More information can be found on our web site: http://www.covcats.org.uk*** Donations can also be made from our website ***WHO ARE WE?We are a group dedicated to helping and caring for the welfare and improving the quality of life of abandoned or feral cats in and around Coventry.
We respond to calls for help from the public and other organisations, e.g. PDSA, when we are told cats, kittens or families of cats (mum and kittens) are apparently abandoned living in gardens or on the highway, or surviving rough as ferals. We catch the strays and take them to a veterinary centre for an assessment of their condition. They are treated as necessary and checked for an identity ?chip?. If there is no ?chip?, they are placed with fosterers while we make efforts to identify any owners by enquiries in the vicinity or through another local charity called ?Pet Search?. If that fails, we adopt the cats into Coventry Cat Group?s care for re-homing.
After neutering, if appropriate, we try to find each cat a loving new home. Kittens that are homed are ALWAYS required to be neutered when old enough. Cats which are not domesticated are relocated where possible at farms or riding stables or returned to their original habitat and arrangements are made for them to be regularly fed. If necessary, we try to place an old cat in a charitable home for ageing and sick animals.
These methods prove to be extremely successful.?
We follow a policy of never having a cat ?put to sleep? unless it is suffering extreme distress from untreatable conditions.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST US?Coventry Cat Group can spend up to ?10,000 a year.
We need funds to pay for vet's fees (neutering and treatment), feeding fostered cats and colonies and buying equipment.
We raise all our money through membership subscriptions, by donations from individuals, by donations from adopters of our cats and by tin collections at local stores. We have recently started to auction items on E-bay and to apply to suitable Trust Funds and local Companies for donations.
WILL YOU JOIN US ???Just by joining Coventry Cat Group, your membership is a thankfully received contribution. If you can make a donation too, that would be a bonus.
If you are a cat loving person and wish to help like-minded people, fill out the application form and, together with your membership fee, POST IT TODAY to our Membership Secretary.
Membership of Coventry Cat Group runs from April of one year to the following March.
ACTIVE VOLUNTEERS NEEDEDWe are always looking for active volunteers to help out with our work. This can vary from being a fosterer, helping to move cats and/or supplies between fosterers, helping out at fund raising events or, if you have any DIY/electrical skills, doing the odd repair on the cat pens.
All fosterers get their food, litter and vet expenses paid for the cats in their care. Cats are fostered in either inside or outside pens.
If you run a shop perhaps you can volunteer to display one of our collection tins?
If you can drive, are you prepared to help with the trapping of cats in feral colonies, taking them to the vets and returning them after neutering?
If you can spare any time on a regular or ad hoc basis please get in touch.
If you are having a clear out, do you have any items you can donate to us either to use or to sell?
Regular meetings take place that allow members to meet each other and discuss all things cat related.
Volunteers need to be 16 or over.HOW TO ADOPT ONE OF OUR CATS.As we are not fortunate to have a central homing location, we try to ensure that our website is kept up to date with the cats we are currently fostering. To see what cats are available go to our website at
http://www.covcats.org.uk, enter the cat flap and check out the adoptions page. Double clicking on the photos will open the photograph up in a separate window.
A home visit is required before we re home so therefore most of the homing is done in and around Coventry, though we can arrange to accept vet references or home visits by another organisation.
We do insist that if a cat is to be allowed out, the home is not on a main road. We have no real policy on children, though we will expect to see how younger children behave with the cat. Ideally kittens are home in pairs if there are no other cats - especially if people are working full time.
Donations on homing account for most of the money raised by the group. We suggest a minimum donation of ?20. Our cats are not normally inoculated or chipped but if they are over 6 months will be neutered before re homing.
As with most rescues we usually have a list of cats waiting to come in and are happy to re home these straight from their current owner, though in these instances we will not have vet checked the cat and may not be able to accommodate the return of the cat immediately if it needs to be brought back into the group.
