Am going to have to take Mabel tonight instead of next week (it was next week in line with her boosters), her poos have got worse, so she has had to go back into isolation until hte vet sees her, I cant work out why though, I have been moving all their food to stop her getting at it, she is eating a lot of dry though, despite being told she barely touched it, and does wolf her food. I let her sit on the doorstep with me last night, and when I opened the door this morning she dashed out and tried to find the grass, so I picked some for her and put it in the bathroom with her, so she is seeming quite settled and happy here. She was having full bloods done next week anyway, so they will have to be brought forward a week.

Hi Desley,

Do you think Mabel may have thyroid problem,if she is always hungry and is very tin. The reason i am saying it cos my Jim was really tin and even though he used to eat twice as much as Boy, but he never did put on any weight.

Sending Mabel gentle .x

I hope her tum gets settled soon (or at least you can stop her eating anything she comes across!) and that the litter issues get sorted too.  Sounds like she's feeling settled though, bless her.  She really is gorgeous  :Luv:

Yep - shouldnt have expected anything different really!! not had her to the vets to be weighed yet and I refuse to have scales in the house, i have one app this week and one next, so need to see who I hvae booked in when and maybe juggle them. She is definitely underweight though, very thin back end.

Sounds like it may be a bit of a haul to get Mabel settled.  On the eating side, how much does she weigh?

Well, she has been here two weeks now - still having litter tray issues with her, she does hang over the edge, and prefers the uncovered one, so swapped it for the biggest, and she still got it over the edge. She is also hungry most of the time, so goes on the hunt for whatever food she can find, which is causing her to have an upset tum - i keep isolating her and moving the other food from her, and bought some whiskas pouches yesterday, given up trying to introduce better quality foods to her now. She is gettig slightly worrying with how much she can eat, I was told she didn't always finish the pouch a meal they gave her, and she barely touched dry, she isn't like that here, although she prefers the other flavours of JWB, but I am concerned about her tum and keep taking it away from her.

Well, we had a really good day yesterday, she wolfed her food as though she hadn't eaten for days, and when I was downstairs, I let her come down for some supervised timeout (after removing all the food!!), she even had a play with Da Bird. And then she let me put her on my knee and settled, which was good (not sure she can jump that well, haven't found her on anything above ground floor yet). She was odd overnight though, I gave her the new covered tray, rather than the one she had last week, in case it made a difference, she has wee'd in it, but poo'd on the floor - at least she was practically solid. I can see newspaper and doggy pads being my favourite things for a few months. I am starting to mix food now, so that hopefully it wont be a shock when she pinches someone else's.

It was one of the reasons she wasn't put up for rehoming, but am sure they told me it was weeing that she did out of the tray (in all honesty, I find poo easier to clean!!), but she was fine in the bathroom with a covered tray initially, and has been fine overnight with a covered tray, its just the run of the house that does it!! Might have one of each in the kitchen, and see what she thinks. She isn't impressed with being back in the bathroom, but it is more to restrict what she is eating to settle her tum than anything else.

Thanks T.
She is back in isolation at the moment, partly to see if we can stop the dodgy tum (she loves Zia's biscuits, so I might have to introduce those gradually), and partly to help her litter tray issues - she is fine in the bathroom, but when loose in the house, she will head towards the downstairs tray, and if it isn't good enough for her, will use my kitchen floor. I swapped it for a covered tray last night, and followed her, and despite 3 attempts at stopping her (calling her name, clapping and tapping her bum), she still used the floor in front of me - I had already blocked off the first place she used, so it wasn't cos she could smell it. I am hoping when her tum is fine it will all stop, if not, i will just have to put doggy pads there, or rearrange and have two trays.

New pics that i have just taken, she does look much better to say she has only been here a week, there was even a slight shine to her fur. Much more active, although her back legs aren't great.

Either deaf or ignorant!! not only does she ignore the others, she ignores me. She is venturing downstairs more and more now, just need to sort out her tum, as she is trying any food she can find in the house.

Great news, glad her cold is clearing....I bought some eucalyptus oil as suggested for Teddie and her cold has cleared up a treat...it really kept the breathing smooth!  ;D

So now you think Mabel may be slightly deaf? I had a deaf cat and I can honestly say that is one of the up-sides of deafness...They cant be lulled into a fight via hissing!  :evillaugh: But may also be an after effect of her cold!  ;)

Glad she has settled in so well...you must be relieved!  :Luv:

She is a lot less snotty, so she has had full run of the house yesterday, when we had our first tray accident, the downstairs one is obviously too small. I think she is a bit deaf, she walked right past two hissing cats last night with no issue!! So she has been in every room bar the cat room. She is eating much better, and does like to try out every bowl of food she can find, so she is a bit loose today, bless her. Her favourite spot seems to be the landing, so I need to re-arrange things so she can have food and water on there. LEast my bathroom is mine again.

She had some time out last night, dont think she met anyone though, as she sat on the stairs (well, the neighbours cat came in and sniffed her, she wasn't bothered). Her nose isn't nearly as bad, and she has started to eat better now. Her fur is also starting to feel softer, although still separates a lot.

Thanks everyone, her nose isn't nearly as bad as it was this morning, and she has eaten a decent amount again - preferred HiLife senior to Whiskas though!! Rachel has met her today, and thinks that she could be as old as 15. Both of us will be very surprised if she has a clean bill of health when her bloods are done though, and she has been a bit unsteady on her legs today, bless her. Her fur has practically no shine to it, so it will be a challenge to build her up!!
MM - she did, but was sick on it today, so that is ready to go in the wash now!!

She turned up as a stray last March Sam, she did have a really bad cold and mouth ulcers at the time, which explains why she is snuffly now she has been moved, so she has an oil burner with eucalyptus in there, and I will have a shower shortly to create some steam. Apparently she missed the tray, so they didn't think they could rehome her, but she has used it overnight with no issues - it is a covered tray though. She wont be coming out of the bathroom for a few days, as the move has obviously made her snuffles a bit worse, so she needs to get over that before she has to go through being spat at, but she has been mixing with cats for the past year and a bit. She ate well last night though - rescue said she barely touches dry, but she ate more dry than wet!!
