Taken Ginger to the vet tonight for a check up.       He's doing ok at moment and seems to be coping due his pain killers and steroids.     However his lump has increased a lot in size, and vet says his body feels very different to what it should.      He's put a lot of weight on which is not all due to his good appetite.        Still we feel very privileged that he is still with us.

thanks everyone.         this morning he didn't seem at all good, and seemed unable to walk at all.      Both OH and myself both felt it was time for him to go to the bridge, and rang the vets for an appointment.      However Ginger surprised OH later in the morning as he got up went to his food bowl, used litter tray and then started showing interest in a cat nip mouse!  Our vet rang to see how he was and he was miaowing his head off demanding to be let out!     Needless to say the appointment was cancelled.     We've cut back on the dosage of the vetergesic and tonight he seems brighter than he has been for a few days.     He's still eating for England and seems to be showing a bit more character than he has done for some time.

Why does it suggest that they are getting info from drug reps ?

Vetergesic (brand) is buprenorphine (drug) - related to morphine. Metacam (trade) is meloxicam (drug) a NSAID (anti-inflammatory) drug. The half life of buprenorphine is far longer than meloxicam but there is a risk of tolerance/ addiction. I always query when medics prescribe by trade name, it suggests they are getting some of their info from the drug reps.

I wonder if it takes time to get into his system and work effectively...........apparetly metacam has a very good half life which means thats why its so effective.

I think Franta was maybe on something like Ginger cos he cant have metacam either but was a liquid too.

thanks no Gill he can't have metacam as he's on steroids.     He's on vetergesic.       We are going to reduce the dosage tomorrow as vet did say that it can make them sleepy and a bit unsteady.      She did say we may ahve to reduce the dose.      Since he has been given his dose tonight he has been completly out of it [this being the first time we've seen his reaction to it as we've been out all day]

the boy isn't so good tonight.     He seems to be hobbling around worse than last night, even though he is on painkillers.     His poop is still pretty soft even though he's been on chicken and fortiflora since Saturday.      He's even been a little bit grumpy and hissed at the other cats, which isn't like him at all.      Nothing is wrong with his appetite though, he's just ate a load of chicken.          He seems to be getting gradually worse every day, with more symptoms occuring.       I was hoping the steroids etc would give us a bit of extra time with him, not sure though we are going to have much longer though.

Feeling quite despondent

hi Gill you could be right.     Just back from vet and she thinks it is either arthritis or its the lymphoma pressing on his spine.        We've now got pain killers as well for him.      Got to update her as to how he is doing in a week.       He's basically not moved out of the carrier since we came home poor lad.       I think he's feeling a bit fed up.     He's not even moved for his food so Alan hand fed him his chicken.

Just spoken to vet and we are taking him tonight.     Yes I think he is in pain now as well Gill.      There is nothing wrong with his appetite though as he just came and demanded chicken.       He ate a full bowl of that.     At this point the wegies realised they were missing out on something tasty and as I didn't have much chicken left I opened a can of almo nature.      {I'd bought a few different types of food in case we need to pursuade him to eat later on}.       He then muscled his way to the bowl and proceeded to eat that as well!

well no more diarrhoea from the Ginger Ninja, but he is holding his paw up and is now limping on the rear legs.     Waiting on a call from vet as to whether she wants to see him [we have appointment later with Kalle and Kyrre and would take Ging instead].       He's been demanding cuddles from me all morning.       Love him :Luv2:

thanks very much.    There was some in a litter tray this morning [which is an improvement as he has not managed to get to the trays in time since Friday].       Not heard his belly grumbling either.       He's been eating chicken still  along with a tiny bit of Grau [forgot that I'd left it out for the others].        Shall keep him on chicken until Tuesday [one of the kittens is due to be spayed tomorrow, so we would be feeding her chicken anyway].        I think by then we can assume that its not food related if it is carrying on.        He's still happy enough and enjoying his cuddles.

thanks both, found another pile of diarrhoea on carpet this morning  :(.    Vet is going to give him some meds to see if that will help.         He is still scoffing his chicken though which is good.          Hopefully between the two that will firm things up.   can't be pleasant for him, we can hear his belly grumbling away occasionally.

Ginger's not doing so well at moment.     we knew one cat has had soft poops for a couple of days but didn't know which one until today, when we saw him have diarrhoea typically after we came back from the vets with Oska.     We did tell vet though that we thought it was Ginger and she said it could be the lymphoma getting worse.      He has started holding his paw up again which he hasn't done since he was on steroids.      He's on a diet of chicken to see if that helps and if not vet will give him some more drugs.       Poor lad  :'(     I think we will probably be giving vet a ring in the morning.
