I have some guests in from South Africa.
She said that when her children were young, they used to bring home a lot of stray cats which she was fine with as she had a big house & garden. One day they bought home a few more and one of their exising cats hated them and couldn't get on. Eventually she told her son that he would have to give the unhappy cat to the spca. He said "fine mum but you know they will kill him!" she said they kept him although he was never really happy.
