Thanks Ela! Diane always goes out of her way to thank me for the work I do even though I don't think it's enough and wish I could do more. I am not about to defect either so don't worry, I just thought I'd drop by and meet Angie while I was in Coventry.

I know that Diane and Joyce always take my ideas on board but it's people above them who have the final say in these matters.

Not true in this case, I know for a fact that Corporal Smokey  is valued by Joyce and Diane

We use Paypal, and it goes into a separate account and when it gets to a certain amount, a cheque is wrote, so if you have someone you can trust, it can work. And I think you can get them to tick for Giftaid too.

with charity choice the money is transferred straight into a bank account - presumably you have one of these for your branch?
Admittedly you can't use it on ebay, though I am sure if you were trading and asked people to pay for winning lots via charity choice (as its free to you and you may even be able to reclaim tax on the 'donation' ) they may be quite happy to use it if asked.

  Thanks Corporal!

I am the youngest in my branch too, I actually think that they do appriciate my input but it's sometimes hard to change things that have been in place for ages!

The treasurer of the branch and I will keep plugging away at it!

All clubs are like that - they are always banging on about getting new blood but when new blood turns up they treat them like rubbish. I was once INVITED to join an historical society, but when I got there they all cut me out of any activity and any suggestions I made were rubbished and even making a pot of tea was a sin, because that was Marj's job (you get my drift). I guess it takes a stronger spirit than mine to hang around long enough for them to start treating you like one of them ... >:(

Actually that seems to make some sort of sense, thanks! At least now I can see their point (kind of). Like you say though they need to bring themselves up to date. I'll keep on from my end. If us computer-types keep on at the big cheeses we can hopefully get them to update their methods.

I remember when I joined they kept saying how great it is to have young input and that's what they're lacking but they don't seem to want to budge.

Good luck Adel CP and I'll see you in the 21st Century

Hey! I work for Leeds CP and have been investigating this for our branch too (with mixed results!) Bascially it's a matter that the money for the branch is kept in a central bank account so if another account is opened it needs to make sure that donations go to each branch, otherwise someone might donate to us, it go into the central account and then it disappears into the central headquarters funds rather than our own.

The only thing that I could think of was to have someone open an account who is trustworthy and have money donated into their account and then them transfer it to the branch.

To be honest I don't really understand it all and CP really need to sort it out beacuse I do think it hinders our donation process! York CP have Paypal but they're a re-homing centre, rather than rescue and they get all their funds through the main account anyway...

Hope that (vaguely) helps!

well you know what they say folks.... you can lead a horse to water... but you can't make it drink!

My own opinion would be that if they don't want the help then they obviously don't need it badly enough and would take my efforts elsewhere.   But then that's me! ;)

I am afraid this sounds one of those branches that seeems to have issues, like so many others who do not seem interested in newbies helping them  :(

As you know Purrs uses paypal accounts for the shop and for fund raising and the auction money went to Lesleys Paypal account and I am sure that is they managed to get as much in donations as we got in auction they would not be holding their noses

They have to understand its about the easiest method for donaters to use, not some kind of reverse snobbery  :shify: :shify: maybe they have so much money they dont need donations!

I dont like recipes but wouldnt mind a bag of brownies

Just another thought and dont know if it will work on their website but what if they had some small things to sell , like catnip or toys, then paypal would be a way of getting the money in fast.

Thanks Sarah, I'm going to try and put a case forward to the people upstairs and see what I can do. Still can't fathom a single reason not to do it apart from identity fraud, and if that's their issue they could just get a subsidiary account for PayPal only.

CS - if you are a registered charity you can ask for Paypal to reduce the fees paid for each payment received.  I can't remember by how much but its better than nothing.

I run our PayPal account and haven't had any problems whatsoever really and the benefits outweigh the charges to be honest.

I dont understand why they wont have a paypal account, whats there reasoning?

I dont like nochex and their  rules and stuff I found very confusing when I was thinking of using them to sell.

It costs nothing to open a pay[pal account and yes there is commision but its relatively small. Only snag I found was that if you wanted to move under £50 there is another charge but again I think its quite small.

I would think anything that would help people to donate should be good and paypal is easy and so many have accounts now.

I totally agree Gill it just don't make sense! I'd rather pay commision than have raised no money. Their reasoning was what I put below about success being sporadic. To me that means some found it good, some had no joy. Again, surely it's best to try. Once again it seems that I'm being hampered by red tape when all I want to do is get some much needed funds for the shelter!

I know it's not the boss lady's fault, she's never really dealt with this stuff, it seems to be way up the chain somewhere.

Well I'll keep plodding on. I'll be baking again soon. Mothers' Day brownies this time. If anyone wants recipes and ideas, PM me. I raised £90 baking over Christmas!

Will do thanks Sam. Not sure if it'll get anywhere. Verdict was that some branches have tried it and success had been "sporadic" and it's therefore a non-starter.

IMHO if it raises one lowly pound it's worthwhile but hey ho!

If they don't want paypal it might be worth investigating www.nochex.com an alternative to Paypal and Cheaper by all accounts.

I've been nagging our Branch to get a PayPal account but it seems that it's not too viable an option. Are there any CP branches on here that have one?

I'm still aiming to revamp our website and thought it would be a quick and simple way for people to donate money but apparently it's not so easy.

Ela, if you happen to read this I know you've spoken to Diane, thanks for your help. I know your website is really good and up to date and I'd like our branch to keep up!

Just wondered if anyone else has had joy/trouble with it.
