Gill sending all our best for Miss Fifi - I know when I posted a photo of Billie Jo folks recoiled it does look worse than it is just takes time to heal I think as they don't have a lot of fat on their faces takes time for the thin bits to healxx

He must be around 70 I would say .
He is very up to date as if Fifi had got cystitis again he had a new treatment in he was going to try , touch wood she has been ok for a while now.

So he is in his mid 70s then?

The point is, how up to date is he with new treatments and its never to late to ask.

He is a fantastic vet and has been for over 50 years.
I think it's just her age and getting the abscess hasn't helped . One has fallen off today , hope just another one forms . She is back on Tuesday with Winston to,get his blood pressure checked as it was the same last time , so he is on a quarter of a tablet now.

It could be her immune system is a bit compromised, and her age wont be helping but I agree it should be doing better.

Your vet needs to be very good and know what he is talking about and if he isnt sure needs to get in touch with Bristol or one of the big experts and possibly forward you on as an emergency.

Well, Fifi has two very big scabs now about to drop off very soon . It looks very raw underneath and there is still a  large hole and I still think you can also see her cheek bone again  :scared:
It seems to be taking forever to heal properly , I am glad she has to go back on Tuesday again  to let the vet see how its going . I am sure the scabs will be off by then .
I know he said it would look raw , but didn't think it would look as  bad this time  :-:.
I really wish it would heal up properly  :(

Been back to the vet today as I am not happy with the abscess .
She has got to go back tomorrow and be put under again, stitches removed and the abscess all flushed out and you can see her cheek bone , so he is going to try and sort the mess out . Says he hasn't seen one go like this before and healing takes linger because of her age .
Poor Fifi isn't half going through it  :(

Also penicillin injection .
She has now had some chicken and is sat in the window.poor girl is going through it  >:(

Fifi seems to be doing well , she has been in the garden for a bit today and has eaten quite well . I am surprised how she is to be honest , it doesn't seem to have bothered her at all ! Better than I would have been if it was me having my eye out !

Well Fifi is home and eaten two bowls of ham and sat in the window !
She doesn't seem as bad as she actually looks , but saying that , when the stitches are out and fur grown back you won't be able to tell , he has done a really good job .
She hasn't got a collar on either .
She is back on Friday evening for another antibiotic injection as you can't give her tablets and he will see how its healing too , that will see her over the bank holiday .
Now got to get some stuff sold to pay the bill , which wasn't as bad as expected luckily enough .

Just wanted to say best wishes for tomorrow. My parents cat had to have her eye out because of an ulcer, she was 17 when she had the operation so it was a difficult decision. Anyway she was fine and coped very well.

I guess it's depending on what's caused it - does the vet know? If the cause is still there (something stuck under eyelid, dry eye, eyelid folded so lashes touching the eye etc) then it won't heal.

I don't know how similar cats eye biology is to bunnies, but one of my bunnies had an ulcer due to a hay seed in the eye, it was quite nasty at first and after a few weeks with fucithalmic it wasn't really healing...so we swapped to ciloxan and it healed within a week.

Another of my bunnies suffers from dry eye and before that was diagnosed it was there for about 8 weeks with my vet desperately trying everything.  When this bunny went to see an ophthalmic specialist he put her on dry eye treatment as well as different eye drops and again it cleared up within a fortnight.  Corneal cells apparently regenerate quite quickly, within a week or so for surface type ulcers in bunnies, I wouldn't have thought it was hugely different in cats.

The only other thing I would say is that pain relief is important - eye ulcers are supposed to be incredibly painful and will make the animal feel very poorly.

Good luck, hope yours gets under control easily x x

Sending Hugs for Fifi and her Mum

Take her back to the vet having been through this with Billie Jo in the last 7 weeks and hers would not heal for love nor money or 4 different lots of cream and drops and she ended up getting her eye removed as she was in pain and even the eye specialist said it was better out than in and what a difference to my little girl no more nasty eye and she is all healed up and has adapted very easily and is in no more pain pr cowering every time we went near her

Just wondered how long they take to heal ?
Took her last week with Winston and all his health problems as I knew she had a bad eye and the fucithelmic cream didn't seem to be helping , given her some clear drops now , but been nearly a week and cant see any difference .
It looks quite bad , so will ring the vet tomorrow and see what he says .
Please send some healing vibes for my poor old girl if you can -thankyou .
