The feathers are probably sent in a tube which is why they cost a bit more than normal postage.
BTW don't you have a local butcher near you who could provide you with a few "fresh" pheasant feathers. My local butcher regularly has game hanging outside and I often flutter my eyelashes at him and get a couple of nice tail feathers for the babies to play with
