Oh god I am in floods of tears,  WC called me with the good news and I had to log on.  Come on Baby girl,  keep going you can do it.

Angie,  you really are a saint,  it really doesnt sound like she would have made another day without emergency treatment.

Told my Mum as all my family have been getting Portia updates and she said she bets Ross the vet falls in love with Portia and keeps her  :Luv2:  (if he doesnt I am sure there will be a few offers of homes for the little soldier    ;))

Ross the vet just phoned with an update. (I was preparing myself for the worst!).

He said today was the first time Portia looked as though she might want to live.

He said she has been very patient through all the injections and he has had her home with him over the weekend. He will be taking her back to the surgery tomorrow for nurse cuddles (and a bum wash - I said its nice to have nurses to do your dirty work!).

Her diarrhea is getting better though she has still not been put on solid food.

He said the problem with these chronic infections is that if not treated quickly and properly there can be damage to the intestines and bowels and that these need time to heal. It is too early to be able to tell if there will be ongoing problems.

Today he is 'quietly confident' that she will get better. Still no indication of when she can leave.

If Portia does have FIP you must get your other baby checked for the Corona virus which mutates to FIP

We have one carrier but none of the others are affected - I tested 30 + cats after Gem and her kittens except Beijing died

Beijing is a carrier but she is well stable acording to the vets as she has no change to her routine and is a little poppet and the sloul survivor of the Doodles - her Partner in crime died from Cancer on Wednesday - baby Archie

You should also get rid of anything Portia used - bowls, beds etc as the virus can still be around

You cared deeply for this little soul and have done the right thing signing her over

I am sorry to say this but I am starting to feel like I as a cat lover who also wants the best for my poor baby portia, is starting to be judged as a person who is incapable of taking care of a kitten. As i have explained the situation before. It was the hardest decision I have had to make signing my baby over, But iI believe that it was the best decision for Portia as I know she will now get the care that she needs and deserves. Rosie has been checked out with injections and blood tests and given the all clear!!! >:(

People aren't judging you, you are acting on the vets advice, who have been proven a bit wrong and so now concerns are being raised for Rosie. Not in a point the finger at you way but to make sure all bases are covered and to minimise any more pain and distress to you all.

We all understand it has been a horrible period for you and you love the cats.

rosie has been in the vets when we took portia and she is fine  :)

you don't have to show symptoms Lisa - you can carry a disease , not be affected by it and still be contagious. Besides some viruses can survive for months just in the environment. Anyway, lets hope its nothing like that, though I am glad that ross is being cautious for the sake of the other foster cats we have (apart from being too poorly to leave anyway!)

lol, we cross posted! modifying to say not all illness can be prevented by vaccines and blood tests do not show up viruses. and we are not getting at you.

I must admit I was worried about FIP - which would certainly mean a considerable break before bringing in another cat

That worried me too - can a cat be a carrier and not exhibit any of the symptoms the obviously ill cat does? Any rescue peeps should know I would think.

Sending more vibes to Little Portia.
