I only say that because he's been alone for a long time, and as far as I can tell they've made no effort up till now to find him, if they do come forward and take him back it'll be a very hard pill to swallow if they look as though they just sat back and waited for someone to do all the hard work for them.

The vets have just rung, they have found his owners details on the system and left a message for them, so it remains to be seen if it is the correct info and if they actually can be bothered to come forward, call me cruel but I kinda hope they dont

No fleas that they can see, but he IS microchipped but I'm not expecting the owners to rock up and claim him sadly.

And yep thats Portia, Misty is showing him her usual amount of distain she shows all cats haha

He's a boy, confirmed and she described him as "a bit rotund" lol

Don't forget your flea meds are much cheaper on line that from the vet, and usually arrive in 2 days. Try Animed Direct - free delivery.

I imagine Bruno will require a worming tablet - my vet charges £7 for a Milbemax which is a broad spectrum wormer and he pops it in there and then, saves me a job.

Take a note of Bruno's weight, especially if he's under 4kgs - this will help you order the right dose of meds on-line.

And now you have a history for him, you can tell the vet you've already adopted him as your own as he's been abandoned, there should be no issues over ownership so long as he's not microchipped.

How's he getting on with Portia have they made each other's acquaintance yet? I think he's adorable.

If you knew the area, and the people that inhabited that house, you'd be like me thinking "screw that, I'm not bothering to contact them". We reckon the house fire was a minimum of 2 years ago. The kids knew the lady by name and said "she left it behind". I asked them if she had been back for the cat and they said no.

Even if I managed to track her down I doubt he'd be getting a warm welcome. He's chosen me for a reason I reckon, he came and sat on my lap earlier and leant against my chest

Had to move the appointment for the vet to Wednesday due to work commitments but I'm adament he's staying, he chose us for a reason and although I'm not one to believe in fate I believe he chose us for a good reason.

I wonder if you could track her down via the police, she might have been too distressed to come back and look for him?
If she mentioned a cat to them in her victim report, they might have an address for her and be able to reunite them? Although, to be fair I wouldn't want to send him back to someone whose house has burnt down

Thank goodness you're there to pick him up and pop him back on his paws, Paul. I think you had a feeling about this one from the start didn't you.

According to a group of kids on the estate my little friend belonged to a woman who's house got burnt down over a year ago and she had to move away. Why she didn't come back for him I'll never know but at least I know who's he is now!

That's all for the help so far I really appreciate it! The little sod still wants to be in the house as he was meowing like a goodun earlier and I felt so sorry. Misty isn't impressed with him but to be fair she still only barely tolerates Portia lol

Bruno is looking more and more like he's moving in to your heart, if not quite yet into your home. The flea treatment wil have worked by now so it will be safe to bring him indoors when you're ready.

The vet not co-operating? Meaning they're gonna charge you for the check-up? If he is microchipped, they are obliged to report him to the microchip company and allow for the owner to be tracked down. Be ready for this, OK?

I've looked on the National Pet register for your general area and no-one has reported him missing. I'll check the other sites too for you as I'm a member on most of them. If there is no chip present, and you've advertised him locally for seven days, then you can take ownership of him as a stray.

Ask the vet if they participate in the RSPCA's C4 scheme which helps with neutering the stray population (unless he's already neutered?) and how to get a voucher in your area. Usually Cats Protection League will help out with vouchers for neutering strays so the vet should not charge you for his operation if he participates.

I've named him Bruno

He sees me and comes legging it full pelt up to me, but he's been sat outside our house for the last few nights crying

I've got an appointment for the vets booked for Tuesday but even then I've got to take time off work and they aren't being cooperative about it, gits.

In the meantime I've come up with something better than him sleeping in our hedge, he seems to have taken to it!
