I'm surprised the vets didn't give him some psyllium husk?

Whats that?? he was reluctant to give too strong a laxitive as he had the runs at the beginning of the week!  :shy:

It's a seed husk that expands and turns into a gel - it's good for diarrhoea and constipation as it bulks. When I first had stomach problems, I went to the local nutritionist who said it is the best thing and harsh things like Senna that purge are a no no and should never be taken. So top quality foods like Orijen have psyllium and probiotics in them.

Laxatives make the muscles contract as basically they irritate the bowel and the body is trying to get rid of them.

Well I took him back to the vet this morning just to be on the safe side and he has apernetly 'been' as his bowel is emptier. His little bum doesnt seem as sore and his tummy not as tender but still a little swollen so he has come home with some tablets that are the cat equivalent of Yakult!! :evillaugh:

He is all claws and teeth this morning and was a lot more feisty at the vets so its all looking good!

He is just polishing off a felix pouch as I speak :Luv2:

Well we have been back to the vets today - he has solid stools in his tummy - the probloem appears to be he has a sore botty and is reluctant to eject them! :-[

He screeched when he had to have his temperature taken and then he had his galnds done which he didnt like much either.

He's had an injection that should help him to go.................................so we shall see what happens and if no pooping action its back to the vet again tomorrow. :tired:

On the plus side he is his noraml naughty self and is eating well so I dont think he's feeling too rough.

Yep he is on chicken and fish - it did cross my ind that maybe he was producing less waste.

Update went to change the litter and guess what I found in the litter bin! Maybe he doesnt like the liners so we have doine away with those and will see what happened! I think he is traumatized after his impromptu bath! :-[

Antibiotics often cause diarrhoea, have you given him a restricted bland diet? If your feeding chicken he will be digesting more of it therefore making less poop....

I had this with one of mine recently.. I called the vet as luckily they are happy to talk over the phone and only get you to bring the animal in if you really need to. The vet said that it's very common and gave me some lactulose which did the trick! She did say though that if it didn't work the Rufus would have had to have had an enema as it can be dangerous if they too constipated.
Maybe speak to your vet and see if they can recommend something that will move things along. I know the lactulose worked a treat but wouldn't have done it without the vets guidence.
Hope this helps

Its a catch 22 as he was at the vets Monday as he had the runs! He had had some antibiotics just in case and I know in humans they can make you a bit clogged - is it the same wight cats does anyone know??

If he has not passed anything by this evening I would be at the vets - constipation gets harder to treat, the longer it goes on. In the mean time, cut out any dry food and concentrate of wet - it might help get things moving  ...
