Gem seems happy in herself and is being very indulged at the moment as I am hand feeding her

She is off to the vets tomorrow to see her vet Gemma along with Inca who is having a dental

I will keep Gem safe and warm but the prognosis is not good and am waiting till her Daddy is home at the end of the week and will make the decision as to our next step then

She will not suffer depsite my heart but I have to think of her quality of life and its not what I wanted when we rescued her and Brodie but she has had love and lots of cuddles since coming here and I won't let her

Its a hard decision but not one I will do on my own but Robin hasn't seen her for nearly a week and my hard hearted business man husband is about to be a wreck still he is home Thursday night for Gem cuddles and we will take it from there :(

i am sorry to hear it might be this, but I have heard of cats living 12monts with dry FIP,. there are 2 on the US forum I use who are on Interferon for this, and they are still fine months later, so fingers crossed Gem can have a long time too.

Well its looks like its dry FIP for this little lady

She is doing quite well all things considered and is eating well and using her litter tray, loves Jazz's heat pad and vet says its a waiting game if we can get through the next 2 weeks we will re test as sometimes the Toxoplasmosis gives a false reading so its pretty much a waiting game

Beijing the kitten and Brodie - her full brother are both negative and all the others seem hale and hearty and still want more privacy in the grit box.

Vet is of the opinion that tshe had this before coming to us but having the kittens may have truiggered it off.

She is in isolation but gets plenty of visits and parents are doing the hugging watching TV in the evening on a rota.

We will keep you advised but will follow the vets advice and Gems to and if its a matter of time we will cross that bridge when we come to it but she is still a fully paid up clan member and has a new following at the vet in fact she got a lot of  visitors at todays appointment. :Luv2:

Gem is still flopsy topsy brain sends signals and body does own thing but I saw her at 6pm for an hour and she ate some food and had some cat milk from her bottle and also lapped some to then Robin and I were both in at 11pm last night and she sat up on her own for a couple of mins but then did flopsy topsty but vets are encouraged she is looking brighter and does like our food beter than theirs!

I hopefully get to bring her home later this afternoon with her antibiotics and Rymadyl injections so she can start to recuperate and have full care here although this little lady has the vets and staff at her beck and call as she is such a loving poppet and they all spend time with her and thats nice

It is really a case of wait and see = results are due back next week for Corona virus and a couple of other things so its very much a waiting game and hopefully we can get her a bit less flopsy topsy but the front end eats the treat food fine, have already adapted a couple iof things for her so she can use a litter tray and not hurt herself whilst she is in isolation in fact bathroom is now looking like a padded cell but at least she will be home and I will be getting Gem gem head rubs and kisses which I have missed and she can see the others through the glass dooor - still got to figure out how to get heat pad in bathroom but will be stealing Jazz's microwave one for the forseable future so she is always warm

Will keep you all posted but thansk for your kind thoughts at this time

It is serious and she will be isolated in the guest wing bathrooms but it has a 12 pane glass door through to the bedrooms and bathrooms with a small hall so she will be able to see the others and they can see her but no risk of cross infection she has also been in her own pen so no probs there either

The others are all fine and showing no symptoms at all believe me when I day eagle eye here is stalking cats and grit boxes much to their horro and looks of some privacy here would be nice!

The vets are being really good but the more I keep reading the less I find that I like but remain positive and she is in the best place but home would be nicer

Am off to the vets with another food parcel later so the Clan Cats may get fed a bit earlier of later depending on Gem time

Re: Poorly Gem - Flopsy topsey - brain signals confused today
« Reply #17 on: September 24, 2008, 14:17:34 PM »
I was at the vets this morning and was advised depite them trying food Miss Gem wasn't having any of it so off I went with a food parcel - Applaws and Cat milk and she duly ate the Applaws and then got 2ozs of cat milk in a bottle whilst being cradled like a baby

Currently she is still on a drip and getting antibiotics and is a bit flopsy topsy to say the least but she is using her litter tray and vets are pleased she finally ate something and I will be going back this afternoon to do some more cuddles and feeding - vet took drip off wehilst I was there and she was connected back up when I left so we are hoping on the positive side but all articles I can find on Toxoplasmosis have a guarded recovery in big letters so who knows

The vets are still positive so are we as she is a young cat who may never be perfect but will hopefully be able to come home tomorrow and have been setting up the pink bathropom for her just got to put carpet around the bidet and toilet base so she can't hurt herself if she is still doing flopsy topsy and need to get Robins potting container sorted its has 3 high sides and a flat entrance so she doesnt have to tip the grit box to get in

Its early days yet and the results are expected back from Glasgow vets alter on this week so its all paws crossed here and extra cuddles for Brodie who is pacing looking for her and baby Beijing who is looking but being side tracked by Archie who we now think may be deaf from his football useage but hey ho just another normal baby in the Clan!

« Reply #7 on: September 23, 2008, 15:44:11 PM »
Well vets seem to think Gem has Toxoplasmosis so she will be staying at the vet tonight on a drip and getting the right antibiotics - all other tests so far are negative but Glasgowe vets is doing the other tests but she is FIV Negative so thats a plus and she has a high white count so will see her later on tonight for a visit and some nice rations

So some positive thoughts for our little tortie would be appreciated

I have spent the day scouring everything and manically cleaning but noone else has symptoms and Baby Beijing is doing full on kitten stuff with Archie so fingers crossed all is well but this may be why only one kitten survived unfortunately prognosis is variable so we have all paws crossed here
