Sophies sore spot pics, advice please...

It has improved at the beginning but it seems to have slowed right down in the final stages now :-(

The collor comes offon a mornig while I feed and let her groom while I watch, luckily no marks from collor think she just got used to it,when I take it off she gets confused and goes and licks it!

Fuciderm is a steroid and antibiotic so is actually a rather strong treatment, long term usage can thin the skin. Is the area improving with it? I would phone the vets tomorrow and enquire. Your pics look like its healing well, perservere with the collar, a few more weeks is worth it. If she got at it now then all your hard work is undone.

Gooey had a reaction to a stronghold and got a sore patch, a few days fuciderm helped it start to heal but it has taken some weeks (6 or so) to actually grow some hair through and his was just a sore red patch. Poor chap looked a right mess, no ears and a burnt patch on his shoulder

Apart from the healing issue, it's horrible that she is stuck with the collar for so long. Hopefully its not chafing her.

He sed to come back in two weeks as it's only healing slowly and to give it more time and to keep using the gel on it and I got a new tube to use

If the vet said to use it for 5 days did you stop then? just curious as to why you don't go back for 14 days.   I know that oral antibiotics sometimes don't work until after you've finished them so I wonder whether this is the case with the cream - or did your vet tell you to continue using it?

I would ring the vet tomorrow and explain it is still not helping, and see if they feel she needs something else or to be seen before the 14th

Give your vet a call if you're unsure but I am sure they know what they're doing. A call to put your mind at ease is the best option though

Sorry, worded badly - the active ingredient, Fusidic acid is also used in eye creams although extra ingredients in skin creams would not be suitable for eyes. Also the concentration would be different. I would question the current treatment not being effective after 10 days though - I wouldn't stop using it until you have spoken to the vet though as stopping any antibiotic treatment before the infection has gone will allow it to come back. The treatment stops the bacteria multiplying. Another issue with stopping treatment is the bacteria can build up a resistance - people stopping antibiotics without completing the course is the main cause of MRSA.

Please be aware Fucithalmic is used in the eye, not Fuciderm.

well it says use for 5 days etc......its been 10 days and i dont go back till the 14th....should i keep using it as im sure i read some were using it prolonged period could cause some side effects etc...

No, it's really effective but not a harsh drug like some others. It is used in human treatments as well. I had an outer ear infection last year and it went in a few days. I googled it and there is evidence of bacteria building up a resistance to it with prolonged use. I'm not a vet but I don't think for one minute the vet has prescribed it to extract cash from you.

well if you have read my other posts Sophie has been having treatment for a sore spot from a reaction from the mircochip injection.

it has healed from what it was but it seems to be a veryyyyy sloowww process, its been about 2 weeks now, started about the size of a 2p to the size it is now.

im using fuciderm gel on it from the vets, anyone had history using this or is there better stuff out there?
