Very sorry to hear this  :(  Sam was a lucky boy to have known such love, warmth and kindness in his final months

RIP Sam, safe and sound at the Bridge by now xx

The Greatest Gift

I always knew this time would come,
From the very instant our eyes first met.
How I loved you then! How I love you now!
I made a promise then, and I will keep that promise now...
You will not suffer from a pain that will not heal;
You will not know the loss of a life remembered, now gone.

It is for me alone to make this decision,
The price for the bright joy and pure laughter
You brought me during the time we shared.
I am the only one who can decide when it is time.
When my hope dies, and my fear rides high,
Just when I need you most, I must let you go.

It is for you alone to tell me when you are ready
For without your guidance, I will not know
When to lay my grief, my guilt, my anger
My sorrow and my selfish heart aside
And give you this last gift, this greatest gift.
Your eyes will speak to mine, and I will know.

The pain of this moment is excruciating.
Tears stream down my face in a river of sorrow.
And my heart drowns in a pool of grief.
For you have spoken and I have listened,
And unlike other decisions I have made
This one brings no relief...no comfort...no peace.

For if there´s one thing you´ve taught me,
If there´s only one thing I´ve learned...
Unconditional love has a condition after all,
I must be willing to let you go, when you speak to me
I must be willing to help you go, if you cannot go alone.
And I must accept my pain so you can be free of yours.

Go easily now, go quickly now,
Do not linger here, it is time for you to leave.
Go find your strength, go find your youth.
Go find the ones who've gone before you.
You are free to leave me now, free to let your spirit soar
Rest easy now, your pain will soon be gone.

I pray I will find comfort in my memories...
In the dark and lonely days ahead.
I cannot say I will not miss you, I cannot say I will not cry.
For only my tears can heal my broken heart.
But, I promise you this; as long as I live,
You will live, alive in my mind, forever in my heart.

So I give you this last gift, all I have left to give,
And this will be my greatest gift...sending you away.
It is the measure of my unconditional love...
For only the greatest love can say,
"Good-bye, go find the bridge, we'll meet again,
Loving you has been the greatest gift of all."

Forever and Always... Until Rainbow bridge....

I know it's hard for us, but it's so much better for them that we're with them at the end.

Yesterday I had to say a final goodbye to Sam my foster cat.He had kidney failure and we kept him comfortable for a few months with medications and all the love in the world. He sadly got so very poorly though and our vet said there was nothing more we could do. I was with Sam when he peacefully went to sleep , an experience I never want to have to do again or a decision have to make again.
Heres Sams story :

In the village where my nanna lived was a well known and friendly cat ,all black with yellow eyes that seemed to look right into yours in a knowing kind of way.
Lots of people fed this cat ,he would do his rounds and became a resident to the courtyard of bungalows where these people lived. No body thought he was a stray as he was seen coming and going for short periods out of one particular bungalow.
One day when it was very very cold I was visiting my nanna when I saw this cat all huddled up with ice on him. I went over and knocked on the door of this bungalow. I asked the elderly gentle man if this was his cat as he was very cold. I then learnt that he was not his cat ,the cat had been straying for 2 years or more ! he would let him in now and again but now as his eye sight was fading he dare not anymore in case he fell over him.
So it was then clear this poor cat had not had a loving owner for a very long time.
He walked funny ,one back leg all bent , he was clearly an old cat too. His eyes all gooey and crusty and very cold ,not so hungry but thin regardless.
I of course took him home with me into the care of our cat rescue group and he became resident in my home. Where he settled so well ,it was like he had always lived here. My dog and other cats had an immediate respect for him. There were no issues integrating him in at all. Nothing phased Sam ,no noises what so ever ,he loved everybody that came to visit and would always want to be sat on someones knee.
Sam had cat flu ,this quickly got better once he was warm and the vet had given him antibiotics. His wonky leg was most likely from a previous accident which had now got arthritis set into it.
He looked better but I soon noticed something else was not right and requested some blood tests to confirm my worry. Sadly he did have kidney failure.
He was put on medications which I had to hide inside roast chicken to get him to take. He was happy for a good couple of months ,loved the garden and gave us so much love and he got it back ,he was so special. So loyal ,always by my side like a dog would be.
He did however slowly begin to deteriorate to the point where he was suffering and a awful heartbreaking decision had to be made. Now he is at the rainbow bridge ,he is missed so much. I was so lucky to have known him ,if only for those few months.
Miss you Sammy boy xxx
