A lot of vets are stringent about weight also so even if she was 6 months old and not 2.5 kilos they may still refuse to spay.  I have been lucky as there is a vet near us that will spay/neuter at 2 kilos even if they are only around 5 months old.  Basically it is down to the vet at what age and weight they will neuter a cat/kitten.  Maybe best asking your vet and getting her weight checked to see if she falls into when they would at least do her.  CP will do as soon as vets will allow and will also give vouchers if the cat is booked in for neutering.

Hope this helps Gill as my youngest two Miffy was 5 1/2 months old and Domino was 5 months old when they were done, Domino was at the 2 kilo weight which is the bottom end of what any vet will contemplate neutering.

You definitely don't have to wait for a season to spay, otherwise you will have to deal with the most horrendous racket and escape attempts that would rival James Bond. If you want Rosie to go to a new home spayed you might be best trying to find a vet that will do the op earlier than six months, as at present she is a cute kitten ...  ;)

Gill in the past we have vaccinated, ID CHipped, speyed/neutered and programme injectioned in the past with no ill effect and our offer is still open we would need a transport run put together but she will be welcome here to join the trio of chaos I already have there's always room for one more here at the Clan and Daddy goes to Hull on Sunday for 2 weeks so he won't notice another one

Pussy is absolutely gorgeous, I would love to catnap her ;D Got to be practical though :innocent:

Vaccinations are usually done at 10 and 12 weeks IIRC, it's a while since I did it for a kitten! Spaying is usually at 6 months, some vets will do a little earlier if kitty is big enough, some stick stringently to 6 months regardless.

I think you can ring CP head office for a voucher or your local branch but I'm not 100% about that, someone from CP will advise correctly.

This little girl certainly fell on her paws coming to you didn't she :Luv2:

Advice please concerning neutering for Pussy.

She is 4 months old and no shaved area from spaying and that must mean she is not spayed I think.............right??

So what age do you get kittens spayed and is it before they come into season?

How can I get a voucher from CP?

I know chipping is often done when they are spayed but what about first vaccination?

I really want Pussy to be spayed before going to a new home but she is on offer now, if anyone thinks they would love to have this very cute little tabby.

She is in SW Wales but am willing to bring her into England as far as I can.

I dont know how she will be with other cats and think she will need an safe inside/outdoor home.

She has just got freaked by a little girl staring at her from outside, while Pussy was looking thro the window............one of the relatives of the nasty child next door.

Pussy is now suckling like crazy and just wants to cuddle while being stroked and purring like a steam train  ;D

However she is doing very well  and can be like a real kitten and thats getting worying as am almost scared to come in here in the morning wondering what she may have done overnight.

Welcome to my world!

I hope you can find her a nice, forever home.   I still am puzzled as to where she's come from.  She has quite striking looks and seems well cared for.

She desperately needs a forever home and would love her to go to someone on Purrs who I know and trust.

She is loving and a purrpot and soooooooooooooo sweet, she is no trouble at all but its now becoming a real problem with my other cats, especially Misa who is scared of her  :shify: :shify: and Franta and Ducha who feel they cant come down for cuddles cos the door is pulled too.

How old was Groucho when he came to you Rosella,

The vet aged him at 8 weeks Gill.  As his eyes were still blue around the edges, I think certainly no older than 10 weeks.  Have to say he strikes me as very mature in temperament which I assume is a result of his time alone as a young un.  He was very fiesty with the others when he arrived but, as OH commented this evening, he is most definitely part of the family now.

I am sure it's not absolutely necessary to feed kitten food but am sure I too would ignore the dry kibble and hold out for the

Solitaire tuna flakes and shrimp ...........

Sounds like you were spot on with age thing Gill in looking at Callie and Monty and comparing :) We have never had any problems with them eating the Purina kitten biscuits and Whiskas kitten food though they prefer the gravy to the jelly ones. I did mix in some adult Purina I had left in to the kitten once and they left all the big biscuits though so maybe they could not manage the big lumps?
She will eat it I think if you only offer it.
The rescue said to keep them on kitten food until after they are neutered. They need wormed once a month till 6 months(1/2 a Milbemax and flea'd with frontline every 6 weeks though I haven't done this as I see no point when there is no evidence of fleas on them or any other animals in the house and I groom them daily) After 6 months they said every 3 months for worming. They have just had their first leukaemia jabs but the other jabs were completed at 12 weeks. The next is due Jan 4th and they are booked in for neutering on 19th Jan at nearly 6 months as the vet says they are well grown and Callie could come in to season. I will definitely go on to adult after the neutering though so I think she will be fine on this.
I hope you get things sorted out soon and find a solution that is right for Pussy and for you. I also hope you feel better soon. This time of year is very stressful and knocks us all for six I think.
Callie and Monty do still have 'furry fits' when something startles them and jam themselves somewhere so I think Pussy just got a wee fright and it takes them a while to settle again. Normally we just ignore then initiate a game (they can't resist a knitting needle boggle). Does Pussy play? If she does she likely had a home once upon a time. I would teach her play and this will bond her closer.
Get better soon xxxx

I have been given two bags of the rc kitten kibble so think I will pass on kitten wet but get the flavours of adult she seems to prefer, which is the poultry selection rather than the fish and get some more cat milk.

She doesnt even understand a box......sigh. She has been sitting on the window sill looking out.

She is having a good look around the room and didnt moan when Franta came in but looked at him looking at her and just turned her back on him LOL.

He is playing it soooooooooo cool cos I think he knows she is a girl cat and he loves girl cats but Sasa hates him LOL

I have had a cat carrier by the radiator for last two days but like boxes she shows no interest.

I havent given her any treats cos want to get her food sorted and she is not eating so much now.

I just put up a little artifical tree with lights built in and she noticed when it came on but showed no interst in it..............maybe its all just overload for her at the moment so she just potters and sleeps and eats.

She has had a hard day ,40 miles in a car, seeing the vet, other cats around my house and she is so little even compared to Franta.

Think we will just plod on one day at a time and see what happens.

Thank you all for giving advice based on your experiences cos it really helps  ;D

I took some more pics last night so will post up if they have come out after I get back from Tescos.................hope all the cars have gone  :scared:

I'm with Liz. Adult food is fine for her. Kitten food is a relatively new concept anyway, once upon a time it was one food for all. Now there is kitten, junior, adult and senior

Agree, adult food will be fine, load of old marketing tosh these 'lifestages' foods!  :evillaugh:

It worries me that vets are pushing DRY food for kittens as young as this (and probably younger)  :(

I'm glad you managed to get little Rosie to the vets.  It sounds as though she's been poorly socialised and possibly living rough for a little while.  I hope things settle down a bit for you and that Ducha and Franta both get well so that you can have a (relatively) relaxing christmas!

Gill she should eat the kitten food as in wet food as it has smaller chunks than the adults and has the extra nutrients that little growing Rosie will need.  With some cats they just don't like biscuits and others try it on if they think they can get away with not eating them (I have had fosters that refused to eat biscuits until I put my foot down and told them if they were hungry they would eat them (these are cats that have been built up to what they should be and was not done until the vets were happy with the weight)).

I have fun everytime one of mine have to go in pet carriers although I have a couple around the house that they are allowed to sleep in to try and deminish the stress for both but does not work.

In all honesty Gill I think she has been dumped because she would be attacking the tree and the owners could not cope with it, surprising how many do go out the door at this time of year as people don't realise how much work they really are.

Oh beat this yesterday two kids came to see if I knew where they could get a kitten from in time for xmas, they just got told that I did not and the rescues would not be homing at this time of year until around the second week of January as that seems the blanket policy where I happen to live unless they actually know the person personally and they have had animals from them before.  Yes I am able if I wanted to add to my family at this time of year but they all know that if an animal comes to me it is for the animals life and I have fostered animals for over 20 years, but will not help people that just knock on my door asking if I know where they can get them from.

It may be Rosie is remaining on high to keep an eye on all the cats that have invaded her  ;) territory, whilst she gets the measure of them?

Kitten food is supposed to be higher in quality protein (animal) and saturated fat (calories) than the adult equivalent. However you can't fairly compare one brand of adult food to another brand of kitten food as each manufacturer will use a different amount of meat in their range. Royal Canin contains a high percentage of cereals, so won't be as high in quality protein as a good adult wet. Just to be clear, plant proteins are low quality and animal derivatives high quality for an obligate carnivore.

The kitten kibble likely will be higher in fat, tho whether it is higher in useable calories is a debatable point. Some felines poop out carbs too fast to extract much energy, and none have the metabolic make-up to make full use of the energy within. Kibbles tend to be made tasty not by being full of natural goodness but by spraying each biscuit with animal digest. This is why many cats find meat-flavoured cornflakes Go Cat and the like irresistible.  >:(

Glad she's healthy Gill but pity no chip, not that you really expected to find one did you?

As regards the food I would think she would find kitten food more appetising that adult rather than less.  It is more nutrient rich and has a higher calorific value which, as with human food, usually means its tastier.  :naughty:  Penny wouldn't eat the dry at first - she preferred to play football with it, but I got some Morrisons own brand which is a smaller sized chunk (and quite a pretty shape if I remember rightly  :) ) and she loved that. She had a tendency to lick the jelly off Felix kitten and leave the chunks so I put her on Whiskas kitten pate which she devoured for a while but tsoon tired of.  She then went back to Felix and, like most cats, had her favourite and less favourite flavours.

They gave me RC dry kitten food and she turned her nose up at it lol

I dont think she has fleas and forgot all about worming but yes Richard said she is healthy and had her in his hands which were round her tummy so think he would have said if he thought she needed worming.

Fraid my head not working so well and the traffic was horrible once off M4 and roads worse than round here and then got huffy person on reception when I asked if it would cost anything for Pussy to be scanned , sexed and aged. She said that I should have rung about Duch coming despite what the vet told me yesterday and yes it would likely cost for Pussy.............told her I wouldnt have her done then but Richard said no cost...............well he could after it cost me £40 for convenia jab and consultation for Ducha!

No I havent contacted CP  and not doing anything now till after Christmas, just want Franta fully fit, Ducha to recover and no other cat to catch it, and me to recover too......sigh

How old was Groucho when he came to you Rosella, Pussy has been eating adult food for two days now but it would be felix kitten food if I change.....she doesnt like the adult biscuits eiether, so maybe she doesnt like dry food or has found wet food tastier here!

Solitaire tuna flakes and shrimp slips down easily lol...............far too easily  :innocent:

Glad you got there and back in one piece Gill but what a shame Pussy isn't chipped or reported as lost. Re her eating kitten food if she is anything like Luna she will happily eat the kitten food but then pinch any remaining adult food which is left behind  :innocent: Like Groucho she has the RC kitten dry and she loves that.

Agree with what others have said, she certainly doesn't seem feral or semi feral. Hobbes still likes to jump onto the top of door frames at regular intervals just to prove he can and he can still be spooked by anything unusual - remember me losing him for 10 hours when Luna screeched and he got a fright . I have had him since he was 12 weeks old and he was in foster care before that so no idea where that comes from, I think he is basically just a wuss

It's good that she is a bit less growly with the others now, with Luna it was a bit of a defensive thing when she hissed at Hobbes to start with because he was so much bigger than her but once she realised he wasn't going to attack her she settled down fine. I know you'll be trying to find her a new home but at least it would make things a little easier for you in the meantime if she is less moany with your gang.

Sending big  to you all and hoping that Ducha and you feel better soon.
