As Shirley said...it wasn't exactly easy trying to measure up Mikey for his new wheels :car:

The first attempt was a nightmare! As expected he wouldn't sit still and spent most of the time trying to play with the tape measure! :tired:

The 2nd attempt...which we video'd for you was much better because he was distracted by his food....but its very difficult to get accurate measurements of a cat in standing position when the said cat can't stand!lol....

So, although we're posting it for you to see....I will double check all the measurements when he is in standing position in his harness just to make sure we get them as accurate as we can (unfortunately all my cats were out and about so we couldn't take Mikey into the garden to do it properly at the time) but here's the video link (Apologises Shirley for the music!LOL):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hJ0_tz0V9KU

As Shirley says....Mikey calls for me when I leave the pen bless him....he's always shouting for attention though....as soon as he hears the back door open he's screaming 'hey mum...I'm HEEEEEERRRRRRRREEEEEEE......FOOOOOOOODDDDDD!!!!!'   :hi: LOL.....I tell you...there's nothing wrong with his lungs!!

Just got back from Heather's-had a lovely time with the gorgeous Mikey (and Arthur!)-she tried to measure him up for his 'wheels' while i videoed it!    The 2nd attempt went better cos she gave him some food to concentrate on!    He certainly knows her-as soon as she went out of the pen, he was crying after her  :Luv2: :Luv2: (She says he's always crying, but i don't believe that-he loves his mom, lol!)
The only problem is, i've left my camera there!!!!!  (Las t time i forgot to take it with me!!!) so now i'm going back to pick it up and will post pics later! I have got a brain like a sieve!!!!   :-[

Hi all.....

As Gill said, just coming back on to say another big thank you to all of you who have donated today...not sure what the total is at the moment but I know the response and generosity of you all has been amazing and to update on my ideas for any excess funds raised for Mikey....

I have been having a think about how to put to good use any extra funds that are raised over and above his 'wheels' and I have several things that I would like to do for him if money (and the OH! lol) allows. My ideal would be to build a nice run onto the front of his pen....this is where there is a slight problem with the OH as I was only allowed to convert the summerhouse into a pen if I agreed to 'no run' as he wanted it to remain looking like a nice summerhouse and not another cat pen. He does rather feel that my cat obsession has taken over in our house and therefore I have to tread carefully on certain issues!lol However....I shall be working on him over the next few weeks to see if I can pursuade him to change his mind. Whilst Mikey is with me I would love to be able to have that outdoor run and fix a ramp to his pen so he could wheel in and out to his hearts content...but I obviously have others to consider but if I was given the green light then that would definately be the first thing I would want to do for him.

Failing that there are also other treatments I wanted to pursue....funnily enough Angie, Accupuncture was one of them, but I'm yet to locate an animal specialist in this area (but in fairness I haven't looked very hard yet). I have also got a further MRT treatment booked for the 7th May as I did feel that these were doing him some good....and I am also very interested in him having a Reiki treatment to see how he responds.....so there are several other things that any money raised for Mikey could be spent on to try and do the best by him. I think I would prefer to use the money on things like these in preference to puppy pads because I have been used to buying them anyway and they're now kind of part and parcel of my budget...where as these treatments would be over and above...but could be beneficial to him. I would rather use any donations on the things I probably couldn't afford to keep doing for him myself than on the things I probably could...does that make sense?

As Gill said the money raised could be held by either purrs or my local branch and I can just put receipts back to whoever as and when so that everyone on here knows exactly how their money has been spent to help Mikey....and of course I would update regularly on the forums.....

Angie - I did speak to the vet about learning to express his bladder but she was reluctant that I start doing it. Apparently it should only really be done if the cat can't pass urine on their own...as apparently putting regular pressure on the bladder can cause a problem with the kidneys.....so she recommended I just leave him as he is at the moment. Whilst expressing would be more manageable for me and keep him cleaner I don't want to do that at the risk of his health...so for the time being we're continuing as normal.....

Hello Purrs People,

Another Mikey fan from Cat Chat here.
I've followed Mikey's story since Heather first posted about him on CC. We are all crazy about him - he's so gorgeous and brave.
Thank you so much Gill for setting up this fund.  :thanks:
Donating was straightforward and easy. It's lovely to know that Heather and Mikey are getting the help they need and deserve.
Go Mikey - our little Boy Racer!!

Heather, have you looked into bladder expressing?

I wonder if a course of acupunture would help any? not that it did with poor ebony but then we never knew really why she couldn't walk.

I just want to say thank you for all the fantastic donations and no money will be wasted.

Heather will be back on later to let you klnow roughly how the money will be used once the wheels are sorted. ;D

Any surplus money is likely to be held ready for use by either Purrs or RSPCA Stourbridge to be paid out against receipts for Mikeys costs. We want to make it all open and above board and Heather will do regular updates so everyone can see Mikeys progress and how ther little lad is geting on.............he is so brave and so handsome  ;D ;D

What a beautiful boy, and such a heartwarming story.  Heather, thank you for doing all you can for this lovely lad.

We were fortunate in that when we had Flynn, my own littley smiley boy, he was shot by an air rifle but as he was a plumptious little feller it lodged in flesh only and did no damage to his organs or nervous system.   Paddy has emptied his piggy bank and just made a donation.  The best of everything and lots of love being sent to Mikey.   :Luv:

My goodness I am COMPLETELY blown away by you all!!! :wooooo: :wooooo: :wooooo:

This is more exciting than watching 'Children in Need' when they keep doing the drum roll to see what the total is! LOL

Just to let you all know that I went and sat with Mikey tonight and told him that whilst we were sitting in the pen having a fuss that all over the UK people were pledging money to help him and he was a very lucky little boy. He just looked up at me and smiled. He does that you know....he puts his little head back and smiles at me!! I told him he was luckier than he will ever know and that before he knows it he will have a nice new set of shiny wheels to polish every night so to get used to having the evenings to himself for the next week or so because he's going to have a polishing cloth in his little paws soon and I will be doing an inspection every morning!lol. If people are digging deep into their pockets for him he's got to be prepared to look after them!lol

Zoe - gosh thats an incredibly generous offer but one that I could never accept ( and please don't think I'm being ungrateful I would just feel awful taking your money every month!) I was going to try and get the money together for Mikey's cart myself so now that isn't necessary it will make his day to day care a little easier anyway. Just the fact that you are prepared to do it blows me away - it really does!

Mark  - I never realised how expensive puppy pads were either!lol And I buy them from the wholesalers which is cheaper than a normal shop. They cost me £14 + vat for a box of 100....and I've been going through 100 a week to keep him clean. They really are the only things that work though. Where they are flat and thin I line the pen floor with them and I can secure them under the scratching posts etc to so they don't get dragged about when he moves. Terry nappies unfortunately would just runkle (have I just made that word up??lol)up as he moves around the pen...they would also stay wet and that would mean so would he unfortunately...and if they don't stay lining the floor and he wee's again he just drags himself through it. The Puppy pads are great because the wee soaks into them but the top layer stays pretty dry and hence so does he. I also use them under all the vetbed he has in his pen and in his bed. Thats also been great at keeping him clean and dry as the wet just soaks through, and then he had a puppy pad underneath (which is how I've been able to give him a proper bed to sleep in)...but I have to change all the vet bed on virtually a daily basis too so the washing machine is constantly on. You're right though...caring for a disabled cat isn't at all eco friendly!
That said I have used less puppy pads this week since we have improved things in the 'bowel' dept with the switch to raw food....and if the cart works and I can put a diaper on him some of the time, then that should reduce the useage even more....although diapers are even more expensive. I'll probably learn to fold a puppy pad like a terry nappy!lol I have got a lovely diaper and some disposable pads for him already actually as when I first had him I thought they would be the answer to all my prayers to keep him and the pen clean....but unfortunately because he drags himself along the diaper just got dragged straight off in the process.....so that wonderful idea lasted about 5 mins! Its been a complete learning curve caring for Mikey I can assure you!lol

Anyway...I'm bushed with all the excitement and off to bed now...

Thank you all again for everything

Suspect that puppy pads are the only option that will keep Mikey and his surrrounds dry and also Heather is 150% busy with all jobs she does so more time is not available LOL.

Think that they soak up liquids and keep away from body so it makes him more comfortable and limits flies and stuff.......no nappy rash  ;)

I didn't realise how expensive puppy pads were. I wondered if Terry nappies might be any good? - Tesco value (and I'm sure others) have hand towels that are much smaller than regular towels and only about 60p each. I suppose it depends on how people feel about them going in a washing machine. Just wondered if something like that would be practical - I know it would be a lot cheaper than £70 a month in puppy pads - also eco friendly and less rubbish to get rid of.

Hi
Nicola Jones from Catchat here (kitbits). I have just registered so I can donate to Mikey's fund. Please could you tell me where I put the 'For Mikey' bit when I click the donate button? I want to make sure you get the money for Mikey, but can't see where I do this? Thanks!

When you click on the link to paypal, you enter the amount and click "update amount", then log in and on the left, it says "add note" - when you click on that, it give you a box to type in.

Hope that makes sense  :evillaugh:

Hi
Nicola Jones from Catchat here (kitbits). I have just registered so I can donate to Mikey's fund. Please could you tell me where I put the 'For Mikey' bit when I click the donate button? I want to make sure you get the money for Mikey, but can't see where I do this? Thanks!
It's so wierd to see familiar faces on here!! I am a bit worried now as I already spend half my life keeping up with everone's stories on CC, now Im worried the other half of my life may be spent on here - lol !
 :thanks:
