Another poo query...U/D Has anyone had any joy with i/d?

I used i/d a lot at the rescue I worked at. It's fantastic food and always worked. Even used it on the cattery cats if one of them got a bit of an upset tum with great success. It also seems to be extremely palatable.

Right we're definitely getting somewhere. Poos are almost satisfactory. As predicted, Smokey's food keeps disappearing but it's not making a great deal of difference.

Hill's i/d looks like it might be an option for when I run out of RC Sensitivity pouches. It seems from the description that it's more suited to problems like Chester's.

Does anyone feed it regularly or had any joy with it in the past?

Yeh, you really need to have him eating one type of food for a week at least to see if there is any change in his poos, if he eats anything else, like Smokey's dry, you won't be able to tell. Sounds like introducing the new stuff like the agail/gourmet was a bit too much for his digestion and its just taking a while for it to get it back to normal again.

Thanks for the reply Gillian. He was on Zylkene before the poos happened. At the rescue he was on RC with the odd pouch of wet food as a treat. When he got to ours I fed him RC Digestive as it's what I would normally feed but I also fed him AGAIL Twice a day or Gourmet or similar. I basically spoilt him. He was so skinny and unkempt that I wanted to build him up so I fed him 2 pouches a day and freefed dry.

Now he is so much healthier-looking. His coat is shiny and fluffy, his eyes are bright but he does gurgle and have wind.

I haven't tried plain chicken for the simple reason that Smokey is really really picky (I don't think he can smell very much) and he's used to grazing throughout the day. Chester will eat the chicken and then nom Smoo's dinner too! I will try that next though for a few days and Smokey will have to get used to mealtimes.

His poos vary greatly from looking like mr whippy ice cream (sorry  ), so they have cosistency but are soft, to full-on splats. They seemed to be getting better on the Purely until last night when he did one that was like liquid. If I see any more of that he's going back to the vet but as a one-off I'll let him off.

Those sachets are an ok price but add the £3ish shipping and I might as well get a tub. Will keep trying and report back

What food was he eating during the time his poos were fine? Are his poos any better on the Purely and Orijen etc? Grain/cereal (carbs) intolerance is common, not surprising really as cats didnt evolve to eat 'em! and most drys and many wet have them. Have you tried him on plain cooked chicken for a few days, then gradually reintroduce a carb free food? that, together with a the probiotic might be worth trying.

Another good probiotic is Fortiflora, but thats quite a big box of sachets {link removed to supplier as they have let down rescue cats and Purrs will not support them}

Zylkene contains a milk peptide - so its possible that in itself could be causing the runny poos?

We've had Lord Chester for a while now.

When we got him his poos were fine and (schoolgirl error) I fed him all the poshest food I could to make him feel happy and welcome.

Soon the poos turned...erm....whippy and they've stayed that way ever since.

Food-wise I'm a RC fan and I've tried Sensible, Digestive, Oral (bigger kibble in case he was gobbling it) and veterinary sensitive. On seeking out a probiotic to try, my local and very helpful pet shop told me it could well be a grain intolerance and to try Orijen, Acana and Ziwi Peak. I have tried these as well as PAH's More Meaty Purely which has prebiotics in it.

Vet couldn't find anything wrong when he went in for his annual healthcheck and he's bouncing around like a crazy animal so I'm not really really worried, it's just getting a bit much when he does a splatty and the walks it around the house 


Think it could be a stress thing? Today I've started him back on Zylkene to see if that helps. He was taking that when he came to me to help him settle but I took him off it quite quickly and used Feliway instead.

Or shall I try Lacto B? I've tried bio yoghurt but he won't touch it. Anyone know where to get the sachets quite cheap? I don't mind paying for it but I'm sick of buying new things to find they don't work!
