Hi Deany.

So sorry you found this site in desperation (I did too, just a few weeks ago). You'll find lots of help and support here, people stay up till all hours chatting about cat stuff, they'll offer all they know and what they don't know, they know someone who does, so it's brilliant.

Check your spam, my replies always get notified to my spam box (figure?), yours might be the same. If you like the smileys, check out the [more] option.

Jaff is a lovely boy. He's very like my Theo. I wish you luck and love.

Sheila

Jaff is in fact a black DSH - he was called Jafar at the rescue centre so I shortened it.  Sorry to confuse.

  Ahhhh ok ... well whatever colour he is we would love to see a pic of the handsome lad  so we know who we are talking about ;)

hi there, sorry to hear about Jaff.     My own Ginger ninja is not well either as has recently been diagnosed with  lymphoma.     Some days are good others are bad.      He's on steroids and pain killers.    We've decided not to try chemo as he has a severe heart murmur so don't feel we have anything to gain by possibly stressing him with the chemo.      He is getting as much chicken and other treats as he wants in the time we've got left.

Good luck with the specialist.    Hope you've still got a lot of time left with your boy.       Spoil him rotten and give him lots of cuddles

So sorry to hear about Jaff (I'm guessing he is a ginger ninja?).  Thankfully I haven't had to go through anything like this with my gang but I know there are lots of people on here who have sadly.  We are all here to support each other and offer advice whenever we can.  The first bit of advice I would give you at this time is to cherish every miment you have with Jaff (which I have no doubt you already do).  Also take as many photos of him as you can.

Good luck with the specialist and fingers crossed for a positive outcome

Welcome Deany and sorry its such a difficult time for you right now.   I have no experience of that particular cancer but have lived through the sort of situation you are going through, as have many people on Purrs, so you've come to right place for support.  I hope the news from the specialist is encouraging but in the meantime take heart from the fact that Jaff is behaving normally and try not to imagine the worst - difficult I know.

Welcome at such a sad time.
I've no experience of cats with mouth cancer but hope its not too aggressive and that you have plenty of time left!

Hi There

Wish Id found this forum before now, but only started searching this week cos Ive just found out that my lovely lil boy Jaff has been diagnosed with cancer of the jaw and I needed to find out more and look for support in this difficult time.

We are seeing the specialist on Tuesday so will know more about it then, but its been a hard week coming to terms with the idea that I will have to say goodbye to him somehow he has always seemed to be able to live forever.

He is a rescue cat - I got him 10 years ago (the saying is true - let them choose you and he certainly did - he ran up to me when I walked by his pen).

We think he was probably about 5 when I got him so he is a good age.

He is still very sprightly and is eating well, grooming and chasing the laser and our other cat Charlie, so its hard to accept that he is ill, but I have read so many posts where they say cats are good at keeping illness from us, I just hope he isnt hiding it from me.

If it comes to it, Jaff will be the first pet Ive ever had to have put down and that is the worst thing - knowing when it will be the right time.

I hope its ok to post here as Im desperate for support I also look forward to getting to know you all.

Thanks in advance.

Deany
