If you get the new pet door then yes they should.  The new doors have a far greater improved scope and work with all microchips according to the booklet.

Oooh this is interesting, Geoffrey is around 7kg so won't fit through the smaller sureflap but he probably will fit through this larger one.

Does anyone know if they work with the biotherm chips?  I know some of the microchip catflaps don't  :scared:

I sympathise Stuart - this could turn out to be The Winter of the Great Cat Flap disaster for us - we bought the smaller sure flap which was too small for him so was "donated" to Dickie' s mum and dad, then we bought the larger flap which is due to be fitted to our new front door, relying on the door people to manufacture our choice of door with appropriate flap shaped hole, and am not convinced . . . .

Still opening the door for Robbie if we are around, He'll wait till we open it for Him
other than that, He still squeezes himself through if no one is around  :evillaugh:

But I have a vision, one of which I fork out £100 for a new larger flap and He'll still sit there waiting for us to open the door  :tired:

Hope it works out for you; this is the first reference I have seen to their bigger pet door and while it sounds nice it isn't in the same league as my (fully manual) Ferplast Swing 11 - which with 3 MCs is about the right size. Oh, roll on the next size up :)

Retail price seems to be anywhere upwards of £110.00 plus P + P.  I didn't pay the lowest price, but I will admit the delivery was first rate.

For anyone who may be following this thread and looking for an update, the larger sureflap door size is 7 inches by 6.69 inches or for those working in new money, 178mm x 170mm.

That's the aperture.

The cut out for the door is 8.14 inches by 9.2 inches (9.2 inches relates to the height of the flap, not the width) or 27 cm  by 23.4 centimetres.

The pet door (as opposed to the smaller cat door) also now comes with a curfew mode, whereby you can set what time you want the flap to lock and unlock.

Now just hoping a)  Ross will take to using the new flap (tap, tap)  b) that his microchip hasn't migrated to an inconvenient shoulder position and c) that we can get this put into the door we want.

I'll keep this updated if I can......

Hi all, have been reading all the posts and can't offer any help as such re the sizes of microchip cat flaps.  However had to comment on the sureflap customer service.  All the people who have had bad experiences must be unlucky because I got one installed a few months ago.  No matter how much I tried to tempt my 7 month old kitten charlie through it he wouldn't use it unless I propped it open.  The problem with that was since being neutered he has become the focus of two un-neutered toms from across the road and was being bullied incessantly.  One even chased him through into my lounge whilst I was there - I was a nervous wreck constantly at the window looking out for him.  Anyway, long story but I found that Charlie just could not get used to the strength of the magnet and that was putting him off.  I emailed customer service to see if there was anything they could do and within two days they got in touch to say they had spoken to the designers and they were going to design me a new front with a weak magnet free of charge!  It arrived two weeks later and after a few days Charlie is happily using it and I have gradually found myself less drawn to the window!!

I would be tempted to go to the Sureflap site and email them................I really dont trust them and although that size sounds much better I also wonder what other changes they have put in!

I rang them and was given made up info as I was on the FB site and that Charlotte was so insistant last Sep about the measurements, I think it would be good to get it from the horses mouth and also when its really going to be released for sale.

It seems that the emails go to head office but when you ring them you get some site opo!

Just Got another message from the Sureflap Facebook page
I'd asked what size was the actual Cat flap of the new one??

The flap opening will be 195mm (H) x 178mm (W). I hope that helps.

Sooooo, this sounds a whole lot better, Just measured my Current Flap and it is 140mm x 140mm

so that means it will be 55mm higher and 38mm wider, sounds good to me ;D

Yeah JS, It's a bit annoying, Unfortunately Robbie the stretcher is quite couthy 8) and doesn't bat an eyelid
Although He did Hiss at the Ginger Ninja when it was Trapped in the Kitchen, but that would mainly be due
to the fact that Ginger Cat could not get out, and Kinda reminded me of a Frightened Bull in a China shop
Running around daft and Jumping about, I just Calmly went over and opened the door, In his panicked state
He was still trying to get out of the Cat Flap, I have seen this Cat Before, well.. over a year really, it frequents
the Garden a lot, I think it stay's across the road, but not sure??
But It is one of those Furbabes that Just Stares / Glowers at you, and the moment you take one step closer It's OFF !!
It was in the Garden Last Night, sitting beside the Old Shed, as soon as our eye's Met, it Scampered off  :scared:

On a Brighter note, Robbie the Stretch actually used the Cat Flap to come in, so it's good to know He will Squeeze
through it if He must :innocent: still insist's on the door being opened for him tho

Hope you both find a cat flap that's right soon - I know how you feel Stuart, because our intruder was Ginger Cat too. Big bully who would come in and I'd find him guarding the bowls from our cats so they couldn't eat! That, or he'd just go down the line eating all the food. Drove me spare, and the owner refused to fit a cat flap or supply a shelter for his cat.... >:(

Actually, could hear a noise yesterday and realisation clicked in it was a cat - said Ginger Cat was sat at the cat flap repeatedly hitting it because he couldn't get in and Darwin was using some rather ungentlemanly language while puffing himself up to three times his size inside the house....

Yes and sounds like you have one too.

I cant remember the settings now but I wanted a cat to be able to go out if chipped and come back in but not to let Lupin out cos his chip not registered.

Howewver on the petporte something is stopping it closing fully so before I can use it I need to find out why cos Lupin will be out like a shot and also worried about the speed cos one could leave closely behind the registered one.

I just got so fed up of the makers of both of these cos they just havent done their research properly.

I dont know if my cats are thick lol but although Misa and Sasa used the flap in the back door all the time it took Misa months to use the flap I put in the shed door and both would only use if it was propped open.

Misa then started using this just before I caught Sasa but now I allow him out for little bit during the day, he goes up to it looks and doesnt seem to know how to open it! Its exactly the same as his normal one just in a different door and although he knows he cant get in at the normal one he still tries from outside!

quite a conundrum you have Gill
I too wouldn't be bothered so Much about Microchip activated ones, but there is a Large Ginger Ninja
that is pretty Brass necked, and has No qualms about coming into the house to eat ALL the Free food  :shify:
and you should have seen the look on His Face when He came in for a free Lunch, Heard me coming downstairs
and tried to get back out, unbeknowest to Him, I had Locked the Flap thinking that nothing could get in or out
thats how I discovered that the Lock only stops em gettin out

Afraid I hit all the same barriers as you, bought a sureflap but it was just too small for misa. put in the old style petporte and misa wouldnt use it and he started using it about a week before I trapped Sasa in the house and now on hold until I decide what I am going to do in April..............likely it will have to come back into service to stop Lupin going out by himself.

The current petporte is about the same size as the sureflap, the good thing is it works on power not batteries but for me the bad thing was it has a restricted opening time torteget your cat logged on......I wanted it for Sasa!

The other bad thing apart from it being so small is the sticky out roof thing and one constantly bumps against it.

The former version of this which someone kindly gave me is the size of Misas normal catemate flap and why they made them smaller is beyond  me!

Right now Sureflap and petporte are the only microchip readers and the Sureflap is so easy to install unlike the Petporte and its a great design but just too bloomin small for big cats!. Well both are too small!

Easy to fit: The PetPorte Smart Flap conveniently fits all
common glass and door cat flap size openings
(17cm square or 21cm diameter holes).

there are two sizes available ?? gonna check  ;)

then again, I don't like the sticky out bit on em

there's just no pleasing some folk  :evillaugh:

Oh hold on, just read this bit
Door aperture: 160mm wide x 160mm high  :(

This link is a small dog flap with 4 settings and have seen a small Jack Russell use it and he weighs in at 8kgs

Reasonable price to

Sometimes it pays to think outside the cat world I have friends with small dogs who have a selection of these in various positions in windows and doors and all have reasonably good reports

Sorry 25cms is huge lol......about 10 inches

the right size for Misa is approx 7x7 inches which is about 18 x18 cms

I am sure what they are putting out is not a bigger cat flap but a dog flap and not for small dogs either LOL

I was fobbed off online and also when I rang them, which is why I emailed.

I had two seperate enquiries and on one I was just lied to, and this Charlotte who was at head office said she would sort out the lying one!

Seems that they just make things up as they go along on the whole.

I think yoy would need to measure the inner door of your current flap cos 25cms is not very big and suspect your current flap will not be much off this figue. I will go measure my flap that is right size for Misa

25cm across is a wee bit better, but the Height??

I wonder if that is the overall size?? meaning the frame aswell ??

25cm x 25cm would be spot on  ;)
Or the other alternative would be to Put Robbie stretch on a diet  :evillaugh:

Here are emails and the width is also huge!

Hi Gill

Thanks for getting back in touch – I’m really sorry but the launch date for our larger SureFlap has been pushed back until March time next year.  I do apologise about this, we are now incorporating a few more features into the design which is going to take slightly longer to make it perfect!

However I do have the product dimensions which are 389mm high and 250mm wide.

Please accept our apologies for the delay once again.

Many thanks for your continued interest,

Charlotte

Hi Charlotte

I am so disappointed because I just cant wait until next March, am in real difficilties now and have been for last two months, trying to keep one cat in and the others all in and out.

I dont know if there is a typo in your email on the height cos that high doesnt seem to make sense against the width.

Gill

Hi Gill

There was no typo made on the dimensions given below, its 25cm wide by 38.9 cm high.

Apologies we couldn't help you sooner

Thanks
Charlotte

Yes Stuart and the other measurement was not much bigger than the current oone.

I will try and find the emails cos queried that size as a typo and  the woman from head office told me it was right!

Here is the response i got from sureflap Facebook page

Hi Stuart. Sorry to hear that your new cat is too large for your existing SureFlap! The larger SureFlap should be available April/May sort of time. If you would like to be notified as soon as it is available please email enquiries@sureflap.co.uk. We will be emailing everyone that is interested in the larger flap as soon as it is available! We have actually made half white half brown units for people that have requested them in the standard size. In the first instance, our larger flap will only be available in white, but a brown one will be in production a couple of months after. We could do a larger one for you white inside, brown outside but you would need to wait a bit longer for this. We could probably do this for you around the end of summer if you would be happy to wait an extra couple of months.

so still a wee bit to wait yet  :tired:

Are you sure it said 37cm Gill?? That's 370 millimeters , Probably more than half the width of the door

Currently the 2 makers of these sort of flaps do not make anything larger and Sureflaps new one was due out last autumn and then they moved it to Spring.

Somewhere I have the emails from them that say that the flap will be 37cms on longest side!

That flap will be too small for him Stuart, I bought one and its too small for Misa who was 6.5 kgs.

We tried at the vet and he could litterally just squeeze through it but doesnt give any room for misjudgement or increase in size. The problem is that it is slightly smaller in one direction so there is no room for expansion as they go through and its such a tight fit its scarey for them.

I was in correspondence with the company and the larger one they claim to be making is the size for a large dog and would take out half your door...........I queried the measurement being a typo but they told me it wasnt.

I just dont underestand why they dont make a flap for a large cat like cat mate do but seems to beyond the manufactors understanding that all cats are not kitten size.

Have you tried phoning the company?  See this link.....

Quote - "The SureFlap Microchip Cat Flap is currently only available in one size. The SureFlap Microchip Cat Flap is suitable for the vast majority of cats, however some large breeds of cat, such as Maine Coon may have difficulty using it.  We are currently developing a larger version of the SureFlap Microchip Cat Flap which should be available in the first part of 2012"

I'm afraid I think he may be playing you up too though.  Our lot still try that trick on occasion.  I decided to ignore young Bobby though and not give in.  He doesn't wait for me to lift it now   :sneaky:

No idea about flap sizes but if he's been using it in the recent past makes me wonder if you're being played! :shify:

I currently have a Sureflap Microchip Cat Flap fitted, But Robbie the Stretch has started not using it??
He now just sit's by the door and wait's till a nearby slave opens the door, It's the same with coming in
Now starting to think He is maybe too Large for it ?? he weighs 6.9, and as the vet said, with Him Being
Neutered late, He is slightly on the Large side, either that or His Protruding Rib is giving him jib as it would
Probably rub against the cat flap as he is coming or going, Not really seen Him use it for a couple of days now
Or could it be that He is Just making His Slaves work a wee bit harder for Him ??

any suggestions appreciated  ;)
