaugh:

Although he is black everywhere else, the backs of his back legs are sort of tabby - I have never seen that before. You can see it in the bottom pic of the 2nd lot - it looks like the light in the photo but it is colouring.  The vet classed him as a "Fluffy Moggy"  :evillaugh:

Together with fluffy tail, the differently coloured long fur underneath is reason I think Groucho looks so much like him.  He is jet black on top but various shades of dark and light brown underneath.  If and when he learns to display his tummy, I'll take a pic.  It's glorious though  :Luv2:

I can't believe I'm typing this but Billy Whiz sometimes shows his PL when he's happy   :-[

Mark - he is gorgeous and has got himself well and truly settled at your home :Luv2: :Luv2:

One thing I need to find out is when he was neutered. He rolled onto his back to show me his belly, then washed his bottom and the pink lipstick came out  :scared: - we are certain that clapton didn't have one  :-:

Also, before that, I was sure I smelt Tom when I picked him up from the vet  :shify:

My Sam is 15 and gives his pink lipstick a wash especially if he has a dirty bottom - he was neutered at 6 months  :shify:

Mark, Smudge's PL used to come out when I tickled his belly for too long  ;) and he was done before I got him.

PS - The latest thing is he snuggled in the gap between my arm and body and went to sleep using my arm as a prop  :evillaugh:

Then he moved around a bit and went to sleep again with his front legs spread along my arms

Crappy image from my crappy phone.

 You are so never giving Lazarus up (who is hunky and whose name suits him :Luv2: ). Wonder how long it will take him to charm Alice ...

The diarrhoea story might be true, when I trained in hospital pharmacy the geriatrics wards had to deal with a lot of older folks with constipation presenting as (and in some cases having been treated as) diarrhoea as it was basically leaking around the sides of the blockage.  I don't recall this being described as megacolon, but of course I wasn't seeing the patients' notes just their prescriptions and it was twenty years ago.

He looks lovely Mark  :Luv2:

Maybe when he's more relaxed you could trim the long hair around his back legs to help solve the messy bum situation

Good idea but I will see how he goes poo-wise first.

Is his sore bot from internal exam?   :(  Poor boy.

I think it must be  :(

Anyway, I sent OH a photo and this is the reply.

'Lazarus is lovely - I think we need to keep him'  :shify:

He has a funny little quirk. I was lying on the bed and called him. He hopped up and was head butting me. Each time I stroked his head, he stroked my arm in return  :Luv2:

He follows me around like a lost lamb.

And btw - I gave him a pouch of Felix senior and he ate the whole lot!  ;D

Sharon said it is probably as much as he had eaten in the previous week put together.

I got a bit confused at the vets. They prescribed Peridale but I also picked up another fibre + probiotic supplement.

He has 2.5mg Felimazole twice a day.

Just a quick one as the boy is waiting for me  :evillaugh:

He hasn't stopped purring and head-butting since he got here  :Luv2:

He goes to the bottom of the attic stairs. As soon as I call him, he comes running.

A few pics but I am going back up to settle him in.

It is my old, slow camera and he won't keep still - better pics to follow

I have a disabled kitten cat with bowel problems due to her mobility problems, she is on daily lactulose but i also give her tablets called Cistapride. They are very difficult to obtain and quite expensive but work by increasing muscle contractions in the bowel. Another option is a total colectomy but i think this is rather a drastic measure and probably not recommended. I have tried pumpkin, bark elm, asparagus and the granules added to food prescribed by the Vet and none of them worked for my cat. I would be very interested to hear of any other remedies and if you have any success with Miralax.
Good Luck with Lazarus.

Thanks  - I will obviously try what the vet recommends initially and try other things if no effect. I have been googling and have seen that some people use Miralax in place of lactulose as it is odourless and tasteless - has to be ordered from America though.

Pedro indeed is mega colon, lactulose was used but then vet changed him to granules to add to food, sorry having memory problems at minute due to medication, but will look up name for you when I get a minute. The secret is to make sure bowels are opened daily to avoid colon filling in wrong place.
