Sorry you've had to abandon the trip for now, Helen, but I would do the same.  :agreed:

Your sister's fridge greeting is very thoughtful and kind, she's a lot like you isn't she?  ;D

Gentle  :nawty: to Lu for frightening his Mum like that, and a special chin rub for the brave Riley who's obviously trying like crazy to get his life back to normal.  :cat rub:

Hoping the progress continues, and his meds become easier to dispense as time goes by.

The results weren't back yesterday so will have to wait til Monday now, last night he kept jumping up onto (and falling off ) the windowsills and today he jumped on the bed a fair few times, bare in mind this is the boy who spent every night for the last 6 years sleeping on my pillow so it was lovely to have him back on the bed, even if it was just for a few minutes  :shy:

As for Lucas...  >:(

I have just had a virtual heart attack, was sitting downstairs and heard a few loud thuds in quick succession, couldn't think what on earth it was at first but then it dawned on me, was Riley having another full on fit? My heart absolutely pounding I ran upstairs, only to find it was Lu trying to access the clip'n'lock storage tub thingy that all Riley's tablet taking treats are hidden in!  :phew:

Not sure what your work rota is atm Helen but very much hope you are getting some rest this weekend and sending chin tickles to both Riley and Lu.  These are for you

Hope kidney results were OK yesterday and just wanted to let you know all three of you are in my thoughts.

Sending best ever vibes to our handsome Riley lad and delighted to hear that vet visit didn't trigger return of seizures.

ETA just love your sister's decorated fridge  :wow: :wow: :wow:

How did the vet visit go yesterday or haven't you got the results yet?

I'll find out the kidney parameter results today but don't think the other test to check for the 'steady state' levels of medication in his system will be back today so will have to wait til early next week. I was really worried that the stress of yet another vet visit might trigger a seizure but thankfully *touch wood* he's been OK. He's still a shadow of his former self personality wise but he's on very high doses of the anti-seizure medications and there's glimmers of my special boy showing through  :shy:

Helen Australia will still be there once Master Riley is a long way down his road to recovery and Skype is a wonderful thing to see you family over there and maybe they could fit in a trip to see you or there is always a half way point for a shorter holiday and get together

I know the costs will be high but I know as long as your boy is working to his recovery then his Mum will learn to like beans on toast having been there over the years I know I can change my habits as long as my babies are ok

My sister understands how important the boys are to me so while she's disappointed she knows that there's no choice in the matter. It's her birthday today and every year I send the boys 'party pic' in the card - she just sent me this pic of her fridge  :)

Pity the Australia trip is off Helen but I can't say I'm in the least surprised   Looking back I wish I had never gone to Turkey for a week for my 50th leaving Fred in cattery.  People do their very best but, with a chronic condition, there's no substitute for a mom's loving care.

No one knows what the future may bring though and Riley may yet have a few nice surprises up his sleeve re his recovery   Also, whilst 3 weeks is a decent period of time for a trip to Oz, I've gone for a week + travelling time and survived  :)

Helen, am sorry to hear Australia will have to be shelved, but it's for the evry best of reasons, and I guess I would feel exactly the same under the circumstances.  I also suspect that having Riley home and trotting down the road the recovery will be far better than any holiday for you.

Well done gorgeous boy :Luv2: :Luv2:
I guess you need to show all your tricks on how to pill Riley to your mum or sister for when you take your trip to Australia

Looks like Australia won't be happening for various reasons - mainly beacuse I don't think I could leave him for 3+ weeks, even though pre-seizures he was generally very laid back (and hyper at the same time!) and doesn't get stressed about things like Lu does I think leaving him for 3 weeks would be too much and stress can be a trigger for seizures. Plus there's the ongoing costs as his insurance is all used up so have to prioritise and he most definitely wins!

Is he going to the loo ok now now hun?  eating ok?   any more meetings with Lu?
All mu love coming over that Riles will be able to be himself soon

Yep, he's fully back to normal in the litter tray department - in fact he has about 7/8 wees a day now as the meds he's on cause extreme thirst and he's been drinking 350ml-450ml of water every 24 hours  His appetite is great (again, due to the meds) and he has probably put back on any weight he lost when he was so poorly.

I've let them mingle freely for the last couple of days, Lu started off being quite hissy every time Riley went near him but it's down to hissing only 20% of the time he goes near him now. He does still smell slightly 'vet-y' and luckily Riley takes no notice of Lu  :shy:

Got an appointment at the regular vets tomorrow to check the level of the meds in his system, and also kidney function cos there were issues with his kidneys while at the specialists. My vet does have in house testing but I already asked the specialist about the test and he said that the sample needs to be sent away to a lab so probably won't find out til early next week.

Will Riley need all these tablets for life or just the anti seizure ones?

The anti-seizure meds (four times a day) are for life  :shy: He's just finished a course of tablets to relax his bladder cos he wasn't weeing after the surgery (behavioural due to stress of being hospitalised rather than anything wrong physically) and he's also on steroids for about the next 6-7 months, reducing the dose by 1mg each month.
