Helen, am thinking of you, and hoping Riley's night has been uneventful and quiet.      I suspect he was excited at seeing you, and may have been a little over-stimulated.  After everything he's been through that probably is only to be expected.  Keeping fingers crossed and sending you varous shaped snoozles jam-packed with positive vibes for Riley, and a gentle hug for you and Lu.

Will wait to hear what the overnight report from the vet is.

Helen, you might want to have a chat with your doctor too.

Friends of mine recommend yoga as a huge help (I can't do it because of my disability but friends say it's magic for focusing the mind and alleviating stress) or perhaps try natural herbal tea such as chamomile or peppermint to help take the edge off. :care:

After all, we don't want you ending up poorly just as Riley's starting to get better now, do we?

Hoping today brings continued good news for Riley, Helen. It must be agony waiting to hear each day, but he sure is in the best possible hands.

Agony doesn't come close, I actually thought I was going to vomit a few hours ago my stomach was so knotted, after his twitches in the afternoon I'm terrified he'll have gone into seizures overnight :(

I'm not normally the nervous type but all the stress has got to me, it's been two weeks now. The vet has said he will try and ring as early as possible as he knows I've been on nights so fingers crossed my panicking was for nothing. Like you say, he's in the best hands so it really is just a case of wait and see.

Visit went OK, he had two 'twitchy' episodes while I was there - not a mini seizure or a full blown one but the pre-empt  :shy: The vet didn't seem too worried but last time he had a mini seizure while I was there was when it developed from that into the worst period where he had 5 full blown ones in one day so can't help worrying what might happen overnight. Hoping and praying that doesn't happen this time but it will be a long night that's for sure. Other than that he was OK, he ate some more ham and responded well to strokes.

He has started to groom himself, is eating and taking his tablets. The main thing is there have been no seizures or twitches. He's still in intensive care and not sure how long he will need to remain there but things are looking so much more positive than a few days ago. Going to visit him again later this afternoon  :)

As you say it is early days but this is sounding more positive Helen.  Grooming and eating is very good  :)  Hope he can stay in ITU for a little longer than last time.  At least I am assuming it is quieter there and he is observed longer there than in general cat ward?  What do I know eh?  Just so pleased the young chap seems quite settled in himself and hope this afternoon's visit goes well   Am sending a little snoozle for our boy  :catlove2:

Yep, the intensive care bit is more closely monitored. Some days he's been the only one in there and other times there's been a dog in there but the poor dog on both occasions has been too 'out of it' to worry Riley.

Sick to the pit of your stomach is probably pretty understated I would guess Helen.     I think we've been feeling that and it must be so much worse for you.

Each day as it comes, treasure, one step at a time.  Riley's such a little trooper - one "verree bwave sod'jer" as Paddy would have put it.

The vet just rang and confirmed what the nurse said  :)  I'm trying not to get ahead of myself as he remained seizure free for 4 days after being weaned off the first anaesthetic and today is still just 24 hours after being fully weaned off the second sedative (although he hasn't had a fit since late Monday) so I don't want to get over excited but like I said, compared to how he was a few days ago this is good progress.

I am astounded that I haven't developed a stomach ulcer by now as when he was so very poorly, and in between every single update, I just feel sick to the pit of my stomach.

Everything crossed for a positive progress report from vet today.  How did your short visit to Riley go yesterday?  Is he eating?

I didn't like to post yesterday as am scared of tempting fate but he was very bright yesterday compared to the previous visits... and hungry! I took a slice of ham, beef and chicken from the deli - all three slices were devoured in seconds! The nurse said he's only been fed an hour and a half ago!

The vet didn't ring this morning, obviously being a referral centre they must have their fair share of emergency cases so I didn't like to pester but rang at 10am which is the latest I'd normally hear from them, he wasn't available so I left it til 12 (agony!) to ring back and he's still not available so just spoke to the lovely nurse who is looking after him.

They have taken his catheter out, no sign of any urine yet but early days. He has started to groom himself, is eating and taking his tablets. The main thing is there have been no seizures or twitches. He's still in intensive care and not sure how long he will need to remain there but things are looking so much more positive than a few days ago. Going to visit him again later this afternoon  :)
