Her lip is back to normal today. It was never open or anything just swollen. I have always had the plastic bowls but have got two nice ceramic ones today for both of them.
Callies says thanks for the good wishes :)

This sounds very much like a rodent ulcer, they often mirror each other so best to keep eyes open. Steroid usually clears them until next time.
Sheila your Eisino fingy is a posh name for this or granulomas all caused by autu immune problem.

If she's eating from plastic bowls, it may be worth swapping for ceramic or stainless steel. Plastic can sometimes be an irritant in itself, even if they are boiled clean every day plastic may still create problems for sensitive mouths. I think you did right getting her straight back on her normal food, it may have been something in the new stuff that didn't agree with her.

Not heard of the Eosino.. thingy  :shify:

The little blue ceramic bowls are on offer at Zooplus at the moment, I got a couple with my last order and they're very nice.

Hope she continues to improve, Souffle.  :)

They said it could be anything at all - having read up on it it seems she has an Eosinophilic granuloma and this could recur throughout her life. It could even be seasonal and an allergy to something like pollen. I did use some different food as there was none of their usual left recently so I have started her back on the usual right away in case it is that. It looks to have gone down a bit tonight already so fingers crossed.

When they said allergic reaction did they mean that she has been sting and was allergic to the sting or do they think she's allergic to something else?

Thank you everyone.
We took Callie to the vet and it turns out to be some sort of allergic reaction. The vet says it is quite common and will normally go away on it's own and it isn't bothering her at all however she has had an injection and we are to see if this makes it go down.
She really isn't fussed at all about it and is acting quite her usual self. She just looks like she is wearing lipstick!

Hello,

My lad Tazi did the exact same thing aged less than 1year and got a lovely swollen bottom lip and chin...earning him the name Man-chin. I took him to the vet, with it being his chin (worried about the throat closing) and he was fine and after a couple of days it went back to its normal size - which really saved me from having to choose a name for it

only difference was he was stung by a wasp, which generally takes the stinger (is that the name?? i dont even know lol) with it. A bee generally leaves it behind - so based on this if miss kissy-lips is no different after a few days maybe a trip to make sure the "stinger" isnt causing infection etc? (this is just a guess and in no way medical or even verified advise lol)

When Riley has been stung (only on the foot though, not the lip) it has swollen to double the size and has almost returned to normal within 24 hours so if her lip is still swollen after two days it might not be a sting.

My vet advised the dosage for Piriton was half a tab (therefore 2mg) per adult cat so if you're convinced it's a sting you could give them a ring to confirm its OK to try her on it.

I know folk on here have given 1/4 or 1/2 tablet of Piriton for bee stings. Haven't tried it myself but here's the thread.

Callie has a swollen lower lip
For the past two days Callie has had a swollen lower lip. It looks quite pink and puffed out so she looks as if she is pouting. It doesn't seem to be bothering her and she isn't scratching it or anything. I had a feel of it and it doesn't seem like a blister but just swollen.
I think she may have been stung while chasing bees. It isn't stopping her eating and she is behaving pretty normally.
Anyone have any ideas? If it is a sting is there anything we can give her? I don't want to rush to the vets but obviously will take her in if it it gets worse or doesn't resolve.
Poor Callie has now earned the name of Miss Kissy Lips!
