Just like to point out the ASSISI,where the dogs from NI came from, operate a 'no kill' policy, they are swamped with animals at the moment,of all types.

BTW,Now I'm not working due to my heart condition,I'm thinking of volenteering there for a couple afternoons a week to get me outta the house!

All in all I thought the programme was pretty good - thank you Mervyn for alerting us to it or I would have missed it

I understand the "doggy-ness" there is a huge problem with Staffies atm and I guess they are trying to highlight the problem I just felt the whole programme was a bit "wet" .

Yep the Staffy issue is probably the biggest one facing animal welfare at the moment really so I can understand the focus on it (haven't watched it yet - plan to do so once I've fed the zoo here). I spend far too long looking around rescue pages when avoiding work - and our local dog "rescue" that takes the strays from the dog wardens (at least we have a no-kill pound system round here) was JAMMED with Staffies when we got our first dog from there - he was one of the few non-Staffies in there. It's absolutely insane - and the breed's reputation is worsening by the day (we didn't want any form of terrier breed which is why we disregarded them) fed by the media frenzy demonising them, and walking dogs - I've seen some utterly ridiculous reactions toward Staffy owners (99% of them are cracking dogs just a bit too in your face and boisterous for my liking) - I've seen them yelled at for having devil dogs, told they should get out of public places, told they should have their dogs put to sleep... who would willingly go into homing an animal and getting that form of abuse day in, day out.... heck it's bad enough with my collie cross and some of the comments you get sometimes (gawd knows what I'll get when I'm walking a greyhound with a muzzle that obviously makes it into an immediate Hannibal Lecter - and the muzzle is purely for the safety of small furries until I get to know the dog!).

I think part of the issue with cats is that they're smaller, more self-reliant so the stray problem can stay hidden at least a little bit more - and they're smaller, so people tend to be able to take on more of them themselves in small individual-based rescue operations running from houses and whatever whereas dogs are larger and more noisy and therefore a much more visible problem for the media to latch onto - I've probably not phrased that very well but hopefully you get my line of logic... people notice a stray dog raking their streets much more easily than a stray cat mooching along the wall - they probably assume the cat belongs to someone and is just out for their mid-afternoon prowl.

It was all 'dog sided'...no mention of small animals, cats which I'm sure are in greater number's than dogs due to the popularity of Kittens.

So bascially the only thing she wants to change is to introduce compulsory neutering of Staffies!  TBH I think the organisation needs a new chief exec ... she seemed ineffectual and not really with it.  Such a shame as the blue cross is a good organisation that does wonderful work.

I'm actually appalled that the boss of the organisation appears to be oblivious to the Staffy problem.  In fact she seems to be fairly oblivious to most things!!!!

I noticed that myself...She didn't have a clue how dedicated her staff & volenteers are, like the 75 year old who pays for things out of his own pocket.

The RSPCA wouldn't get involved in this type of programme .... as far as they are concerned they do nothing wrong and don't need improving.

Hopefully the Blue Cross will gain some much needed publicity from this.

Judging by the previews, the boss was in tears at times. Although one wonders why they chose the Blue Cross & not the RSPCA?...Too much work to put that right maybe?...

Should be good.  I hope they are able to turn the blue cross round cuz I think they are are a good organisation that has lost their way a bit.
