ok im being thick ...but what stops the cats getting out on the sides that arent fenced it ??
that does look bloomin marvelous though gillian and you can so tell they are avid gardeners, beautiful !!

I'm presuming that the whole area is enclosed, but the've just photographed one section? either that, or it is attached to the house maybe and they've photographed looking down from the house? dunno!!

Lynn where do i get one of them from ...?

Sorry i am a real novice with these cat proofing things !

What sort of shared access do you have Littlebobo? I used to live in a a row of terraced houses with shared access across the back of the houses - is it something like that? Theres a detailed description of catproofing/enclosing a garden that actually looks very attractive too - http://www.mainecoonguild.org.uk/Garden_Safety/garden_safety.html

Could you do something like that further down the garden away from the shared access - then make a raised tunnel that led from the house to the enclosed area?

well michael is making a new one for me.  Ive been meaning to take pics of the work in progress for lottie so when i get round to it i'll post you aswell but basically he just bought a small sized shed from b and q and is making a run that will be permanently attached to it.

have you had a look on ebay etc and that will give you an idea

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/9-ft-x-4ft-Top-quality-Cat-house-and-run-Cattery_W0QQitemZ150100635112QQcategoryZ1284QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

or

http://www.happinessragdolls.co.uk/catruns_155934.html

if you look at the 2nd link i posted the run is made up of individual panels which are then fixed together, thats basically what my hubby is doing. bearing in mind altho a decent size is good cats like to climb etc so the run doesnt have to be massive to give them plenty to do and excercise, in our house we have a cat flap at the end of the hallway and currently the cats go through the flap and they are in their current shed but when the new run gets completed they will go through the run and enter the enclosure part as the shed will be at the other end of the run.

littlebobo, what about a cat walkway down to an enclosure ??  least it gives some secure outdoor access and basically a cat secured garden is just a big enclosure.

Tan if you put soil on top of the tunnels , you make have to make and edging to keep in place, and then srinkle with loads of grass seed s remembering to keep watered, it should grow fine cos grass roots are not that long. Just dont let the grass dry out.

I would so love something like that for my cats, unfortunately it is not possible although we are completely enclosed with a fence.  The back entrance via a double gate it  is the convenient one to use as the car is parked at the back and all visitors come that way as it is near where they need to park. Also we need to used that entrance for my husband to get his bikes in. At  the front there is no road, just gardens  and a path running down  the whole Drive so no one can park there.

Lucky cats!  I'm desperate to move from a flat to a house so that I can create an outdoor adventure playground for my boys.

  Lynn looks like Seb would get out then  Thanks god i have slighly thick lads !!

Gillian, Hmmm the turf idea to hide the tunnels went very well with new turf but no we forgot to lay down some extra earth underneath and it has all died. :(
Still if we get a horse passing by, it would love the straw!!  We are trying to think of something natural that can hide the tunnels.

I am totally rubbish at gardening and i haven't the faintest what plants to put in or where to put them to look nice. We have got bamboo up to put a background at the back of the waterfall and pond which looks nice but most of the plants we planted last year have died. Oooops!!   :innocent: Gotta start again with plants this summer!  :innocent:

Tan, its looks abosultely brilliant! I really like the tunnel idea - you say the tunnels were covered with roof felt - and then turf on top? - does the turf survive with nowhere for its roots to go, or do you put earth on the felt, then the turf? I'd like to try that for my lot  ;D

Why is it flexible tan ?? I totally get how every other cat in existance couldnt get out but seb can do the under and over thing (believe me his old run and metal mesh panels for the sides so they were solid and the roofing was some type of material netting, butter lugs managed to cling with dear life and work his way upside down on the netting to reach the hole !! -- perhaps i should have sold him to the american army...they'd have loved him) However in light of last nights carry on again the absense of feet will now make this very difficult for him

Ahh thats where me crafty Lynns  ;) The fencing has an arch system which is flexable so they cant climb up, hang on and arch them themselfs under then over the top. It's allowed me to run a high walking platform all along the fences so they can get from the top of the playstaion to the other side of the garden.  Very handy for sneekin on humans in dark when they are lookin for cats on the groundi n hide and sneek game ! Hmmm!!  :-:

Wow - Tan!   That's amazing.  It's really impressive.   I have a friend in the lakes who did a similar thing with her garden.  It just goes to show it doesn't need to be intrusive either.

The cat fencing was shared with next door so was about £180 the tunnells etc were cheap cause they just planks of wood with roof felt on them, the outside huts were from a place called catplaystations and about 30 - 60 each. The most expensive were the plants!!!  and the pond was about 150 with the pump, waterfall, filter , lining, lights etc

xx

In three posts :)
Pics from when we were making the garden for me lads. There are  four waterproof tunnels (covered in turf) two with upper and lower floors, half of the shed roof is a look out and bird watch platform (they sleep up there in summer) , there are two sleeping huts troy platstaion, high platforms on fencing running all round garden oo and a pond of fishies for fishy watchin. :)

We have got more plants in now but bot looking too good many died down over winter at the mo... will be better when all grown back in summer.

They love the troy and the tunnels and Rio is always fishy watchin!!

They can go out and in when they want through cat flap.

Just some ideas for ya :)
