If I were in the UK I would indeed have had to sneak in - my passport expired three years ago, lol. But no. Now they are talking about snow tomorrow - I have given up on the whole idea of working out what the weather will be tomorrow. I have firewood and that is all that counts.

The temperature is all over the shop at present (it has been like it for months). Even the weather bureau has thrown its hands in the air and seems to throw darts at numbers when it makes a prediction. Monday coming will be eleven apparently - today was 20 and so will be the days between now and Monday. It makes a nonsense of the whole "packing away the winter woollies ready for summer' business. Oh well.

Good thing too! We are expecting minus two tonight. Seb (as you can tell from his absence) is already warming up the bed for me.

Yes, it's a bit unfair on them at the moment. I have put a ladder up to the manhole and the cats simply disappear into the ceiling :innocent:. The dogs don't have that option!

Hi Alison, Hi Sue - good to see so many familiar faces. I am afraid life is very crowded these days - will be more so once the house in Chatham is sold. I will be finally able to do some of the more urgent work on my house - leak-free roof! A shed so the loungeroom is no longer cluttered up with tools and building materials - it will be very exciting. Oh, and a fence so the dogs can go outside when I vacuum which will be more fun for all of us! lol

I ran as a Greens candidate and this area hates the Greens, so I did not have terribly much expectation of getting in.

Good to see so many of the old gang still here!

Gill you will have to wait for photos of the house progress till it makes some progress which should be fairly soon once I get the house in Kent off my hands. Australia has always been physically closer to Asia than to Europe, but our European roots made it to focus culturally on the other side of the world. We have just finally started to work out the benefits of trading more locally. That and our all too right wing government has signed up to a lot of trade deals that are not in our interests (sorry, I have become politically active in my old age).

Carol - sorry to hear about the boatlessness, but at least the kitties will be happier on dry land! Hope all is well with you and yours.

Sue, yes - it is quite remarkable how well he is right now. Fortunately we have a visiting vet in the neighbourhood so he will have good care while he is still enjoying life and will go out gently at home once it all becomes too much for him. Thirteen is a good age for a large dog breed, so I am thrilled he is going strong.

:hi: Jo.  Lovely to hear from you.  I sometimes pop onto your blog but as I don't do it regularly I confess I get a bit lost as to how things are going.  :innocent:

Other than now being boat-less for the first time in 20 years (for me that is, much longer than that for OH) not a lot has changed here.  The 2 kittens we adopteed following Korky's demise are now 4 years old and a source of great joy.  Well done to Shadow for discovering his inner puppy - long may it continue.  :Luv2:

Less said about the house the better, lol. Still in a state of suspended renovation. The house in the UK has, however, recovered its value so I should be able to sell it pretty soon which will finish off the main (hard) bits needed for the house here, and that will be very nice indeed (no leaky roof, floor coverings on the concrete slab, you get the picture). Good to see you are still here Dawn. I keep in touch with a few of you on FB from time to time which is kind of nice.

Just passing through
« Reply #1 on: October 08, 2015, 10:49:10 AM »
Hi all, just me (for those of you who remember me).

Sorry it has been a while since I have been on the forum - there seems little point when I am so far away here in Australia. I thought you would like a bit of an update on the family though.

Esther is now getting quite old - I have no idea how old she was when I adopted her, but her body shape is changing and she is starting to look like an old cat. Apart from the odd bit of senility showing (yawping at midnight etc), she is otherwise in the peak of health. She goes for a stroll in the mornings for about 15 minutes, catches a skink or two and then comes in and demands breakfast fifteen minutes later. She knocks on the back door and if ignored, starts to yell.

Smidgen (my Cheshire cat) is getting quite portly. He is now nine years old and the indoor life is not helping his weight problem. He does get plenty of exercise (of which more later) but he is too fond of his food is all.

Shadow, my darling boy is now 13 and showing it. He has always been a bit weak behind (labrador rottweiler cross - he had no chance really) and two Christmasses ago I thought I was going to have to put him down on Christmas Day as he woke and could not stand. I took him to the vet but by then he was back on his feet again so we gave him a bit longer. Meanwhile I went to the Dogs Home and chose a replacement - Sebastian. Since Seb arrived, Shadow has become a puppy once more and runs, plays fetch, comes on 4 km walks with us and generally seems pretty fit all things considered. I will be getting the vet to come visit us at home in the not too distant future (travelling and hour and a half seems unnecessary when we have a visiting one) so she can see him in his natural environment and assess his condition.

Seb and Smidgen seem to have bonded rather well, and they play together regularly. Smidge flops on his side under a chair then Seb gets down, pinches a toothful of fur and skin and drags him out again. The first time i saw this I was horrified, but apparently Smidgen enjoys it as when I call Seb off Smidge does his level best to entice him back to enjoy the game. Here is Seb enjoying the Spring sunshine, and Smidge is keeping his toes warm for him. Seb curls up in Smidgen's donut cushion to keep comfy in front of the fire, and Smidge spreads out on the dog bed - you get the picture. It works. :Luv:
