My local cat rescue run a sponsorship scheme for what they call their "pensioners"   I amnot sure if they are registered with Purrs but the details should be on their website

HQ run a cabin sponsorship scheme I think.

We were told that we can't ask for money for a specific cat as that money can *only* be spent on that exact cat - something to do with Charity commission laws. Cabin sponsorships are different as the money can be spent on a variety of cats.  ;)

Edd, it is sponsorship (any amount) by individuals for either a particular cat or into a general fund for those in long term care, rather than commercial.

That is similar to what I used to do. We used to do pen sponsorship but the principles could be applied to an individual cat.

Basically people could contribute monthly by s/o for a particular pen and every quarter all the cats that went through that pen "told" their story and sent a little picture to their sponsor. We relaunched the scheme and updated it whilst I was there and increased the no. of sponsors and overall amounts received  Played a key part in helping our efforts to reduce the costs of cat care not covered by donations and fundraising. The sponsors loved getting the updates.

I can p/m you with more details and give you some links?

Congratulations on your new role  ;D

Could I ask do you mean sponsorship of individual cats/pens from the general public or commercial sponsorship?

Have experience of the former when with local CP.

:1st place: on your new role  ;D

Agree with Sam about the local paper, mine is very rescue friendly and always has little articles. An occasion coming up is Mothers Day so you could ask them to do a little piece about the cats that are available to sponsor as Mothers Day gifts - even if people didn't sponsor them for Mothers Day it gives you some more exposure.

Local press ... as you have taken over the role this is your opportunity to introduce yourself to the press and get a little article in the local paper.  If you can get local TV news interested as well even better.

In ancient times cats were worshiped as gods; they have not forgotten this.

Sponsorship role - any advice ?

I'm shortly going to be taking over as sponsorship secretary for our CP branch.   The current lady has been doing it for 12 years so hard footsteps to follow in - we have several cats in long term care (including my current foster, Peter).   Has anyone any experience of this - photos/details are advertised at homing shows, fund-raising events and on the website - any other ideas welcome to get more sponsors on board ?
