I need some more bedding for him like the cat blankets that you get from the cat show, with fleecy stuff on one side and material on the other and with a padding in..........dont know what to call them in a search cos cat blankets just bring up those thin throws...........anyone got any idea?

Is this the sort of thing Gill? they look like they are fabric one side and fleece the other, filled with squashy duvet - all machine washable http://www.beddingbox.com/product_info.php?cPath=22_42&products_id=418

Thank you and I think we both slept fairly well but I could do with another long sleep.........sigh

Dawn the vet thinks its happened when he jumped down off something.....maybe the back of the sofa which he did last week and I think its fairly recent. Its his one supporting leg on that side so is the main weight bearing leg.

I need some more bedding for him like the cat blankets that you get from the cat show, with fleecy stuff on one side and material on the other and with a padding in..........dont know what to call them in a search cos cat blankets just bring up those thin throws...........anyone got any idea?

Think I will go and get some cheapo towels tomorrow to pack as a base for him in the tray in the  cage,,,,,,,needs to be soft but fairly firm with the other things on top.

Just bought a couple of oven trays to use as litter trays LOL and a small SS dish with a lip all round which I am going to attached to the frame with garden wire and hope lol

We have meow meow meow at the moment cos he wants to get out and come and cuddle or rush upstairs.......sigh

I dont think either of us are going to cope well till early March.......sigh

Cage part covered now and am rounding up all my cat blankets and washing them so he can put his own smell on them.

He has eaten very well since coming home and had a drink and used the tray.

Hoping for a quiet night, not that Franta ever gives me one LOL. Misa was up on the bed when I went upstairs, waiting for me

Gill - I hope all goes well with Ducha's cage rest.

Great advice here from Purrs peeps. The only other thing I was told was to place a blanket or large bath towel over the top of the cage to help the cat settle.

Also Gill - I do agree with Liz about not moving the cage about. Much better for him to stay in one place (and also for you)

Gill we used to put the food on a saucer so its easily taken away

We do have big dogs so our crates are rather big I am sure that the potting things come in a couple of sizes I put that link there as an example but our green house is shut up all cosy and insulated for the winter so can't see in as its gone frosty here

I have just changed his bed to a flat one and he is much more comfortable.

That tray is enormous Liz  infact bigger than the cage lol, the cage has a tray full size at bottom.

The cage I was gonna get from argos was apparently the same size as that tray but this cage is 4cm smaller.

Ahhhh he has just eaten again and is now lying down flat cleaning.............much better.

Am having to alternate litter tray and food cos not enough room for both,

Will pm you Pav  ;D

Gill link for plant thing

http://www.plantmenow.co.uk/potting-tray.aspx

The clip on dishes we have came with the cat travel boxes they are quite small but hold enough water for cats and Sunny has one on his crate for overnight

Gill a flat bed with no sides is best then he can't dangle paw - alternate use is a pillow

I wouldn't keep moving the crate keep him in one place better all round if you fall you could both get hurt - I would leave him in the crate and shut the door so if he yowls the noise will be quieter

Puma spent 10 weeks in the lounge but got one hour a day out for a wander very hard on him as he was a hand rear and sleeps with me everynight but he wasn't to bad also a feliway spray and catnip helped keep him occupied

Thank you all.

He has been in the cage for about 2 hrs now and is starting to get restless and bored, he has alre4ady over turned his water dish, eaten and used the ttray.

I wish I could have afforded a bigger cage cos dont feel this one is big enough, however Liz can you terll me what the plant thingy was used for........sure I am being dumb and if you had a picture of it that would help me to look for one.

Where can I get a clip on dish?

This cage aleady takes up so much floor space I couldnt fit a bigger one in but the cage is very heavy and need to move him upstairs tonight, so that at least he is in the same room as usual.

Yes must remember to close door Liz, you are right abut sadly there are millions of places to hide and somewhere I have a microwave hot water bottle.

After seeing the xrays I think its a dislocation and also a break and Richard says the ligament will fill the gap but it can easily pop out again, so very worrying cos this is Duchas life at risk.

The break/dislocation is in the wrist and suspect it was from a jump down from on high,,,,,,,,,,,,,,he is wreckless, Probably occurred in last week but he has been agrevating it and by this morning it was so bad he couldnt stand anymore.

I dont understand how its gonna heal when he is lying this paw over the side of his bed and he doesnt seem to be able to get comfy, so is constantly moving.

Any advice from anyoned is most appreciated.

Gill an idea for cage rest if you have the plant thing for potting up it is high on 3 sides and flat at the front with a shallow lip and we have used this type of thing before when Puma was on 10 weeks cage rest with his metal fixator

Puma was in a large dog crate and the shallow plant thing, and a bed and a clip on water bowl on the side of the crate means no water bowls for spilling or lying in

We also had the self heating reflectabed in his flat bed so that he was never cold as this bedding retains the body heat they build up if it is cold at night I recommend the micro heat pads this can be slipped in to a twel and put under any bed type

Any cat on cage rest will rebel and be vocal and try to escape - we always shut the door before we opened the crate and ensured he had nowhere to hide - I know that may be an issue  but trying to get them out of a hidey hole can cause further damage

Thank you.

I have bought a cage from the farmers place and cost £50 and very bloomin heavy......sigh It cost £2 more than argos which is reported to be very flimsy.

I am about 166 mile return from cardiff Sue so not worth the petrol and dont have time cos need cage tonight when Ducha comes home. Thanks for the thought

Just having a little rest and need to get cage up with bedding in before going back to the Gower.

I will add a bit to the title cos any advise on cvage rest needed, with the enphasis on rest and no wailing...........cos he is a birman !

Also a bit worried about bedding cos he likes to sleep off the floor but he cant, do I put in the only floor bed he uses or is it better for him to just stretch out flat...............he usually curls up in his beds. Until I see the xray tonight dont know which bit was dislocated but I think it will be the joint below the top one.

At the momen t Susanne he will not be bothered but he will need help getting into and out of litter tray, thinking of using a nearly flat tray.

Once he starts to feel better he will not be a happy bunny aqnd am going to need to move the cage from downstairs and back again at night so I am in same room as much as possible.

Vet has recomended a cage from Argos around £30, but thats too small and prices have gone up.

The next size up looks the right size to get litter tray in and bedding and food and water.

Going to go and try the farmers place just up the road before travelling to argos.

I am still so worried about him cos he is such a climber and will lose the jumping ability while being cage rested, so that means he will then use front legs to haul himself up............I will worry about that later!

I wish you were closer too Edd

We dont have  a Cp or any other rescue.

Gill, am very glad it wasn't a broken leg although understand your reservations about cage rest for your beautiful boy.  Argos do a variety of cages and I seem to recall they're about £5.00 cheaper than PAH, although you could maybe find something cheaper on google.  Are they keeping him at the vet or letting him home straight away?

Oh poor Ducha and what a shock for you - Gill

Glad you have now found out it is a dislocation and Ducha needs cage rest - wish you were near me and I would shoot round with my cage.  Got mine from Pets at Home - large enough for a cat bed, litter tray and food and water bowls.

Have you a local CP or other rescue - they sometimes lend out cages (for a donation or a deposit).

Sending healing vibes for Ducha.

I hope it's best case scenario and not worst case.   Keeping everything crossed for you both.

ETA - oh that's good news Gill.  How will he take to cage rest?  I dread ever having to put either of my 2 on cage rest.  If it was Jaffa I'd have to crawl in there with him, and if it was Mosi he'd go crazy being confined.

Just had a call from Richard, his vet and the good news that its is a dislocation and the leg has been put back but the down news is that it could pop out again any time and he needs up to four weeks cage rest but even after that it could happen again.

Richard says its not worth trying to bandage or cast cos he thinks that will not be good for Ducha.

Have to go out and buy a cage now from somewhere.

Ducha is at the vets being xrayed cos he has broken or damaged something very badly in his right front leg, which his weight bearing leg cos of having no back leg on that side.

Richard his vet has said to prepare for the worst  :'( :'(

The best would be that he has snapped the ligament and the worst would be an upward fracture or fragments that have broken off or will not heal.

I am wondering how long he has been like this although I thought maybe he had a problem the early hours of the night before last but yesterday he was moving between his beds but never saw him walk. This morning he wanted the litter tray but couldnt get there and I broght the tray to him.

He wasnt showing any kind of pain but thought his leg looked at wrong angle and then he couldnt stand anymore.

When I rang vets for appointment this morning first thing, I was told there werent any and had an appointment for 1615 b ut rang back an hour later cos I thoiught maybe he had dislocated his leg cos by then he couldnt walk. I was told I would have to see the vet I will never see again but was put through to Richard who said just get him there as fast as possible.

Turns out Richard was free and could have seen him earlier, so heads will roll.

Please send Ducha your very bestest vibes cos I cant believe I may lose him cos of a broken leg  :'( :'(
