I give Ollie Diazepam when he takes seizures, Its tubes of the rectal Diazepam i use.

Each tube is 10 mg and i give him half a tube, then more if he has other seizures.

Reading the leaflet is says for surgical procedures its 0.2mg per kg of body weight

I gues as with all medicines they can cause bad reactions

So so sad :(

Thanks Guy's
this is so heart breaking  :'(

Olivia is home just now, but we have an appointment at the cremetorium tomorrow so she can be
with us always, where ever we go..

The Vet said he did not know what was happening to Olivia, but he did say a couple of things which got
me thinking, I got it wrong, Olivia was not anethetized for the xray, she was sedated using diazepam

Ironically I think it was this that Killed Olivia, and would like to warn other's of the danger

I have read a couple of things on the internet including Overdose and adverse reaction
I feel that Olivia may have been one of the rare cats that sucumb to an adverse reaction
I would hate to think that they accidentally gave Olivia an Overdose

Here are the quotes of which I have read

Overdose
Overdose with diazepam alone produces significant Central Nervous System depression (disorientation, depression, decreased reflexes, coma). Combinations of diazepam with other CNS depressant drugs may increase the severity and complicate treating an overdose. Cardiovascular and respiratory support measures may be necessary.

Valium (diazepam) and Serax (oxazepam)
When giving these tranquilizers to cats, it is extremely important to always
keep a close watch on them when the drug takes effect to make sure they
don't fall off anything. They may be a bit unsteady, wobbly and uncoordinated
as their central nervous system is affected by these drugs. By experimentation
you may find a dose small enough not to cause noticeable CNS depression
while still stimulating appetite.
Warning: Some cats cannot tolerate diazepam. In these cats the drug causes
massive liver and kidney damage and death within a short time. While the
percentage of cats that are susceptible to this reaction is extremely small,
the reaction is so serious that it must be a factor in the decision to use
diazepam to treat inappetence.

Will be thinking of you both  Please try and stay positive though Stuart  When Riley was ill a few months ago he was totally unresponsive, wouldn't move, wouldn't even sniff his favourite treats or respond to my voice, when he did start eating he couldn't keep anything down. I was really worried but he made a full recovery so it could be that Olivia has some sort of virus that has been exacerbated by the procedure she had yesterday

got an appointment at the vets at 2:20

Olivia in my view has gotten worse, she is so out of it as tho she was still under anesthetic??
( her eyes are still dilated ?? )
she was actually more lively last night when we first took her home..

When I came in just now I shouted to her, and her ears pricked up, but no movement of head
I took my jacket off but when I turned around, she was trying to make her way towards me
she too a few wobbely steps then fell flat out in a heap, I picked her up to put her back on her
duvet and there was absolutely no movement, it feels like she doesn't even have enough strength
to pick her head up, the food she did have last night has been vomited back up..

this does not look good  :'(

I also went down to speak to the lady whom I got Olivia from, but she was not in, Her son was tho,
and I told him what was happening, He informed me that his Mum Liz has no cat's now
I knew about Gypsy ( Olivias Mum ) she was 13 when she was pts, but I was shocked when He told
me that Jack ( Olivias son ) was pts when he was 5 because of CRF

I honestly don't think it is the Kidneys that are doing this to Olivia, as the vet said Olivias kidney problem
was caught Very early? maybe she is having an adverse reaction to the anesthetic, or they have given her
too much ??

I don't know?? I will keep you informed what happens

please don't worry too much about the heart thing Stuart, our old boy bluto had one from the age of 5 and lived to be 14 1/2 and died of something unrelated

with anything medical human or animal never be afraid to ask questions - phone the vet

I'm worried again  :scared:

Olivia does not seem to have moved from where she lay when she came in yesterday ( 5pm )
she is just laying there on her side and does not want to move and is still very distant??
it's as tho she is still under the anesthetic ?? I thought this would be out of her system by now ??

Hamish and misty were usually ok by the next morning,

has anyone here experianced this kinda thing before?? should I phone the vet or give Olivia more time to recover ??

So glad the lumps weren''t anything serious.

Poor Olivia , she sounds like she was in a mess when you got her home !

My vets onlu usually ask to see you after they have been there overnight if they need to talk to you about anything -i would have thought they would in this instance to explain everything !

Smartie has been on Fortekur for his heart for a good few years now and he takes it without any bother at all . He is doing fine too and coming up to 14 in May !

Sending lots of     to all of you , especially beautiful Olivia  :Luv2: :Luv2:

At our wonderful vets it is the vet nurses who discharge the animals unless you ask to see a vet, happens in most practices around here

I'm sure under yours and Carols wonderful care Miss Olivia will be just fine
