Happy Birthday Lucy

I've had Lucy for two years today, there were points this year I didn't think we'd be typing this. This is the message she has sent to the rescue she is from, I'll have to post pics from the phone

I have been here for 2 whole years now, although mum wasn’t sure at one point I would be here to wish you all a Merry Christmas, I’ve spent over 10 days at the vets this year. I started the year off with only my hip dysplasia, then they thought I had slight luxating patellas but decided I’d probably had them all my life and I was coping fine with them. I had blood tests before my hip operation that showed I have very early stage Chronic Kidney Disease, which made my mum sad for me, as it meant regular monitoring, but she hoped I’d be able to get 5 good years. Just as I was recovering from my operation, I became poorly and had to spend 5 days at the emergency vets, they eventually decided, after a day spent at a specialist vet that I have idiopathic hypercalcaemia, they don’t know why I have that, which means they can’t cure it, only manage it, which made mum think I wouldn’t get 5 years. Luckily I only have to have half a tablet a week, but I also have to have some horrible liquid the day before, as I still keep being sick. Mum has told the vets that if I develop any more health issues that she won’t make me have any more tests or treatments, think the vet is glad as I draw blood on her quite frequently – she said I was worse than her highly strung Bengal!! Because of the arthritis caused by my dodgy hips, I have to go once a month for needles (acupuncture), as I don’t like the liquid mum gave me last year, although I like the treats I get in the evening, and my heated bed, and now I have to have blood tests every 3 months to monitor my calcium and kidneys, which I hate, I try and hide from her, so she has to shut the bedroom door so I don't sneak under the bed, so I know something is going on, it's the only time she shuts it. Mum also thinks it’s odd that I don’t really like wet food, but I like the special food for my kidneys, although we are now struggling with my weight, which is essential for my dodgy hips – luckily the vet isn’t too concerned as it means I have reserves if my kidneys/calcium affect my appetite. Mum says she is very pleased that PetPlan have only asked for £20 extra a year, she was expecting a lot more after they have paid around £4k this year, but she loves me so much she’d have paid it anyway 😊 She would like me to show her more affection next year, but I think she asks too much!!

I do miss the volunteers, you tried your best for me despite me not showing any appreciation because of how stressed and unhappy I was, but I’m very glad to have a home of my own, and mum won’t make me share it with anyone, even though Sooty across the road keeps trying his luck – I chase him off though, although mum says I have to be nice to him as he is older than me. I love snuggling into things, mum found me in a pile of towels last month, she thinks I'm odd, but I love to be warm and snuggly.
