I would agree if there was a problem but if all is well I don't think it would be acceptable.

Amputating extra toes is only really ever considered if they are quite badly "unnatural" or there are so many it can affect the cats balance or be a danger of getting caught on things..so not very often but i dare say in some instances removing one or so extra toes might be of benefit to the cat

It might have meant the claws, sometimes they can have issues with the extra claws.

I have no idea, as posted I have had a Polydactyl cat and there are a number in this area. As far as I know a vet has never suggested removing extra toes. Perhaps the vet was desperate for business.

OH sent me a link to that article this morning. Why would the vet suggest amputating the extra toes, if they didn't cause any problems?

(I just kept thinking how big Poppy's feet would be if she had even more toes... Her feet are ENORMOUS as it is! I hope she'll grow into them. And her tree trunk legs.)

We took in a Polydactyl cat as a stray and it was soon reunited with its owner. Not long after I think it may have been the next weekend its picture was in the Sunday People (They always have an animal bit, and the story must have been submitted a while before the cat got lost.) I think that bad, 27, 28, or 29 toes can't remember exactly.

We go get quite a few Polydactyl in this area. I remember  I named my first one  Bruno (after Frank Bruno huge hands)

My Ivan has an extra toe on one of his paws, but it seems he's very far behind the record! What a cute looking cat Des is too!
