Oh bless him, the poor little man. It's a good job the family surrendered him. It sounds as though he'll get all the care he needs now, but how dare his former, so-called "loving owners" let him get into a state like that. Thanks for the update.

Most recent update on Cat Chat:

Report from Beau: Lovely temperament, FIV/FELV negative, great so far. Progress has been a mixed bag, an angel with his injections (low dose at present) but not so easy on the food front (very frustrating as we have tried everything but cr** food). His diabetic food order is in today so fingers crossed.
Unfortunately, his really bad teeth certainly have something to do with poor eating, along with his past diet no doubt, but nothing can be done until we know where are with the glucose levels and his vaccs are complete too (he has had his first). Vet reckons all bar front 4 teeth need to be removed and gingivitis needs treating. For once, I think he is too frugal with the suggested extractions. The dental is now top priority after regulating insulin dose.

His skin and fur condition are also poor but improving markedly with daily grooming; I suspect the shedding has to do with his overall state of health and should improve once everything else falls into place and he gets the right food in him.

I do agree. Sorry, I should have thought of that. I have called a couple of rescues but so far no one has been able to help. I emailed the owner as well, but haven't had any response.

Dependant on how much insulin is required rough costs for insulin and needles is approx £30.00 a month - we have had a normal diabetic and a feral diabetic here

Once stabilised and the times set for injections it is easy peasy - our feral boy was home at 7pm every night for his extra food and injection

Yes, it is expensive to care for a diabetic cat. One of our 4 is a diabetic. I was wondering if some sort of sponsorship could be set up with a fosterer perhaps. I'd be willing to dip in my pocket.

See, if he'd come along a couple of years earlier, my set up would've been perfect. I work from home and have my cats at my feet all the live long day, whether I like it or not!

If there is someone who could take him on a more permanent basis I could possibly him temporarily, as a last resort. My problem is that I already have four cats in a rented flat, so I can't take on another long-term puss, but at least he would fed, watered, warm, medicated and alive here! But it would have to be for about a week, tops, else my flatmate will kill me. I'm in SE London.

There's a "free to good home" cat on one of the free advertising websites (I don't know how much I'm allowed to say) who is diabetic and apparently in danger of being put to sleep. I'm not really in a position to help, but thought I'd say something here in case anyone else could help the little guy. I know a black, diabetic cat isn't going to be the easiest to home, but I feel so sorry for the poor mite. PM me if you want me to put you in the right direction for the advert.
