What a lovely, mellow fellow he looks ! That's great that you took him in. I don't think moving is an excuse to leave a beloved cat behind, to be honest. I found Lucia in Italy, and she moved from there to Turkey, to Germany, and then England with me (more travelled than most of my family!) and it was extra work, but worth it. With our 4 we have now, they'd go with us wherever we moved to. No doubt about it at all.

I hope MeToo has many lovely times with you and your family.

an honest question - don't they test ears before removing them

This was my first thought too, seems a shame if it wasn't necessary... someone did mention he looks a little like a Scottish Fold though, which I liked, 'cos I think he may be a Scots barn owl, so he's now called 'Hoots man help me Bob'

Jasmine there is a diabetic food from Royal Canin that can help before they become diabetic - just a thought
Thanks Liz, I'll bear that in mind, but he doesn't have a big appetite and is only 3kg, so the vets says he can eat what he wants at the mo: breast of chicken, pilchards in tom sauce & thankfully some RC Renal biccies (doesn't like any of the wet).

I have noticed him coughing now and again though, so I fear the heart may give out before the kidneys or diabetes develops :scared:

MeToo would like to thank everyone for their encouragement though (and Martha says thank you Rosella too).

It was the same with Clapton - it pulled him back from the brink so I have a lot of faith in it - I'm sure it will do wonders for MeToo as well  :Luv2:

Aww, he really is lovely and looks very happy  :Luv:
Hope the Fortekor really works for him, it took a while to work for Dinah but her kidney levels were more or less back to normal after 3 months.

Thanks everyone.

The rescue lady couldn't understand how his owners' could leave him either, especially when he is such a sweet cat.  I have got a note of his likes and dislikes and a short history which they wrote, but nothing more.

Obviously, I do hope he's with us for a while, but he's drinking galllons of water & peeing for Britain - very reminiscent of Reg's last few weeks, so I'm not hopeful quite frankly.  The vet was pleasantly surprised with his blood results though:  his toxin levels have decreased on Fortekor, although we're having to keep an eye on his glucose levels which are increasing, but not to the stage where he is diabetic yet.  :scared:

Meetoo! looks so much like a cat we rehomed last year called Alex (not called Alfie) a long term stray around 10yrs old, he had cancer on his ears and turned out to have FIV... We found him an indoor home after his operation on his ears.. The last photo i had of him was a pure white fluff ball... with no ears.. I have the photos somewhere, think i emailed it to Christine Blip a while back..

Good for you taking him on.. he looks and sounds lovely!
Cannot save the world, but if everyone does something we can have a jolly good job trying too....

:Luv2: :Luv2: :Luv2: bless him .... I really never understand how people can leave a pet behind.  Admittedly I did leave one at my Mums house because she was happier at my mums and because I can still say she is mine but I would never just give up a cat after 15 years like that!  Bizarre.

MeToo looks lovely and I'm sure he will be very happy with you Jas.

One of the reasons we chose our house is because it is ideal for cats (and dogs!)
If we should ever move if the cats cant come , we aint going there!

Well done Jasmine for giving MeToo a loving home.  Hopefully CRF and heart murmur will not stop MeToo having much longer than weeks/months with you. Sorry you have had a rough time of it recently and hope things calm down again. Well done Martha for pulling thru.  22 is a very good age.  Will have to tell our Tom (19 at Christmas) he has a way to go yet.

How people can give up a lifelong pet due a move I don't know. Suppose there are circs when it can't be avoided but such situations are very rare. We certainly chose this house with our cats in mind

He's gorgeous  :Luv: it gets me every time that people will give up cats they've had for such a long time. There's just no way mine wouldn't come with me, they will be my first priority when I eventually buy my own house. I hope he has a long time with you being very spoilt  :Luv2:

His ears were apparently removed 5 years ago, but turned out not to be cancerous.

Makes him look a bit like a Scottish Fold doesnt it? Like Christine said, how COULD they have left him - glad he's got you know though  - I keep coming back to look at his pic  :Luv2:

Introducing... MeToo!
« Reply #1 on: June 22, 2008, 19:12:15 PM »
Please give a warm Purrs welcome to our latest feline addition:  MeToo.

MeToo is a 15 year old boy, mainly white, earless - and now with crf & a heart murmur.  He was left at Avon Cat Rescue by his family, who had had him from a kitten and were moving away. :(  We fell in love with him and thought he deserved to spend his last few weeks/months enjoying some home comforts, so he came home with us on the 3rd of June.

The 30 minute journey was rather traumatic, I won't go into graphic detail, but the poor old boy had to spend the first 24 hours confined to a kitten pen, before having a wash and scrub in the shower   He is fortunately very tolerant... and very loving, settling in well, having now met 3 of the others, but not Martha - she's in isolation after a touch of flu (not good at 22 :scared:, but has remarkably pulled through) - hence I've been a bit stressed and not posted before.

His ears were apparently removed 5 years ago, but turned out not to be cancerous.
