Ahhh bless him .... do you think this is a conscious thing, is he hanging on because he is stressed.  I don't know if cats do this to be honest.  I hope he doesn't stress himself out too much ... does the vet have any calming devices (felliway or pet remedy) in the it area.  I know this may sound silly but I met the guy who deveoped Pet Remedy at the weekend and his peoduct is amazing and highly recommended by vets (here is one recommendation from their facebook page:

I met you at the BAHVS meeting. I brought home the little sample spray bottle and have been using it in my exam room and with my very nervous patients awaiting surgery. AMAZING!
I've had a number of clients order it already- I hope you've noticed a spike in your US sales!- and would like to start stocking the diffuser and a few spray bottles in my office.
Can you tell me how to proceed with the ordering?
Thanks,

This is just one of many such recommendations.  It might be worth mentioning to the vet to help calm their patients.  Anything that might help our little lad feel better and be able to come home to you is worth a go.

Another down on the rollercoaster today  :(

He hasn't had any seizures thankfully, but he isn't weeing. There's a risk of his baldder rupturing again and also his kidney leves are raised. He has had to be sedated and recatheterised, he's on a drip again to flush the kidneys. The vet said it's a vicious circle in that the the catheter combined with the steroid increases the risk of infection and that the more time he is in hospital the less inclined he is to wee naturally as the stress is getting to him.

Thats sounds so positive!

Im not sure about the weeing on your phone (and missing) but hey thats life with cats i guess

I hope the twitches fade away and he continues to recover so well.

Amber used to like chasing flies and would do circuits of the room at head height but the other day she tried to get a fly on the ceiling and barely lifted her feet off the floor  :evillaugh:

Positive vibes to you all

it is only natural that his twitching makes you nervous after everything that has happened and I hope the vet can give you some reassurance tomorrow

Oh Helen, this sounds so much more encouraging  :)  Paddy threw up in my handbag once.  No big deal  :evillaugh:  Only crazy cat ladies could say that, eh?   Just a thought Helen but when Riley does come home, May be better to buy a new, low cat tree just for him, so Lu doesn't feel his world changes even further when his brother smells strange etc

I do hope the vet can reassure you about these twitches, otherwise you are going to be so anxious watching him all the time once he's home

Tell me about it! Everytime he so much as licks his lips I panic thinking that the facial seizures are going to start again so the twitches almost send me over the edge :scared: I guess one positive thing to take from it is that he has had 'twitching' on three different days now but has had no mini or full seizures so am hoping that they are not something that means he will start having them again. The vet has already said to expect some isolated or episodic activity of seizures over the next few weeks so it wouldn't be a huge shock if he started having them again, it's just the problem of getting them under control.

Helen his twitches may be aftershocks as opposed to pre-empts.  :crossed: I sincerely hope so.

Great he's interested in flies again, but sorry he took a little tumble. Hoping you're feeling more relaxed and able to reclaim some lost sleep.

It all sounds quite encouraging, Helen. Hopefully the twitching doesn't mean anything too serious and good that he's had no seizures and is showing interest in what's going on around him. It does sound as though he's slowly getting back to the Riley we all knew and love. I'm keeping everything crossed he continues to improve and can soon go home   Thank god you got your phone away in time! Can't have cats weeing on iPhones!!

The collar came off when the catheter was removed, they had to put it on as he had started paying attention to it and trying to get it out. I think he only had it on for one day as when previously catheterised I think he was too spaced out/sleepy to bother with it.

Sounds really quite positive today then and fingers crossed vet can allay your fears tomorrow re twitching.  He's been so very poorly Helen, it will take him a while to regain his strength but being able to wee again is very good news.  Is he still wearing the collar?

So glad you saved your mobile and car keys from being being pee'd on  :)  I remember our Tom threw up in my handbag once   Who cares when they are ill eh?

Onwards and upwards.  Doesn't matter how slow; as long as in the right direction.  The fact that you are even daring to mention the possibility of Riley going home soon is very encouraging

No seizures overnight but he did have about three 'twitching' episodes during my 45 min visit  :shy: Will talk to the vet about whether these need be a massive cause for concern tomorrow cos at the moment every time he twitches my heart virtually stops.

The catheter was removed this morning and he had a wee just before I arrived, he also decided to have a rather large wee on the desk in the room we were in  :naughty: He was sitting on my phone and car keys at the time which I just managed to remove in the nick of time.

He seemed quite bright and was walking around a lot, he is still very wobbly and can't jump properly so fell off the table while trying to jump to a chair. Im going to dismantle the cat tree into three segments as it's way too high for him as things stand. One thing which did encourage me was that there was a little fly in the room and he paid attention to it following it with his head - which shows he's a bit more alert than he has been. An on form Riley would have chased it and eaten it but one step at a time.

Just got to hope and pray there is no seizure activity overnight as will be discussing with the vet tomorrow whether he can come home :wish:
