I too would like to stroke a sphynx, they're meant to be very lovable :)

HE does seem to have a bit on his ears Gill, I thought it odd too.
Thanks Sam, I am glad we have found this through the breed rescue though.

How strange cos it looked like the sphynx had fur on its ears??

My birman Ducha a blue point has naked ears, they have a lot more fur than when he first arrived but the actually ear part at top half is totally naked and the bottom half has half hearted fluff now. The bottom near the head actually has fur now   He has great ear tuffs though!

Well, turns out they haven't been wormed due to being indoor only, so that might explain something!! i am sure that the Sphynx should have better colouring thoug, the blues I keep finding do, but can't find a site with a red on. Sam, the Devons on that link are really nice, and do have much better fur than ours.

I agree with Lynn ... Sphynx looks VERY healthy to me (here's some others to compare him with http://www.photocat.co.uk/galleries/cats/cats-breeds/sphynx/index.html )  but I think Rex should have more fur and like Lynn says once you start stroking one you can't stop ... they are sort of like a velvety chenille.

I thought that Lynn - have to say, I enjoyed stroking the Rex nevertheless. I am not sure how good quality the Sphynx is, as apart from his face, you cant' tell his colourings, yet one I saw on their website was very obvious (a gorgeous shade of blue0.

Lovely pics desley & i am glad you enjoyed your experience of meeting 2 rex breeds  :Luv:

The devon should have alot more hair than that but rex's can go through hair loss or be very sparse, however it may very well grow back in, age & hormones also often affect the rex hair and they can often settle following neutering etc.

That syphnx by the way is bloomin gorgeous and looks to be a very healthy specimen  :)

If you can you must try and stroke a fully furred devon, once you start you just cant stop as the feeling is so luxurious and addictive.

Very interesting!! Weird feeling though.
I have to say, the people from the Sphnx rescue are wonderful - I spoke to a breeder yesterday who was going to speak to the person in charge of the rescue side at the AGM, took my name and number, and I got an e-mail from them today - dont know how they got my e-mail address, as it isn't the one on CC. We are going to see if they can help on the rehoming, as we are concerned that if we advertise these two, we might get a lot of people offering a home for the novelty factor.

Yep, they are going togetherr. I have been in touch with both rescues - both have meetings today, so I have to ring back tonight to speak to the Devon Rex rescue, she is only in Sheffield. The Sphynx rescue says she is wonderful and has a waiting list, so it would be nice if we could work together with these two, as they know what they need better than us. I actually spoke to a Rex breeder, she was really lovely and sounds like a responsible breeder, and was very helpful - apparently she is well known in Rex's.
I can't understand how they knew hte Sphynx was a red and white tabby - his face is hte only obvious bit

ooooooh how gorgeous are they.  I would LOVE a rex ... they are so loving and people orientated but now I've got Rossi I couldn't possibly consider another furbabe  :(

Do these two have to go together Des they look like they are a pair  .... I'm sure the Rex / Sphynx resuces would be able to assist you with these two special babies.  :Luv2: :Luv2: :Luv2:

The degree of curl does vary between individuals - it can vary from little more than a slight kink in the fur to definitely curly.

Very weird Gill - i read it was like stroking a peach, but I didn't think that, although the REx was lovely to stroke. I am not into orientals though - the rescue lady has an Havana Brown, so saw 3 different examples today - much prefer the HAvana.
Susanne - he just seemed to have thin fur all over, there was only near his tail you could see the full curly effect.

I like my cats furry but must admit that I love the soft, velvety feel of Sphynxes.  Did the rex have very thin fur around the neck?  Some of them do, esp if they are young cats.

Met a Devon Rex and Sphynx today

We had two come into our care this week, so despite only being at the rescue last week, I went back over today, as I was curious. The Rex is a Chocolate Smoke I think, and the Sphynx is a Red and White tabby (although how you know they are tabby's I don't know). Very interesting experience, and I did prefer the Rex, although I did think they had more fur than this one has. The Sphynx was a unique experience, they really are weird to touch - and so incredibly warm!! I will post pics tomorrow, and I will be contacting breed rescues to see if they have any advice tomorrow - they do have sensitive tums.
