I'm going by my experience, because your cats are kept indoors (as mine are) she shouldn't go far to have them depending if she is timered or not, i was surprised with mitsey as she had them in a box but in front of us, please don't let your other cats near as mother can get aggressive.
as for cat milk Evo is the only one that likes it in the cat family, but i still put a bit down for mitsey. i don't see giving them milk as a problem (if they like it) but i allways make sure they have got water next to it as well, hope it helps

Oh Mine love cheese

I think a lot of cats like cheese. At one time there was a cat food available that had little pieces of cheese in it. I don't  know if it is still available.

Deborah I wouldnt worry bout her not liking the cat milk, stick to water i think !!

Oh, I know, she has water anyway, but I meant it as a treat, so I'm a bit disappointed, that's all  ;D

Déborah xx
As a treat my cats prefer cheese to milk. The process of cheesemaking gets rid of all the lactose, but you should still be wary of giving too much as high fat foods are bad for cats. A few shavings of grated cheese should be fine though.

just want to add re the whiskas kitten milk...

IT IS NOT SUITABLE AS A MILK REPLACEMENT FOR BOTTLE FED / HAND REARED KITTENS

That is only ok for kittens as a wee treat i suppose and i'd say after the kitten has totally weaned from mum, and i dont care what it says on the back of the carton LOL..as far as i am concerned a 6 week old kitten should still be either feeding from mum or having as we said cimicat or equivelent, scientifically formulated specifically for cats just as human baby sma is !!!

Personally i see no good of that kitten milk cartons at all esp if it leads to confusion as it did with forever in people that have no thought or access to sites like this...that worries me actually.

why else would a female cat not come into season after 4 weeks

There is no set time limit for a cat to come into season, some seem to come into season every 2 or 3 weeks others come into season only a very few times a year. As you know If your cat belonged to me I would not be in your position she would have been spayed.

She is an indoor cat isn't she?

after the birth would i need to keep the other cats and the dog right away from the kittens ?

As I always keep all foster cats separate I have never had that problem. and none of my own cats have never been allowed to breed.

I know often in a multicat household people do mix but I think it wise to find a room when the cat and kittens can have peace and quiet.

can i just ask u Ela  do i need to buy a differnt bed or get a big box and put all newspaper and blankets in for her to have the kittens in or will her usual bed be ok ?

You can buy what you like but very often they will have them where they want too. Sadly many that go outside have them in terrible places and endanger their lives and the lives of the kittens.

are u sure i could give whiskas milk to the kittens(if they werent feeding properly)

Ciimcat or similar needs to be given to kittens if it is necessary to supplement mums milk.

Yes ela ... more so of a problem i reckon where cats are given it to drink on a regular basis and like you say fed on mainly dry diet or already have urinary problems.

I just bought some for Mia as a treat, and she doesn't seem too keen on it. I thought she would love it as she's always stealing yogurt, cream etc., but nope. Grrrr!

also on the days they drink milk they may consume less water which isnt something we want to encourage in cats, just

That is a good point and I had not thought of that. Because of course a cat would not realize milk was a food and not a drink. This would be especially dangerous where cats were fed a dry food diet only.

long ago been told goats milk is ok

We have in the past given goats milk to kittens in an emergency until we could get Cimicat or Lactol and it is fine.

id agree with ela rhona and just because so far they have been lucky doesnt mean to say they wont ever develop an intolerance to it,  you could give them cat milk instead or i have not too long ago been told goats milk is ok ( i have no veterinary evidence on that either way and i dont know about the lactose content in it)  also on the days they drink milk they may consume less water which isnt something we want to encourage in cats, just the opposite in fact.

so.  They absolutely love it & so far I haven't had any probs with upsets tums or anything.

You or rather your cats have been very lucky, so many times I receive calls about cats with loose motions, I ask if they are having cows mil, they say yes, although I always say I am not a vet and advise a vet visit. in most of the cases no cows milk no loose motions.

I don't feed mine cat milk as there's no need for it. People seem to forget it's a food rather than a drink.

If you really want to feed her a proper kitten milk when she is lactating then go for something like Royal Canin Babycat milk, KMR or Cimicat rather than Whiskas milk. As Lynn said you will need to keep some in anyway in case any of the kittens need to be bottle fed for any reason.

if she is having a high quality complete food then no she does not require milk, however i think its ok to give kitten formula (cimicat) to the mother in late pregnancy but more so during lactation.  its not a bad idea, in fact i'd advise having some bought in before the kittens are born anyway..best to be prepared.

No, unless someone puts a bit in the cat food collection. Milk is not really necessary as it is not a drink it is a food.

Yeah it is cat milk ive been buying the whiskas one
id not give them cows milk coz it gives them the runs sometimes

yes makosi was named after the woman on big bro
the summer it was on tv i bought makosi was told she was 8 weeks
but after a check up with the vet i was told she was more like 5 weeks she was so tiny and even her little face hadnt grown much so her eyes use to really bulge out
the familey we got her from couldnt wait to get rid of the kittens and im so glad i got her out of there the place was vile and there was cats dogs and puppies and loads of kids and all were living in filthy conditions , my mum has got makosi s brother charlie although they look nothing alike as he is big and fluffy and white with tabby patches .

cow's milk isn't great for cats as many are lactose intolerant, but if yours are ok with it a small amount wont hurt, imo.  How about getting some cat milk for Makosi?  Or indeed for the others if they're partial to a bit of milk.

Incidentally - been meaning to ask - is Makosi named after that ghastly woman on Big Brother the other year or is that coincidence?  ;D  I've never heard the name apart from that.
