Hopefully he will be OK now

It does make me angry when peeps are told to with hold food from 1800 as this really is not necessary.

To Update - Slushy had a UTI, has had antibiotics and a week later (today) has been in and had his err "snip".

Got him back at 2pm today (dropped him off this am) .. he is very loving atm.  They have provided a tin of food for him for tonight which he has actually had a little bit of lol.

He was a nightmare last night, he could not eat after 6pm last night, so we have felt totally dreadful denying him food lol

Anyway, just thought I would let you guys know.

Thanks Souffle & Dawn :)

I guess have been lucky to have lasted this long and it seems to have settled down again.  They have been sniffing around the areas now cleaned but so far no more spraying.  They will of course be still getting the snip lol.  Think the pre op thing is purely based around the problems previously with Gizmo and whether or not Slushy has a UTI or something.

If there is a fee then hoping it's just the usual consultation fee at most.

Souffle -  love the "old peas podded" way of describing the snip :)

I agree that you have been lucky not to have had spraying before, things will settle down once they are sorted I'm sure, never had to have a pre op either, I hope vet doesn't charge for it, seems a bit cheeky

I've used feliway in the fast to integrate a bit of a madam into my group, didn't really noticed it working until it ran out!  so you I do believe it works, I used to get  mine off amazong but know there are other threads about it so might be worth doing a search

At over a year you have been lucky to get away with no spraying so far  :innocent:
Our boys have all been done by 6 months so they don't get a start at it! The hormones will be making them mark on top of each other and creating disharmony with the pair. I've never had a pre op! We just book them in and snip snip. I suppose it must be done on the day and if anything was amiss they wouldn't go ahead. Hope all goes well next week. Make it Monday! Vet's don't normally ask you to pay till the final check out.
I haven't used the Feliway but I have heard it is good. It varies in price around the web but I think your problems might go once the old peas are podded!

Heather - Thanks for that, much appreciated :)

Souffle - I agree neutering is getting an ASAP thing.  They maybe able to smell local queens I guess (sure queens is the right word) and yeah it does stink to high heaven.  They are literally 1 year old this month, so highly sexually mature.  Just picked up some mix to your own preference odour remover that guarantees success, so least money back if it does not.

Well the actual Op is not going to be sooner purely down to my own finances tbh, so they get the pre-op on Friday (which obviously costs) then the Op next week when I get paid if that makes sense.  I have started them on a biscuit food that specialises in Urinary health so hopefully that will help any problem while I wait to get the beads and see the results of that.

Pleased you mention Feliway as I was going ask if the plug in actually does work .. so does it?

Many thanks all you guys, really appreciating the support received here :) :) xx

It sounds to me like they need neutered as soon as possible as they may well be reaching maturity and this is causing them to start spray marking their territory. Perhaps they smell a female in heat in the area? Tom cat spray stinks to high heaven and they are likely revelling in their new found ability! What age are they? I'd put my bets on this. They can keep doing it after neutering if they get into the habit so maybe the vet would do the op sooner?
It is easy to get the sample with the beads as long as you watch them and ensure you get in there quickly before they paddle around! There are not many beads so don't be shocked when you get a tiny bag! Hope the urine is clear and the op goes ahead soon.
Maybe some Feliway would help the dominance issues between the boys and the neutering should also help.

I had to do one for my cat a while ago, they are like clear plastic tiny beads, you replace the cat litter with them, have to clean the litter tray well before you put them in and they give you a syringe and a little sample pot. The beads don’t absorb the tiddle so you can just syringe up a sample and take it to the vet asap! :)

Thanks Gill - Have spoke to the vets, apparently they give you (well cost £3) beads or something to go in the litter tray in order to recover a sample, sound right?

Also, how does that work (will ask tomorrow when I pick them up anyway) does it replace all of the litter in the tray or something?

They have been booked in for a pre op check up on Friday with view to them both getting the snip next week (hence getting these beads for a sample hopefully day of check up).  Least I feel like I'm doing the right thing and best I can atm :)

Cheers guys

You can wash with Bio washing stuff to get the smell out but agree with others that this could be a urinary infection and he may need abs.

Hi Thanks for the replies.

Rosella - I will certainly contact the vet about it tomorrow and try and get a test kit.  Obviously I would prefer to know he's in full health as such.

Heather - The toaster that's nasty lol

Have found another spray site, bottom of curtains .. and now I'm out of pet odour cleaner stuff.  All very frustrating .. the living room now smells like their toilet :(
This is the 4th area I have found just today .. surely that's not right?

Thanks again

could be a urine infection, so best to get checked out. One of my sisters cats last year had a habit of peeing in her toaster  still cant work out how she managed to aim in it :wow:

I would pop along to vet tomorrow and pick up a urine testing kit and get a fresh urine sample from Slushy to vet as quick as possible.

I assume it will be best to ensure slushy is fully fit prior to his operation next week.

Soiling advice needed :(
« Reply #1 on: April 16, 2012, 19:49:46 PM »
Hi,

As some maybe aware I have 2 cats, Slushy and Gizmo.  We have had some issues with Gizmo's health but that all seems to be resolved now.

However yesterday one of the cats had sprayed on a rug in the bedroom (assuming sprayed as the area was not especially wet) which was not seen but certainly smelt.  I cleaned the area.  However today whilst me and the missus were in the bedroom, Slushy came in and proceeded to full urinate in one of Mrs. Redfan's shoes that was in the room.

Obviously this has worried me considerably.  Also, I have this evening found 2 sites that appear to be on the carpet in the living room (assuming spraying as not especially wet, also assuming given the smell they are pretty recent).  I have washed these areas.

Any ideas why this is suddenly happening?  I have read some of the guides here and I do believe that the problem may well relate to previously (in other thread) mentioned behaviour problems regarding Slushy dominating Gizmo.

We have no idea which one is doing the spraying or whether its both of them.  They are both using the tray without issue, though Slushy has been urinating 1 small amount and then 2 mins later going back and urinating a large amount (all in tray).

Could this pretty much be down to the behaviour / Sexual territory issues? and if so will the Neutering correct it? (Slushy is booked in for end of next week)  In the mean time, any advice on how we can go forward as this is becoming a real issue for us :(

Many thanks :)
