So pleased that Smokey has a new loving home.  I'll move this now  :)

It would be nice to get updates if you'd like to post in Cats Stories section, I do always worry about cats that are grieving

That's a shame about your parents but at least she has a fantastic retirement home with you  :)

The more serious problem as I see it, is the elderlys confidence in their relative looking after their animal for them when they die. They need to make it legal and build a sum into the will. It makes me so angry when they are let down by money grabbing rels. only out for themselves. Having experienced many situations like this in the past, even the "nicest" rels. grow horns over money.

I'm not elderly (hope to have at least another 50 years on this planet  :evillaugh:) but I have it written into my will what is to happen to the boys and there is money set aside purely for their care from my death in service pension thingy. I was one of the first flights to leave the UK after the ash cloud last year so that focused my mind on sorting something legally binding for them just in case!

Hey Jill,

So glad she's ok. Hopefully in time she'll settle. I bet she will. I think she wants to cuddles and attention, but is just too scared and a bit lost at the minute. She is very beautiful! Shame your mum & dad didn't get tempted! But, at least they'll see her, like you said.

I had the same situation with an older greyhound. His very elderly owners both died in quick succession, and the son booked him in for PTS as he didn't want the lovely boy. I managed to get him in a home via Greyhound Gap (if not he would have lived with us!), and was so pleased to be at work that day so I could save him! He was the sweetest boy, and the old couple adored him and cared for him so well, so they would have been heartbroken had they known the plan for him was PTS.

Keep us updated about the lovely Smokey...

Just to let everyone know. I collected Smokey on sunday as planned.
It was a shame as she was seeming to settle there.
Mum and dad thought it was just too soon after losing Foxy. They come to stay often, so she will see them then.
She is very lovely, but grieving at present and so has taken to my bedroom.
I think she wanders at night when all lights out. It's early days but am confident she will settle.

The more serious problem as I see it, is the elderlys confidence in their relative looking after their animal for them when they die.
They need to make it legal and build a sum into the will.
It makes me so angry when they are let down by money grabbing rels. only out for themselves.

Just phoned mum,
Smokey is fine. Eaten twice, used her tray. The bedroom door is now open, has been for a while, and Smokey has appeared downstairs twice for a mooch around.
When M or D spoke to her she wandered, not ran, back upstairs.
they fully expect her to come down and sit with them soon.
Mum says she's been sitting on bottom step talking to her on the top step.
She also says she is beautiful, with that cat lovers enthusiasm, and eyes slightly glazed over way.
She has to come down quickly and work on my dad before I arrive on sunday.
Hopefully her intelligence should tell her it's him she has to work on.
So fingers crossed for her to sit on his knee and gaze at him with her blue eyes! :Luv2:

Hiya Jill... Any updates on the lovely Smokey? She settled down a bit?

Your mum was great! She just took her, cuddled her, and then carried her upstairs, sure she'd not make it under the bed  :) Obviously the beautiful lady had other ideas!!

Just spoken to mum who says she's lovely, if a little shy..
she's going to spend some time with her coaxing her out from underneath the bed, which she had spent loads of time blocking up, don't they ALWAYS find a way!
When the outside  doors are firmly shut, they'll open the room door to let her wander around the house.
I'm due sunday to pick her up.
Mum's here 4 times a year anyway so if they do get on but do not keep, she will still have her here 4 weeks at a time.
If anyone can bring a cat round, she can. Years ago, whilst staying at the farm, Very feral mother cats use to bring their kits, with eyes still tightly closed, and deposit them on the caravan steps.
Mum used to wip um up quick, coz if found with eyes closed they used to be drowned, (an old idea that if eyes closed couldn't  feel, sad but alot of farmers thought that).
Anyway she'd put them in a box in the little caravan bedroom and the mothers would pop in and feed them and more remarkably would stay the night with door closed.
They completely trusted her. Once their eyes were open, we went on to try to rehome.
That is how I started in the business of rescue.
But unfortunately, in those days , it was so difficult to educate the farmers themselves that spaying was the answer. (if only it was JUST the farmers nowadays instead of old Joe Public.)

Smokey now safely delivered to Jill's parents! Although scared, she was fine, and was taken upstairs to calm down and have some lunch! I think she'll be absolutely fine once she's settled in somewhere.
What a great outcome!
Now I'm gonna email the Grantham paper about the old boy I'v brought home. Think he could be blind or not have the best sight  :( He is pacing loads, and looking at home, I am sure he must have an owner.
Good luck Smokey lady!!

hope this works out well for all -agreed they are sensitive cats despite their reputations they also like company of their own kind and form close friendships-sadly sometimes they are quite highly strung especially if not well bought up in a loving home environment

Please, please ask the lady not to leave her to it, as siamese are different to other cats. She needs lots and lots of coaxing, reasurence, love, flattery anything to stop her brooding. This is an important period which could "kill or cure her".
Left to herself she will be much much worse.

Totally agree with you .... Siamese are VERY sensative souls and will withdraw into their shells.

Ah! Bless her  :Luv:

Will wait with interest to see what happens there then...!!!

You can always email me at: lizstokes@tiscali.co.uk with further details.

I may be bringing the other oldie home at the same time (depending if FeLV/FIV and bloods have been carried out) as he's likely to be living with us (I miss having an oldie!)

We can arrange things more via email, but I think I'll be collecting Miss Siamese about 10-10.30am.

just spoken with mum. She has been shopping this am, and got cat food. Ahem...
Happy to keep her until SUN ,(better day for travelling, can have sunday lunch, Fathers day, you know), for me to collect.
She is very used to the way orientals greive, so is planning what she is going to say to her, reassurence etc.
My mum sounds like a different lady, on the phone, today.
there is a kind of vailed excitement in her voice.
Will need to private email you at some point, how do i do that?

It's Avenue at Grantham. That's not where he was originally taken ( I think he was taken to Kirks in Grantham) but it's my old practice so I often have drop offs and collections from there.
I'm gonna ask if a history can be faxed to Avenue so I can collect that, too, so we have a full picture of her health/history.
So glad this is all working out for the little lady...

Any news yet? It's just that I am waiting to arrange things this end.
Mum and Dad are happy for you to drop her off to them friday so that I can collect.
Who knows, maybe when they have met her and if I can't get from coventry until Sat.......
Well I can dream, can't I? Don't get me wrong, I would dearly love her, but the pain they are in at the moment, and her pain, would make it an ideal union.

Jillie,
I will pass all your info onto the lady fostering her. I also feel it is best to get her into a safe/stable/loving environment a.s.a.p. The lady fostering is so lovely, and will save any animal, but she has a lot of cats/animals and took her because if she had nowhere to be signed over to, PTS was the only other option.
I could probably collect her Friday and bring her here (also in Balderton), where she would be inside with me in the office with a bed, toilet and cuddles...
I'll ring the lady fostering this afternoon and get an update.

Hi,
I will definitely give your cat a home no question. That is if you think it's right.
I'm the one Angie spoke about.
I'm also the daughter of the couple devastated by the loss of Foxylady, their 17yr old baby, from Newark.
I've rung them but no answer at present. She would be ideal for them, but I fear it may be too soon.
Their vets are in Balderton, am can give good references.
However failing that, some of you know me via here and Angie.
I'm in coventry and specialise in elderly cats, eapecially those who have lost an owner.
I also "specialise" in siamese, who I have a lifelong passion for.
As you all know ,I'm sure, so forgive me, siamese seem to be totally unique in these circumstances.
They go under very quickly, and greive badly and get super stressed.
She needs stability and quickly.
I do have several oldies but I find due to the calmness of the house, new cats settle quickly.
This is imperitive as some of them don't have long to go and the object is that they enjoy their final years with me.
Angie can vouch for me as i have several of Cov. cats oldies.
My other thought is that if this were to happen, then due to the close prox. of Newark to Grantham.
She could be taken to my parents, for me to collect.
Now, call me devious, but as much as I'd like her, my parents doted on Foxy and adore my cats, but faced with holding her for a day or so ?? they might just tell me not to bother to collect her. Obviously she would be overseen by me anyway as they come to stay and always bring their cat with them.
