Ela - I was talking to a breeder on another forum, and she said that when they do a section and spay, that it can affect them being able to feed their kittens - but I am sure Dawn has had it done before and with no issues.
Please spay your cat

I am so sorry but as Desleys says it is all part of nature. Although that does not make it any easier for us. :(

Was it Lucas that Jasmine kept moving yesterday? If so it would be because mum knew that all was not well. Cleft pallet for instance.

They didn't spay her. I think he said it was because the baby inside was alive

I really don't know why she wasn't spayed, although it obviously happens I cannot understand the vets reasoning, over any year we have a few cats and I hear of many more (because we have to pay) with the same problem. In most cases there are alive kittens inside and all have been spayed at the same time. I assume you will be keeping her in as she can get pregnant from when the kittens are about 2 weeks old.

Aww, I am so sorry to hear that Karen, sadly that is part of nature, the only thing you can do is keep a close eye on the others, and if you have some scales, weigh them daily to make sure they are all feeding well and step in if not.
i do think it odd that the vet didnt spay her, as it means another anaesthetic. As for the blood, cats do bleed after birth like humans do, so the spotting could be that. It isn't that unusual for mums to try and move their babies, but it is normally when they are unhappy at the place they are in - do you remember which one it was that she was moving? They can sense if there is something wrong with a kitten, so this morning's events could have something to do with it. not sure about how long before they should be usign the tray, hopefully Teresa or Dawn can help on that, if not, a call to the vet.
Please spay your cat

Lucas is dead. I don't know what happened. All four were suckling when I went to sleep last night and this morning he's gone  :'(

My Issey used to hide her kittens !

I would come in from the school run and find a kitten missing and have to go and hunt for it

I think you need to keep her very queit, dont let anyone in to see the babies

Karen why dont you keep them all !!!
I kept all 4 of Isseys kittens and although they are 2yrs old now they still cuddle up to her.

Oh how adorable! That little tortie is just too sweet for her own good...  :Luv:

Looks like she was double mated with that litter - with a ginger tom for the tortie and for a black or black & white carrying blue for the others. Jasmine must carry the gene for blue too.

A beautiful litter and a wonderful mum. You must be so proud of her, Karen. :)

Liza, I think the vet (my head was a bit all over the show yesterday) said the black and white was male, and grey and white was female. Lucas is definitely a he, and the torti's obviously female.

I'm a bit concerned about her and them this afternoon. I dunno if she's confused, overwhelmed, or what but she's acting a bit strange. Keeps taking a baby with her when she comes out of the nest to eat, and once or twice she's taken one out and walked round the room with it. I don't understand why, my eldest daughter had a peep at them earlier cos she'd been dying to but I kept her away last night. She didn't touch the babies though. Would Jasmine feel threatened by that or something?
There are two more boxes in the room I've set up for her to take them to. She can't really take them anywhere else in the house at the moment. My bedroom is ideal cos there's a lock on the door and I know little people can't get near.

Also, I've noticed she hasn't been near the litter tray today, even though she's been eating and drinking okay.

Piccie updates for today....

While Miss Jasmine was eating, I feel bad about this one cos it was a bit too bright...

I've just noticed a teeny spot of blood on the white towel that's in there now. Jasmine's wound is fine, so I think it might have come from one of the babie's cords. Torti's isn't as healed as the others, would that be because the vet cut it rather than Jasmine?

Mark, your guess was way before mine, so Lucas it is.

So glad she had you looking after her, Karen, you were a good mum noticing that she had another kitten inside. Good work.

A nice little tortie, torties are almost as nice as black and white (I had to say that cos S and P are watching me type).

Four kitties.

Call me weird but when Karen announced 3, I thought maybe there is another one

My aunt is a sought-after medium in australia (although it's illegal to advertise in NSW) - maybe I've got a bit of it  (or more likely a lucky guess  :evillaugh: )
Her house is also a rescue - mainly cats but she has all kinds. She is lucky enough to have a huge house with loads of land.

Mammy and babies are doing great! She ate just before bed last night, and again this morning. She kept coming into bed with me during the night wanting cuddled, and then rushing straight back to the babies. She's so attentive to them. I love to watch her picking them up by the scruff of the neck.

I just noticed their first poos this morning! They're sooooo tiny!

They didn't spay her. I think he said it was because the baby inside was alive. I can't remember exactly now, but she's to go back in 10 days to have her stitches removed, and again in 8 weeks to be neutered.

I have been careful with the photo taking. I'll take another and post it later today.

Wow, that is an unusual thing to happen!! Did the vet spay her at the same time as the c-section? Do watch with the pic taking as they develop, you need to watch the flash with their eyes to avoid damage - best off taking any pics with no flash or it covered well for the first few weeks.
Please spay your cat

Even more congratulations on the arrival of Jasmine's fourth baby  ;D

How about "Lucas" - great name for a boy cat

Freaky   I was going to call Riley (my future grey and white boy) Lucas but decided to save it for a future human baby!

 Helen, I've never heard of a cat called Lucas, how weird

Thanks Karen - I am honoured  ;D

Mammy and her babies are doing brilliantly! I had an hour's sleep, and they're all set up in the bottom of the wardrobe so I can see them. Woke up to her trying to get into bed beside me. I'm a bit scared to pick her up but brought her in for a quick cuddle, 2 mins later one of the kits squeaked and she went to bound back over to them.

Everyone I've told that she had them in bed beside me seems shocked, but I'm really happy she did. To me that means she trusts me completely, and I'm dead happy about that  :Luv:

Lucas is a good name. If that's what you want then Lucas it is.

Meant to ask. I've still got them all laying on the sheet they were born on. Is it ok to change that or should I leave it a bit?

Thanks so much, everyone  ;D

The vet said she probably wouldn't eat tonight, but I just put out a little bit of fresh food and she went straight for it. I'm taking that as a good sign  ;D

I can't find Hippykitty's sweepstake guess, blind as a bat, I am! But yeah, whoever got 4 kittens, by about 3.30, when tortie was born, can name my grey boy.

I can't wait until I can get a good pic of the black and white one beside Jasmine, it's amazing how identical to her he is. I don't want to pester her with cameras tonight though. Will do tomorrow  ;)

Yeah, Tan, most definitely keeping one. Already I hate the thought of parting with any. My sister-in-law is desperate for one. They had one that died a couple of years ago, but my brother says nope. He hasn't seen these ickle faces yet though  :Luv:
