I was convinced when I saw you'd started this thread, Stuart, that's you'd crumbled and started breeding from Stretchy.

I think foster humans sometimes need to wipe the kittens' bums to simulate Mum's cleaning action and stimulate toileting. My vets nurses say they use a folded paper towel and just kind of jiggle around their bottoms then pop them onto the litter to get them going.

Thanks Kay, I did seem to remember mum licking bums to get the motion started for some reason  :evillaugh:
I was pretty sure it was mum cat who teaches em, and normally they like to do the toilet in shallow gravel or sand
I will pass on your info ;)

the only time I had a mum and kittens, mum licked their bums at first, and when they started to 'go' on their own they followed her example and went in the litter tray - all she has to do is provide a shallow tray for them and they'll do the rest

in fact, I seem to remember mum was the problem, as she used to scrape all the litter out of the tray :innocent:

Just had one of my friends ask me a question......
"jenna is asking when do u start training kitten to the litter tray they are only 2 weeks old just now"

erm I did not know the answer, and said that Mummy cat will teach them?? then I thought... I really don't know??
all the furkids I have had been using a litter tray by the time I got them

Just wondering, do any of you knowledgeable peeps have the answer??

I also told my pal to get Jenna to join Purrs ;)
