Theres a basket called nurses best friend that does the same job mark. You slide the base out and drop over agitated cat, then slide base back in, the vet gets a nicely wound up beast

If cats don't like being picked up, you could put the basket over them - except there would need to be some card or something for when you tip it back over

I know this seems cruel but grab them when they are sleeping and they don't have time to react

I think top loaders only good if you can pick the cat up.

I have to trap Sasa and try and get her to run throught the door............its a big cage so all one side opens. The prob then is to shut it before she runs out again..........sigh

That's a brill idea Mark. Problem for me is that Bonnie doesn't like being picked up and I'm not forceful enough (too soft!) to grab her and pop her in - she always leaps out of my hands. I have toput it on the settee and then when she jumps up I have to push her in backwards!! Think I'm gonna invest in a top loader though as I now have to take her to vet every month for an injection to stop the rash coming back and I could put that on it's side and push her in and she has a better view of everything and might not meow as much in the car when I take her to the vet.

I see Gillian has a "top loader" - they are so much easier to get a cat into

. Another advantage of wire carriers.

When I used the other kind, I always turned it on it's side so the opening was at the top and put them in tail first.

I always have the cat carrier in the living room, but it doesn't make it any easier to get them into it when it's time for the V.E.T.

No, she's not a show cat - even if she was 'showable' - she would absolutely HATE it, that I do know LOL! I always thought I'd like a show cat, but they have really got to have the right temperament for it, some of them absolutely lap up all the attention at shows, (like Witty's Pearl for instance) but I've seen others who are scared half to death and I think its wrong to continue showing cats like that, no matter how beautiful they are.

Gillian I do hope you have better luck than me - I have to take Bonnie every month now for an injection so that the rash doesn't come back and I left her cat carrier in the room for over a week and I still had to go running around the house for her yesterday. Mind you I was an awful mum really cos when it was time to go she was sat on the sheepskin rug in front of the radiator in my bedroom - now if the choice was yours...... Vet or rug in front of radiator!!

I felt that guilty I spent £10 on a new furry rug for her and some more toys.

They should be able to glue midline too, after all regardless of where the incision is the glue only ever holds the skin together, they always also have a layer muscle sutures and then subcutaneous sutures , the glue never holds any internals in place

ps unless you intend showing gillian i'd go for flank tbh.

Yes, my Lucy had the flank incision too, but she's a cream point - the fur on the paler colourpoints (reds, creams, lilacs, lilac creams) doesnt tend to grow back that much darker when shaved - but Gwynnie's a seal tabby point and the fur will grow back as a dark brown patch, sometimes with the next moult the fur will return to normal colour - but sometimes it doesnt. Not that it matters really as she's not a show cat, soooo......can't decide now!

Not sure they would glue a midline, theres more that needs holding together, worth asking about it tho as it saves having a collar.
If you are just choosing for hair change (i thought the next moult put it back to normal

) then id opt for a flank incision, as its quicker to heal and less intrusive

Rascal didn't as she was a good girl and didn't bite her stitches. The vet gave me one home with her just incase though

Yes, one of those big lampshades, so if she had glue not only would she not need one but also wouldnt have to go back to have them out .

I dont know if they ask to see them again just to cjeck they ok.

So the cat basket has been brought into the lounge to let Gwynnie get used to its presence - she ran and hid when I first brought it into the room

- I think somehow she thinks she's safe in her 'flower' box - and Joe has taken up residence in the basket LOL!
