YESYESYEYS

Penny has a new home.
she came here last christmas eve and is now happily in a new home.   ;D

thank you to all of you who wished her well.

A couple who had seen Penny in the paper came to meet her, they were happy that she may take a long time to come round and they both seemed really nice and just the quiet, patient home she needed. i went round to give here her zyclene ( i wasn't stalking penny honest!) and in the two days she had been there she had been coming out of her bed and positioning herself under a dining chair where she could watch what was happening.

we are all so happy to finally get Penny out of here.

We are doing a press release for Penny - hopefully it will bring her person to us. Attached portrait too

"Picture purrfect but still no home for Penny

Three year old Penny has spent the last 12 months in care at Haworth Cat
Rescue after her owner died.

This dainty domestic shorthair is now the shelter's longest resident -
arriving traumatised and frightened just before Christmas in 2011.

"As soon as she arrived, Penny hid away in a tiny corner where she felt no
one could hurt her. It was heartbreaking to see her so frightened," said
rescue founder, Sara Atkinson. "After a while we decided that it would take
more than the average amount of care and attention to bring Penny around and
so we put her through our cat whispering programme. With great effort and
time she became more confident and even started to let us to give her a
gentle stroke."

Although still a little shy, staff at the rescue are confident that, with
the patience of an experienced owner, Penny will make a loving companion.

"Penny needs a home where she is the only cat. She isn't very comfortable
around dogs or children which is why we have found it so difficult to find
her a new home," said Sam, shelter manager at Haworth Cat Rescue. "To start
with, Penny will need a few quiet weeks to find her feet and that is why we
are looking for someone who has a lot of patience and a big heart for out
little girl. The best present for everyone here at the rescue would be to
see her in a loving home in time for Christmas."
A forever home is all any rescue cat wants but for Penny that dream has
proved elusive. "Anyone adopting a cat from a rescue can be sure to have
made a huge difference to their lives. But for Penny, having a home to call
her own would be something truly special. Spending a whole year in a rescue
isn't good for any cat but it has been a particularly long time for our poor
Penny who just dreams of a quiet spot on a cosy sofa," said Sara.

Haworth Cat Rescue has had a portrait commissioned of Penny to try and bring
out her true, gentle personality. Along with a very grateful cat, her new
owner will receive the portrait to keep."

she hides like that a lot of the time. she is actually better as previously she would always cover herself with a blanket aswell and it was better for her in the summer as she would sit out in the pen more.

we are planning an article for her. the local paper wants something about a christmas cat later in the year, so if she is still here we will feature Penny as she came here last christmas. i have never known a cat be here for this long - to put it in perspective the average time for cats to be in the shelter is 6 weeks.

Hi yes she is lovely !!  :) THANKYOU for the interest. we are worried about her going to a home with other cats as she copes so terribly with stress and she so easily slips into her hiding habit. Unrelatred adult females can have 'whose the boss' issues so we would not home her to a home with another adult female. Homing to a home with male cats we would consider especially as she has been here so long.

She has been seen out the last two days so she was stalked by a camera and we have put an album of her onto facebook. Its only now that we have noticed that spending all your waking time motionless in a bed ..or eating can make you a bit (ahem) plump

Just so you know, SamMewl, I tried the Felifriend spray with little Kitty, she hated it and attacked anything it was sprayed on. Including my slippers.

It is said that some cats that react badly when confronted with Felifriend have had bad experiences with their mothers. Apparently this is the feromone contained in felifriend spray. As none of us know the history of our rescue cats it's possible she may react either way.

Since she left us, my slippers continue to be an attack target for my next door neighbour's cat. Just so's you know.  :-:

Thanks tiggy's mum, yes please get Penny on the front page  :)

She is hiding again today and hasn't been eating her wet food so hasn't been getting the zyklene. Its always difficult to know what is causing what but it could mean it is that, that has been helping her. The problem with using plug ins, is that in summer we have the pen doors open to air the pen so the diffuser isn't really going to be effective, i will try again with the spray though.

Thanks for your support  :)

Very pleased that she seems to have turned a corner somewhat, you'd still be welcome to have Penny featured on the front page news box if you wanted to  :)

I know Liz is a big fan of Zyklene and as she often deals with ferals it really seems to help the more nervous cat. If there's a socket available near her pen you could also try a feliway plug in.

What a beautiful girl, if only she could learn to love again  :(

I have just reminded myself that we used to have 2 or 3 'harder to home' cats on the newbox on the front page of Purrs - would you like Penny to be one of them?

two days ago I was going to say absolutely yes please but.... Penny seems to be coming round  :wow:

one of our volunteers has taken her under her wing and has been reading to her (how to train a sheep dog  :-:) We have also put her on zyclene for a week and yesterday she spent the whole day out in her ouside run, with the volunteer sitting with her  ;D

I'll let you know how it goes.

So very sad, do you think that she is grieving and needs a person to love her?

I took on a 7yr old and its taken 7 years for her to allow me to stroke her but she still runs away from closed doors or feet .

She came to us after her owner had died and has hid ever since. She has been here much longer than even our grumpy, older cats do. Although for some of that she was fostered in a home while we tried to work on her confidence. I don't know why she has withdrawn so much from the world but she has made a habit of it. We have had people sit with her but she does not  respond positively.

She is overlooked because she NEVER comes out to see anyone who is looking for a cat. I have had two people looking for cats that were difficult, that have been here the longest, in both cases they didn't give Penny a second glance, in both instances she was just a nose under a blanket.

When I get to see her out and about at tea time when its quiet her she will blink at me as long as i don't come into her pen. We really need somone who wants to take on a challenge that i am sure will turn out to be so rewarding when she starts to trust someone.

She is about 2 years old.

Penny - HOMED
« Reply #1 on: July 20, 2012, 09:29:37 AM »
This is our Penny, who unfortunately is still in need of an experienced cat owner to give her a forever home.

Penny is our longest resident, having been with us since just before Christmas 2011. She was very traumatised on arrival and hid in the smallest possible place - very uncomfortable for her. After a short period we decided to put her through our "cat whispering" process and although initially she continued to hide, as time went on she became more confident, and allowed herself to be stroked. She enjoyed the cat treats which form a part of our whispering process!.

She will need a quiet home with no other pets or children where she will be left alone for the first few weeks. Once settled, we strongly believe she will make somebody a lovely companion. With any rescue cat you make a huge difference to them by giving them a forever home, by adopting Penny the difference will be more marked because of her special need to be in a home. While we make a special effort to make sure all of our cats are interacted with, some cats don't suit a rescue situation, and Penny is one of them.
