Sorry if I now repeat myself but I lost connection whilst I was posting.

Have you tried aloe vera?

The reason I ask is that I work with Forever Living in my spare time and through that and having my three on the gel drink I know it's safe for cats.

I would recommend spraying on our vet formula but rather than waste your money (it's a huge bottle) I can post you some samples of aloe gelly to see if it helps whilst the vet carries on investigating.

Something that may help (obviously discuss with your vet first) Ziggy's "wound" is some Wound Powder which can be bought from Pets at home:

If Ziggy is scratching the area and making it bleed then I would suggest using Leucillin .... this stuff is fabulous and should be in every pet owners first aid box (it can also be used on humans  )  http://www.leucillin.co.uk/

Ahhhhh this sounds very much like what my friends kitty is suffering from.  Her vet told her it was a "hot spot" (Hot spots, also known as pyotraumatic dermatitis, are circular lesions that are most likely to occur on the head, neck, tail or thigh area) and also prescribed fuciderm daily ... the spot is on his cheek and is a red angry sore that's not healing.  Not sure if this is the same as Ziggy has.

Thank you very much for this information I shall certainly follow it up, and indeed talk to the vet about it as well. I think one of the vets who saw him earlier mentioned dermatitis, so this does sound similar. I'll let you know of any developments.

Well he hasnt had any blood tests yet, although I just spoke to the vet on the phone again, and he said they will do that when they take him in to clean up the wound and give it the best chance to heal. He said it is in such an awkward place, as he can easily sit down and scratch it with his hind right leg, which of course knocks away any forming scab, and or dressing. He did at they could stitch in some loops and dress it somehow, but he would need to stay in for several weeks. Ziggy would be so stressed being kept in, he loves being outside, we live in a quiet cul de sac surrounded by gardens and countryside. He would be very upset to be confined indoors. However if there is no better solution, we will need to try and contain him until it's healed. Thank you for other members good wishes btw. Much appreciated.

Sorry, I can't be of any help but wish to pass on my best wishes to yourself and Ziggy.

Hopefully someone will be along soon with a similar experience and be able to advise.

Make sure you get the full details, chance of success, cost etc before you go ahead, if you decide to go ahead.

Our 15yr old tabby Maine coon lad has had a nasty sore on the back of his neck for months. I have had the vet look and treat probably 4 or 5 times. The vet reckons the injury stems from a cat disagreement which festered and became infected. The wound started as about the size of a raisin, now it is about a 2p piece size, and not healing. If he manages to leave it alone long enough it scabs up, a black crumbly matter, which breaks away in small bits. Eventually it will become dislodged completely with him itching despite fuciderm being applied and shots for anti biotics. Now it once again red raw, and I feel terrible not being able to sort it out for him. The vet gave me fuciderm to put on daily, but it isn't healing. A collar is out of the question according to the vet as it will likely rub the area, and besides ziggy would freak out with that on him. The latest from the vet is we might take him into surgery to clean all the dead tissues and give the area the best chance of healing. I have doubts though. Does anyone have any similar experience of this, or any ideas on how to proceed. Poor ziggy, he seems ok otherwise but something has to be done.
