Just ordered the scratching cat bed from the Purrs shop, Tan. Hope the order went in ok as I'm out of the UK at the moment. I'll let you know how it compares with the green box they have now

I'm late  :evillaugh:

I think if you are in to the sights of London it would be ok in your house.  I would prefer a giant mouse or a chicken, something cat related.

As for the price, I think Americans can afford £100 easier than we can  ;)

Thanks soo much for all ya opinions all very very gratefully received :)

Big Ben is a gonna (GOOOOONG)  as I have had a better idea for the tall tower design which also incorporates cat toys  ;) (thanks Sue hun :)

I have 4 other scracther designs in the making so the tower scratcher style will just be one of them for variety :) plus the wall walker / sleeper / climber system :)

I have been looking at other cardbaord scratcher prices out there at the mo and the very simple wave type design/ square block all made in bulk in China are very very cheap between £4- £10 and  so we can't compete with them as we will hand make them (well i won't but my slaves will!  :evillaugh :)  ) from scratch ( excuse the pun!  ) so we are going middle range with different designs.  But making them a good size for adult cats!!

Whatch this space  :)

I think it's OK.

We have a corrugated bed for Cleo which she loves - although I din't think she scratches it, which was the idea when we got it! She's certainly a horizontal scratcher but, unfortunately, seems to prefer carpet  :(

Alfie's scratcher is a tower of corrugated card circles and he is rather fond of it, so I guess he would like the Big Ben design. I, too, thought that the base looked a bit too small for stability, Alf is 7kg. It's all very well telling us that it will be OK but people might be put off by the look of it I suspect.

I do like the idea of sections being replaceable but, even so, wouldn't want to pay much more than £20 for it - I've just got a big 'tree' for just over £50 so anything more than £20 would look like poor VFM.

Sorry, but I am not a fan of the big ben design either

I would think about £20 for it would be reasonable for those that DO like it!

Sly doesn't need to be comfy, the green box is less than half his chunky footprint, but he still lies on, around, overlapping  :-[ he's not the only one, they push each other off to have a shot at lying, loving up to it, so any funky horizontal design would work. If the innards came out to be turned over occasionally it would extend the aesthetics by 100%. What about a four poster bed with replacement corrugated mattress?  :innocent:

Hi Hunnies

thanks sooo much   Great to get all feedback :)

yes I was shocked to see the USA designed one at that silly price esp for a cardboard one!

Love the mouse idea Sue  ;D

We have some other designs up our sleeves with horizontal ones ie beds etc, wall beds, wall walkers and climbers.

we do a curved cardboard bed in the shop at the mo and that does well as does the cardboard sratch den both from other suppliers but people have been asking for bigger.  I do find that alot of things for the cats are not paritcually big enough for the ave adult sized cat to be comfortable in.

I think it looks fun, and I think the cats would enjoy it - they love being able to hook their claws into things (as the arm of our sofa can testify).   :evillaugh:

I might buy one to try if it wasn't too expensive.  I'd probably want to pay no more than around £20 - £25.00 for one that big, as I imagine it would begin to look a little careworn with regular use and abuse.  The design of Big Ben isn't the most inspiring, but I guess as a shape it works well for its purpose.   Adding a mouse for decorative effect would be aesthetically pleasing to me.....  :)  Hickory Dickory dock.....

I've seen the horizontal ones that PAH sell, and one of my colleague's cast loves hers, which need to be replaced regularly.  This one at least appears to be much more robust in construction.

Can't say I'm loving the design either Tan  :shy:  Not that I have anything against Big Ben as such but just not in the house.

£100 is also pretty steep for a scratcher when you can get a cat tree that the puds can lounge on with scratching posts included for less.  Sorry Tan  :shy:

We have the little green box scratchers from zoo plus that, once sprinkled with catnip, are a huge favourite with everyone here, so anything made of corrugated card would be a huge success here. Honestly, though, I wouldn't give houseroom to this as it's way too big for our house, but in a different design, and maybe designed for horizontal scratching, laying on, I definitely would.

Ok ta for your view.
It's the corrugated part that cats love to scratch and boxes are flat smooth cardboard so not the same :)

Thanks Liz will take ya up on the testing of it with your wonderful gang hug

Yes it is all corrugated cardboard. There are many sisal ones out there already so don't want to go into those
Plus we can use the cardboard we get from the shop stuff. :)

Out of all the scratchers we have the cardboard ones are used liked the most.

Obviously cardboard has a shorter shelf life than Sisal so the blocks can be replaced and the prices to reflect a cardboard scratcher.

This one is USA and is very expensive at over £100!!!!

In answer to the question we would buy it at a reasonable price and if the base is solid then it shouldn't topple we have some odd ones here with bases that look small but they stay vertical and mine get a lot of abuse from cats from 2.5 to nearly 9kgs so if you need a lot of testers let us know  ;D

Hiya thanks :)

It's still in testing at the mo. It's strong enough to not fall over with a cat scratching high so works well for the cat scratching :)

Just wanted to hear opinions on the look, if it is liked or not and if not why :)
Would you feel happy with it in your home?
Is this something you would buy for your cat if the price is right.
and what price would you think is right?

Big Ben cardboard cat scratcher.

Cats love cardboard to scratch on.

Just under a meter tall , great for a full stretch and scratch.

separate sections are replaceable so when any section is worn it can be easily replaced.

Do you like it ? if not why? :)

Would you buy it and if so what price would you be prepared to pay for it  ?
