[I've had permission to post this, thanks Tanya] :)

Cat behaviour day

Date: Saturday 8th September 2007
Venue: The Conference Room, Holiday Inn, Woking, Surrey (near M25, A3, M3, M4 and walking distance from Woking train station)
Time: 9.45 for a 10am start. Finish around 4 pm

A whole day dedicated to cats!
Francesca Riccomini and Inga MacKellar will take us through the science of cat behaviour and how we can apply this knowledge to solving and understanding common issues that can arise between people and cats. The day will provide an in-depth look into subjects such as how to introduce a new cat to a household and understanding house soiling.

Francesca Riccomini, an experienced veterinary behaviourist, is a member of the Association of Pet Behaviour Counsellors (APBC) and The Feline Advisory Bureau’s (FAB) Expert Behaviour Panel . She writes for several feline publications including Your Cat magazine and is co-author of the FAB’s ‘Cat friendly practice booklet’. Francesca’s enthusiasm for cats is contagious and her passionate and humorous approach to lecturing is not to be missed!

Inga Mackellar
is a Certified Clinical Animal Behaviourist and member of the APBC. Inga has frequently appeared on local, national and regional radio (BBC Radio 4, BBC Southern Counties) as well as on TV. She is co-author of ‘The APBC Book of Companion Animal Behaviour’, having contributed a chapter on ‘The Importance of Positive Reinforcement’. Inga is the behaviour expert for Cat World magazine for which she writes a monthly feature as well as contributing to the ‘Ask the Experts’ pages.

The workshop will be fascinating for cat owners, fellow animal behaviourists, people involved with rescue centres, veterinary personnel, and anyone with an interest in animal behaviour.

Tickets available now - £45 (£40 concessions). Only available in advance. Send cheque payable to ‘Learning About Animals’ to Suzanne Rogers, Learning About Animals, 14 Alexandra Road, Addlestone, Surrey, KT15 2PE.  Please enclose your contact details (e-mail ideally to save trees) for confirmation and directions.

Provisional programme

It’s obvious to everyone that cats are not small dogs. Yet so often they are treated as such and their behaviour is generally misunderstood to the detriment of their emotional and physical well being and their welfare.

The aims of the day are:

   To review our current understanding of feline behaviour and its impact on our relationships with the cats under our care, both personally and professionally.

   Examine what can go wrong, why, and how to resolve such difficulties.

   Most importantly of all look at how we can prevent problem behaviours developing in the first place.

The programme will include:

Morning session

Francesca – The origins and domestication of  Felis catus

The natural behaviour of our pet cats

Introducing a new cat to a household

Afternoon session

Inga – Feline aggresion

Francesca   – House soiling and indoor scent marking

There should be ample time for questions and the speakers will be available during beaks to chat with delegates, although evidently any advice will be general, and this is not an occasion during which individual behavioural issues can realistically be addressed.

If you have any questions email me as I'm not very adept at forums. Although think I will try adding a cat.... ;D
