:thanks: everyone, it's so lovely having all this support, makes it a little less scary.

Forgot to say that on the way home I didn't hear a single peep out of them - they were so shellshocked  :evillaugh:  Going there was like a sponsored yowl-athon  :innocent:

I think I am a bit late with this - but glad the op went ok.  I know that Spike was running around like nothing had happened three hours later.

Hope all is well with Riley tomorrow

He's already getting away with murder and that's before I even know what is actually wrong with him.  He jumped straight up on the kitchen worksurface when we got in, normally I say down in a stern voice pointing to the floor before I go and pluck him down but tonight I went over and kissed his head  :)  I filled his water bowl up and he drank loads and then spilt the rest on the floor so what did I do - fill it up again for him and now he is skidding all obver the kitchen floor  :evillaugh:  I just can't believe that there is a ything wrong with him  :(

They have both had a can of AD and am just doing some chicken breast for them too, the nurse said not to feed them too much in case they are sick but they have kept the AD fine for 3 hours so I gave in and did them some chicken.  Poor Riley won't be allowed brekkie tomorrow either, he went without food for 23 hours and now he has to miss breakfast too  :(

helen red / pink colour is a good sign, i think the vet would probably have been wanting to rule out cyanosis  which is when the tongue/mucous membranes can look abit blue

They're both home now but Riley has to go back tomorrow morning, he wasn't playing the game when it came to the second conscious ultrasound so I have to take him back again tomorrow as they didn't want to give him any more sedative today after the GA.  The specialist will be there again and they may try for an ECG aswell.

I asked the vet how the ultrasound a month or so ago had shown nothing yet now the heart was enlarged and she basically said it's kind of like a regular GP looking at the scan so the specialist tomorrow will hopefully be able to tell me more.  I asked what kind of things it might indicate and she said they wanted to rule out something like a hole in the heart.  In the back of my mind I keep thinking (hoping) that there is nothing wrong with him - like you say he is so big, active and healthy.  It's only the panting thing that is out of the ordinary, after his first ultrasound a month or so ago she asked me to look at his mucous membranes during the panting sessions, his tongue is always bright red so I thought that was a good sign rather than going pale?

Googling can make you feel so much worse. I looked up cats giving birth and read so many horror stories, it had me climbing the walls worrying that something would go wrong with Jasmine. All worked out fine in the end.

Praying all is okay

Helen try not to worry too much, I know easier said than done. Don't panic about what you found on google, it's bound to give you information on the extremes of cases.

I'm glad the "chopping" went ok though. Lots of purry cuddles coming your way  :Luv:

try not to cross any bridges before you come to them (I know it's hard).

Too late, I googled enlarged heart + cats and it came back to cardiomyopathy, I am praying that's not what he has as the prognosis is not good - 5 years...  He's only a baby, that would be so unfair  :'(

I feel physically sick but there's no way I can go home as I'm on my own in the office today.  I finish at 4 so am going straight down to the vets even though he won't be ready to come home til about 5:30,  the specialist apparently starts at 4 so I'm hoping they will let me hold him for the tests as I know he's going to be feeling very frightened  :(

I think she said she did an ultrasound aswell and that showed the same, she said they are going to do another ultrasound or maybe ECG (can't remember which) when the meds are out of his system.  He still does the panting thing after hard play but the other day he was getting all excited and did it just laying down.  I wasn't overly worried as the vet had sort of put my mind at rest last time but now I'm getting worried.

Dont panic yet Helen, xrays arent always the best for hearts as its common to get false impressions depending on the postion etc so wait till we see what ultrasounds say.

glad the ops went well though.

PS how has his breathing been lately ?

Had some news but it's not all good...  Had a missed call about 20 minutes ago which I missed as my phone is on silent, I rang them back 5 mins ago and spoke to the vet.

Both boys ops went OK but she X-rayed Riley's chest and says that one side of his heart looks a bit larger than it should be.  She said that sometimes the meds used for the anaesthetic can cause enlargement so they are going to wait until he has woken up and do another ultrasound.  One of the vets is a heart specialist so he is going to look at him later aswell  :(

Good luck and I'm sure they'll be fine.

not that it will stop you from worrying:)

I cleaned the entire house in about 2 hours when we had Smoke spayed, we had the time off to make sure she recovered with no problems.

Think she slept on top of me for a week!
