Perhaps he thinks you're a cat and is trying to play with you.  Little  nips don't tend to hurt when you're wearing a fur coat.

Ooo I'm so sorry Helen, I missed your last post (haven't been using the computer much).

Memphis is actually 21 months  :shify: :shify: I never even thought about him going through his terrible teenagers. It does make complete sense and I hope he grows out of it .. update though I still have the bruise, it's faint but still hanging on  :evillaugh: But he's not done it since and he's actually been a lot more clingly than normal.

If I remember rightly I think there was a full moon around the time he changed his behaviour .. I wonder if that is a myth or whether there is truth in it  :scared:

It could just be his age Den, kind of like the terrible teenager phase.  I know he's a bit younger than the boys but when Riley was 20 months ish he started violently bunny kicking with claws when I rubbed his tummy, I was really shocked as he'd never done anything like that before. When he did it I squeezed his paws and kept repeating 'gentle' (which was how I taught them to not use their claws in the first place) and he grew out of it fairly quickly.

Hope Memphis grows out if this stage too  If he carries on might be worth a vet visit just to check there are no underlying issues causing him to be violent.

I saw the cat across the road trying to climb out of the small second floor window last week - he was leaning down the big window. I completely freaked out and just stood not knowing what to do.

Thankfully he decided it wasn't worth it and pulled himself back in.

I saw that with this little white kitten. All the houses around here have kind of a porch area and he was trying to jump from the window to the porch. He would have got stuck if he did because he was tiny, maybe 9/10 weeks. Due to the angle he wouldn't have managed to get back up to the window and the jump from the porch to the ground looked far too high for him  :(

Maybe I'll join Memph in looking out the window to see if there is a cat roaming around at night.

It can literally be something that seemingly unimportant to you - Memphis could just have decided he dislikes one particular cat.

He looks out of the window? Any newcomers to the area? It can literally be just seeing a cat he feels shouldn't be near his home that makes him react like that.

Not that I've seen, but the chances are very high. It is a very residential area with a lot of cats [and dogs]. I did see an un-neutered ginger tom the other day 2 roads away. But I don't know if he comes over the main road.
There is also a 6/7 month old who lives to the back of my house and a tiny white kitten in a house where they leave the big window wide open

Edit: I should mention that they aren't in my direct area, as in I can't see their house from mine but they aren't far.

I'm quite nervous about bedtime tonight  :scared:

It would be nice to know what is setting him off .... both times it has been when I'm getting into bed. Usually he eats, walks around sits on the windowsill looking outside. Then comes and curls up on me and falls asleep. As far as I'm aware I haven't done anything to make him mad  :scared: I did loose his lottery ticket on Tuesday though

Thank you so much everyone for the help and sympathy

Sam had previously had toys which said they contained catnip but the overdose was when we got him a fabric mouse that was filled with dried catnip, the actual herb.

I sympathise completely.

Our lovely Burmese Lirael likes to bite when she’s in a mood – which you aren’t aware of until she’s got her teeth in you.

If you watch her carefully you can see when she is going to do it as her ears go back and she just looks annoyed.

She has done it for various reasons, stopped paying attention to her is the most likely cause!

Hmmm, thanks JS. By reading that it could be concluded that he wants my space. He does have a habit of always pinching my seat when I get up. In a way though his behaviour is really odd.

My mum probably says it best (because she finds it rather amusing). She says he is very much a mummy's boy. He is always following me around, when he isn't following me around he is usually sat on me. About an hour before his little 'attack' last night he was curled up to me whilst he was washing both himself and me. He always wants to be with me or playing with me.

I don't know what's going wrong in that little brain.

He did it again last night

This time I was actually in bed about to sleep, he came right up to my face and I let him, but instead of licking he bit me right between the eyes  :-: then, before I had time to react he latched onto the side of my head with his teeth and I had to pull him off

He had his ears almost pinned back and his eyes were like this ----- >  :shify:

He even had bedtime biccies last night too!!

As for catnip, he does have a lot of toys with catnip in, but he has never reacted to it.

So ummm,

Anyone want another cat?  :innocent:

My first cat, Sam, crept up behind my husband and bit him on the ankle when he was 'high' on catnip. No catnip for Sam after that!

Its simple, you upset him!

Not only didnt you give him his biscuits but you ignored him needing attention and then you had the nerve to get into bed and read a book and not even look at him.................so he demanded attention in the only way he knew how and got it

Believe me when they want to really bite and break the skin they can, so be very scared of not giving Memphis anough attention againcos he has given you the warning  :shify: :shify:

 wonder what triggered that. :shify: is he prone to guarding behaviour at all? Just wondering 'cos you said you were getting into bed. :-: Hope you're not too sore. ETA: duh, just realised Memphis is your cat, not dog!

My darling :naughty: Jarvis went to bite my foot t'other day >:( he was munching something he'd stolen, and he guards food from my other dog anyway, and me walking past must've taken him by surprise and he tried to bite me. Was the first time since he was about 6/8 months old. Little sod. :innocent: They do like to keep us on our toes don't they?

OMG  sounds liek he was having a "funny five mins" and you happened to be in the way.

I don't think so  :scared: He normally has funny five minutes several times a day. They frequently involve him running around the house at 100mph, diving into boxes, bouncing off of chairs, wrestling with straws and ending in him landing on me drops the straw and waits for me to throw it. There were no toys present and no running around. He went from calm to vampire cat.

If he has changed his funny 5 mins behaviour he forgot to give me the memo

and it hurts!!!!!!

I was minding my own business, doing a couple of things around the house, Memph was following me around like a little lost sheep, which is 100% normal behaviour with him. I decided to come upstairs and snuggle in bed with a book. I get half into bed and he launches himself like a possessed thing at me. Next thing I know he has latched himself onto my thigh  I'm wearing shorts so it was 100% teeth on skin contact. Luckily though he didn't puncture my skin but omg, it has bruised up lovely  Lets just say he has a huge mouth  I have four very distinctive bruises from each one of his pointy teeth and 4 large bumps in the middle of those bruises  :-:

I don't have a clue why he did it, but I think he knows he's done wrong because he's staying well away from me.

No bed time treat for him!!
