Thanks! I think you are right, it's 'I've had enough' although sometimes he can be persuaded to eat a little more. Today's been more difficult because with this ahem "nice sunny bank holiday weather" his cold's kicked in again :(   they are both snoring in a folded up duvet. very tempting idea.

thanks! many of you know the knot in your stomach when you approach with a plate of food to see if or just how much gets eaten! I've given up on the pouches now, he's pouch phobic since the catsitter (must have tried to force him to eat I think);  just the chicken k/d's going down - no more spoons, off a hand-held plate but still 'mobile meals' taking 25 mins on a good day for a small plate. If Hills change their minced chicken food again, I will explode (or they might  :censored:). I don't know how long it will last but am hugely enjoying the better days and am hoping that warmer weather brings fewer cold symptoms.
Btw anyone have any idea why Swampy paws frantically at his bedding when he's had enough to eat or wants a 'time out' from my holding his plate? It's a new thing and a bit odd. If I comfort him, he stops.

so far (and I get superstitious typing this) a good couple of days, a few rather senior moments aside. This morning however he did a weird disciplining rather dodgy number on Max. If I can work out - IF - how to post my video clip* of it I'll do so (don't hold your breath folks, it's a mac too so even more ???? for me). I know I should take it day by day, but am so hoping that warmer weather will help his cold = his health in general. Right now though, I enjoy the good days with him - even if Max doesn't! They are curled up together so can't be too bad.
* 50 secs AVI file. too big? No way will I work out how to edit it.

after a mega puke on the carpet this morning, caused probably by his cold, he's eaten reasonably again and is now happily installed on the windowsill lying on a cushion (only place we get sun from spring to autumn is the windowsills as we're under the roof  :-[). The new young mum feral pigeon just below him is getting a terrible crick in her neck from watching him for hours on end to protect her egg, it's quite funny as Swampy can't really even see her out there and is ignoring her but she's very alarmed! I know we are supposed to loathe pigeons but she's young and quite sweet, v diligent pigeon-mum (until she gets big and monstrous and poos on the car that is)

happy and sunny weekend to all furbabes, poorly and not poorly. Enjoy it while it lasts!!

  to you all for the positive vibes. I'm sure they are helping. He got a new can opened tonight as the old one looked manky (opened this morning but still, lots of hard little bits left) and he ate quite well tonight, about 1/6th can. I'm squirreling away his sardines in tomato sauce stash. He won't know what it is (never even had fish) but it stinks I suppose.
Ankle's much improved, thanks for asking!
let's hope we all have a good weekend and the sun shines!

Re: pilchard's in tomato sauce....unless there is a reason healthwise for not having it (although I doubt this very much with the vet giving you this) then there is no need to remove the sauce as my cats eat that also!  ;)

Yes, definitely with the sauce - I think thats what attracts cats more than the sardines! If I have a meal with a tomatoey sauce, they are all very eager to clean the plate for me  :evillaugh:

Hope Swampy keeps eating its horrible when they don't have an appetite isnt it?

He's eaten a 1/4 can this morning, thanks for all the good vibes. I think maybe he was helped by Max polishing off his food when I turned my back, as he then went to sit on a chair and ate another tablespoonful! He now won't really eat his old diet of renal pouches and i/d. Only k/d with tiny bits of warm water. As that's unlikely to last, I've got to find something he finds irresistible.
Vet has given me sardines in tomato sauce for if he stops eating k/d or anything. I suppose I would extract the sardines and don't give him any tomato sauce? It's so difficult isn't it. He used to adore fresh chicken, take my hand off for it, now won't even touch a morsel.

Were you really up at 3am Bazsmum?  worse than me!

Swampy did ok yesterday. Today's difficult again. Breakfast was taken in several locations and sloooowly - 45 mins with several breaks to eat a small plate, not even 1/4 can. He's a bit agitated and pawing at his bed again.
yesterday he found the front door open and I found him investigating my downstair's neighbour's stone lizard ornament thing that they leave on the landing. I carried him up and he megapurred. Most exciting thing that's happened to him for ages.
I hope he feels better later but thanks for asking, at least something's going down the hatch, even if not enough. What's difficult is that he doesn't have a "favourite food".

Trying to feed him on and off throughout the flat (2 diff foods) from 7.30 to 9.15 and he's eaten under 1/4 can of k/d. He was sick early this morning and his cold is really bad today.
Is there anything for nausea that would work as I'm sure when he has this bad post nasal drip he swallows so much muck and that is why he is off his food. I've tried SEB but it didn't work well and he hated the huge capsule too (can't put it in his food). Pepcid doesn't seem to help his appetite.

he ate a little k/d this morning. I've not really fed it as an entire diet so am not sure how much he would have to eat to maintain his weight or a reasonable weight. Anyhow he ate quite a bit of a can (less the stone like hard bits: why do they put those in?  >:() yesterday, but he refused to eat while a friend was here for lunch. So lots of tlc, cuddles and I will try to be positive (ahem). At least I'll be home all day as fell over (nothing to do with wine at lunch) on an uneven pavement, turned my ankle and can't get down the 55 stairs today (Swampy may enjoy his mum hobbling around using a golf umbrella as a stick  ). His cold's awful though so maybe it was that combined with psychological issues. I know care for the elderly's a day to day thing. Thanks for all the messages of support and positive vibes  it really helps.

thanks yes, that's right. I modified the first post in the thread but it only changed it on that post. Although am quite tired and inept!

Swampy ate a little k/d chicken minced nosh (a 1/4 can in 2 meals - off a plate!!!!!)  this morning. He won't touch his usual food so he's getting k/d instead. His coat looks shiny again too. I hope it's the antibiotics and vitamins kicking in and not a delayed 1 day reaction to the appetite pill, as the vet said that's a one day dose. (worry, worry of course). He was really helped by doing a mega phlegm whoops all over the rug this morning. His cold is a massive and untreatable problem. He can't have antibiotics all the time, but we may have to do a vit B injection weekly.
So far today there's not been any senior behaviour either, so please keep on sending all those good vibes his way  and from the Swampcat   (World's Most Kissed Furbabe).
Yes I feel very guilty about going away even though it wasn't a holiday. The first catsitter seemed to get on fine, the replacement not good (or it may be coincidence & he was ill).
