LOL!  Messages crossed - I never even thought about FIV.  I've said the same basically - if your home will be better suited to her than ours that is fine.  It is up to Andrea to decide where she will be best placed. :)

Sure thing.

Do whatever is best for Sky. She deserves the best after all she has been through.

I've had a think over night and I've decided that as long as she doesn't have FIV I'd love to offer her a home. I have Widget to think of and I can't risk my little old man catching FIV.

What do I need to do now to set the testing and adoption process going?

Oh I have one other slight problem. As this wee gorgeous girlie is in Nottingham and I don't drive, will she be ok with coming home with me on the train if I passed home checks and am allowed to adopt her. It is about a 5 hour journey.

The other thing is if Sootyca is wanting her and lives nearer maybe it would be in Sky's better interests to be homed there... (it was very hard to type that, because I have really fallen for her just from the photos!)

I do believe Sootyca was showing an interest in Sky too. Not surprising as she's lovely. Hope either she or Skully are able to offer Sky a home, that would be wonderful. :)

The reason I ask about FIV is because some years ago I adopted a female cat Mair from a rehoming centre and successfully integrated her into my home with the lovely 16 year old kitty, Emily, that I had at the time and after a month Mair just went from a happy healthy looking cat, to a cat that couldn't regulate her own body temperature, has discharge from her nose and eyes and she just stopped eating and lost a huge amount of weight in days. She just shivered the weight off. I took her to the vets, the first day she showed any signs of illness, they tested her and after a week they called me and told me she had FIV and loads of complications because of that and the only kind thing to do was put her to sleep. Then they told me I had to get Emily tested as she could have FIV too. It broke my heart to have to put Mair to sleep and then I spent a terrified week waiting for Emily's blood test results to come back. Thankfully Emily didn't have FIV and she lived on until she was 21 years old.

This was all some years ago when FIV wasn't so well known about and wasn't so regularly tested for, so I don't blame the rehoming centre for not knowing and telling me, but I still feel to this day that if I had known and I had more knowledge of Mairs condition when I got her, she may have survived longer and or she might have stood more of a chance of a long happy life. To this day I feel like I let her down, hence I just feel the need to know as much as I can, so I can research if I am able to give the kitties I take in the best lives I can, however long or short those lives maybe.

RACR, has she been tested for FIV etc.  Does she have any underlying health problems?

I just want to be sure I can offer her exactly what she needs before I put myself forward as a possible rehomer. She has had such a bad time lately I think she deserves the perfect home. If I can offer that to her I'd love to share my home with her.

:Luv2: Oh she is adorable. Would South Wales be to far away to re-home her?

I'm looking for a 4-6 year old female kitty to give a forever home to as company for my little old man Widget, who is 14 years old, laid back and fairly lazy unless he has a companion to egg him on to mischief.

I shouldn't have looked in here - all these Nottingham cuties... if only I didn't live in rubbishy rented houses where you've got to beg and scrape to be allowed to keep one, slightly wonky moggie... bah (managed to negotiate a discount on the pet damage additional deposit though on the grounds she had 25% less claws than the average cat!).

She's got such a pretty little face - sounds like a similar personality to my tripod who has to be superglued next to you if at all possible at all times! Not known many other cats do the complete and total limpet mine thing so it's interesting to hear of another one!

Sky Needs a new home, Nottingham (HOMED)
« Reply #1 on: February 11, 2010, 14:18:05 PM »
Sky came to us from Scotland after her and 2 other females were surrended to rescues. The home she came from wasn't a good life for Sky or any animal, 11 cats all un neautered/spayed and extremely thin and malnourished. Whats more we learnt when Sky arrived with us she was heavily pregnant, not that you could tell looking at her as she was thin. I took her for a scan which revelaed 4 babies, 3 dead and one alive. She was over due so taken in for a C section. Sadly the alive kitten didnt survive and all had died.

Despite Skys dreadful life before she is a wonderful lovng cat! She will sit with you and purr all day and loves licking you to give effection. She is used to other cats and dogs and has been around my kids which she loves also.

Sky is 4 years old and recovering well and slowly gaining weight again. Sky will make some family a lovely pet and will reward you with non stop effection and love.

She is hard to get pictures of as wants to be right on you and licks you to death  She is so lovely!

Her wound which she hasn't bothered with at all bless her.
