Can anyone help me with trying to get a sample for FLUTD diagnosis?!

Could you not just wash out the regular tray and put the plastic litter stuff in it in the usual spot? He might not notice too much if it is his normal tray? I'd just leave it in his tray till he has to use it as it needs to be got for his health's sake.
I know how he feels. The nurse had to run about a bath full of water to encourage me to go after an op

I used to go for the 'pretend I'm not looking at her so she goes in the tray' followed by 'hold the pot in the stream and hope her aim stays straight to avoid wet fingers'!

The vet can take a sample directly from the bladder, if all else fails.

Same as Dawn, but in my case with Max lifting tail whilst in tray, giggling at indignant look being given, and shot glass stuck under the wee stream .......... worked every time

Aargh, how do you train them? JtN is a v private cat and won't use the litter tray if he even THINKS you're watching him, far less wee in a cup!

Jim the Ninja exhibited symptoms of FLUTD a couple of weeks ago - pleased to report that, following a visit to the vet's and a course of ABs and painkillers, things seem to have been rectified!

However, vet has asked for a urine sample to ensure that condition is not chronic and I am tearing my hair out trying to get it! Got the non-absorbent litter/tube thing etc from the vet and bought a new tray, have tried locking him in another room (J&J are both indoor cats), but he WILL. NOT. GO! Of course, when his yowls get the better of me and I let him out of the spare room, he merrily trots off to the shared litterbox and has a wee....!

Any tips on collection?
