Any update on Mitzy?

Hi,
Thankyou all for your advice, it has helped me a lot, as yes we did get Mitzy out for a while, and yes she did jump up on the settee :'(
Also she is taking Metacam, which is a medication for soft tissue damage.
The full story of Mitzy.
Late one night when in bed, i heard a loud crash from downstairs, l rushed down to find a chair overturned, l knew that one of our cats had caused it.
Next morning Mitzy was limping, l told myhusband John to take her to the vets, their prognosis was that she had a rare form of Knee deformity that usually only small dogs had, that she would need an operation that would cost, wait for it £650.00. and in the meanwhile put her on metacam.
I was so upset they had given this diagnosis without even giving her an x-ray, as l knew she had an accident with the chair, so  we took her to another vets for a second opinion, and asked them to give her an e-xray which cost £120.. They told us the result she had a fractured pelvis, thank god. Do not get me wrong l was so pleased we had a right diagnosis .
What would have happened if they had done the operation fora deformity, your guess is as good as mine .
Well we are now not letting her outof the cage :( and yes she seems to have settled down more today, she seems more calm.

So pleasedl l found this site.

 :thanks:xxx

We have cats in most of the time with the same problem, although we do feel sorry for them we know that if we let them out we would be doing the little ones no favours and delay the healing process.

Forgot to ask, have you got pain meds for her ?

If not maybe you should discuss this with the vet.

Hope she starts to feel better soon

Sorry to hear about Mitzy but you have to be firm I'm afraid and keep her in the cage.  If she starts walking round, any healing may be for nothing and you'll be back to square one with her.  I'm pretty sure when I had Miska, I did let him have a little exercise after a couple of weeks but this was with the say so of the vets, and obviously no jumping onto furniture or anything.  With the toileting, has she been twice for a wee or the other?  If it's the other, I wouldn't worry but if it's a wee, is she drinking enough fluids?  It may also be that she still in pain and this may put her off going so I would have a chat to your vets and see what they think.  Try to make the cage as comfy as possible for her, maybe put in a few of her favourite toys, or try her with some new ones.  I know 6 weeks seems like a long time at the moment but she will settle.  I've had one in with a broken pelvis and also one with a broken leg, both were fine when caged after a few days.  Try giving her lots of fusses whilst she's in there and give her her favourite foods and I'm sure the 6 weeks will be up in no time

:welcome: to Purrs and sorry to hear about Mitzy.

We have two people at present with cats with badly broken legs who also need 6 weeks cage rest so their threads may help you.

fractured pelvis.
« Reply #1 on: April 14, 2008, 23:21:05 PM »
Hello I am new on this site,
My cat Mitzy has a fractured pelvis, the advice from the vet is to keep her caged for six weeks, we are " FINDING THIS VERY HARD". Has anyone else had this problem, as it is breaking my heart  when she keeps crying to come out of the cage, she has only been in it for four day's so far.
Also the vet said  she was lucky as cats with a broken pelvis do not get the sense to go to the toilet, if they do not go, it builds up as poison in their body, she has gone twice in four  days, so we are really worried.
HELP.
